We’ve Got Our Sheet Together!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
36-year-old “Passion of the Christ” actor Jim Caviezel, who is a devout Catholic, is on the verge of adopting a 3-year-old Chinese boy named ‘Bo’ after he & his wife spent years praying for a family to no avail . . . SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors & Music Publishers of Canada) is lobbying to collect 10% of the revenue from ringtones and 15% from ringbacks (the sound a caller hears while waiting for someone to answer their phone) in order to pay fees to Canadian composers . . .  “Batman Begins” star Christian Bale spent 5 months in intensive training for the role, bulking up with 20 lbs of muscle & learning the Keysi martial arts fighting style (in which you apparently never smile) . . . Pamela Anderson has reportedly invested in a new state-of-the-art security system after a female ‘fan’ broke into her Malibu CA home and headed straight for the underwear drawer where a note was left saying, “I’m not a lesbian, I just want to touch you” (phew, creepy!) . . . LAST MONTH Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne put their Beverly Hills home up for sale (at circa $12 million), now they’ve listed their oceanfront Malibu CA house for lease (can you afford $75,000 rent – per month?) . . . And “Radar” magazine is reporting that the real reason Scarlett Johansson dumped out of “Mission: Impossible 3″ wasn’t ‘scheduling conflicts’ as reported but the fact that Tom Cruise dragged her to a Scientology center where he spent 2 hours proselytizing about his beliefs (seems Scarlett Johansson flunked her test … but Katie Holmes passed).

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Destiny’s Child – They’ve been added to the lineup for the “Live 8″ concert in Philadelphia on JULY 2nd, along with Linkin Park.
• Dwight Yoakam – TODAY he’s on ABC-TV’s daytime talk show “The View”.
• 50 Cent – New rapper Michael Francis claims to be his cousin and that they grew up in the same house. Francis is using the name ‘25′ (pronounced ‘two-five’) on his debut album, even though Fiddy says he never heard of the kid.
• Natalie Imbruglia – She’s set to star in the lead role of the new movie “Elise”, about a woman troubled by the disappearance of her sister 20 years earlier. It’s set to shoot soon in Australia.
• Radiohead – “Spin” magazine has selected their “OK Computer” as the top album of the past 20 years.
• U2 – Bono is developing a new movie titled “A Version of Las Vegas”, about an Irish musician who emigrates to the US to work with a show band in Las Vegas.

THE MOVIE MALADY:
According to movie industry estimates, the number of theater patrons in the US & Canada is down 9% from LAST YEAR, and total revenues are down for the 17th-straight week, a slump unmatched since 1985. So what’s gone wrong? Highlights of a new AP-AOL News poll of 1,000 adults conducted by Ipsos …
• 82% have a DVD player at home; 77% a VCR.
• 73% prefer to stay home and watch a movie rather than go to a theater.
• 69% think movie stars are poor role models.
• 47% say movies are getting worse.
• 33% have ordered a pay-per-view movie at home.
• 27% prefer comedies, well ahead of dramas & action-adventures.
• 25% have not been to a movie theater in the past year.
• 22% do prefer to watch movies in a theater, but they’re more likely to be young adults, single people and those with college degrees.

IN LOVE OR INSANE?
New University of Pennsylvania research using brain-scans has discovered that the brain activity of people who are falling in love is nearly identical to those suffering from mental illnesses such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. And Dr Andrew Newberg has also found that the exact same areas of the brain are stimulated by falling in love as by addictions to food or drugs. He concludes that love is ‘life’s greatest addiction’, noting that lovers will commit suicide when dumped, but drug addicts rarely kill themselves if they can’t get drugs. (That’s ‘cause drugs don’t spread vicious rumors about your ‘abilities’.)

‘PODDIES’ ARE LONERS:
Apple sold 5.3 million iPods in just the first 3 months of 2005. So what’s the attraction? Over the last 18 months, British sociologist Michael Bull (nicknamed ‘Professor iPod’) has interviewed more than 1,000 iPod users from around-the-world. His findings will be published NEXT SPRING in a book on the iPod’s cultural impact. Among his findings …
• iPod users love being able to shut out the world’s distractions.
• They hate cellphones because they prefer not to be interrupted.
• They enjoy living their lives with a personalized soundtrack for their ears only.
• They wish to define the terms and conditions under which they are disturbed.
• iPods are changing the workplace as more and more workers spend the day connected to their own little world.

REAL-LIFE HIDDEN DA VINCI:
The only non-fictional character in Dan Brown’s popular bestseller “The Da Vinci Code” is  Maurizio Seracini, an internationally-recognized expert in hi-tech art analysis. Now, in a case of life imitating art, Seracini has found a hollow space behind a palazzo’s murals in Florence, Italy and believes he may have discovered a Da Vinci masterpiece not seen since 1563. It’s believed to be a long-lost fresco called “Battle of Angiers” that was begun in 1505, and considered by many art historians to be Leonardo’s most important – and largest – masterpiece. However, even if it is the Da Vinci fresco hidden behind a wall, it may have deteriorated beyond repair. (You know what this means? The movie sequel is already in development.)

RETRO-TECH IS HOT:
First Hulger Corp brought us old-school telephone handsets that can be plugged into modern cellphones, now comes an old-fashioned typewriter that can be attached to a computer. The technology was created by a guy whose wife got repetitive stress syndrome in her hands from typing on a standard computer keyboard. (What’s next? The Gutenberg Press wikipedia?)

BIG-BRAINERS:
The conventional thinking that bigger brains are smarter has finally been proven. A new study by Virginia Commonwealth University researchers reveals that it is in fact true – people with bigger brains are smarter than their smaller-brained counterparts. (In that case, giant-headed actors Tobey Maguire, John Travolta and Elijah Wood must be geniuses!)

WHY CAN’T THEY DO CROSSWORD PUZZLES?
Authorities in Washington State have discovered that shredding documents in order to protect yourself against identity theft may no longer be good enough. It turns out that the growing population of speed freaks includes some who are using their excess energy to reassemble papers which have passed through a shredder. A law enforcement official says the thing that is unique to identity theft is that it requires an almost absurd amount of hours and focus, which methamphetamine users seem to have in abundance. (Time to bring out the blowtorch!)

BS FREAK SHOW:
• A puppy with 6 legs and 2 penises has been found sleeping outside the Kwang Sung Temple in Pandamaran, Malaysia. Devotees are treating the freak find as a good omen. (Boy, is this pooch ever gonna be confused when he sees a hydrant!)
• A newborn kitten in Glide OR has 2 complete faces, including 2 mouths, 2 tongues, 2 noses and 4 eyes. It’s cleverly been named ‘Gemini’. (What, you have no reaction to this? What’s the matter … cat got your tongues?)
• A rare half-male/half-female Blue Crab has been captured in the lower Chesapeake Bay off Maryland. Normally, the male Blue Crab has sky-blue claws, while the tips of the female’s claws turn bright red as they age. This odd specimen has 1 red claw and 1 blue one. Scientists say it’s an extremely rare occurrence of a ‘bilateral gynandromorph’. (In simpler terms … it’s AC/DC.)

BS AMAZING FACT:
The human eye blinks an average of 4,200,000 times a year.

AND WE QUOTE:
“Why is there a green stripe painted on the sides of police cars? To help policemen find a door handle. And why does it take policemen so long to step out of a police car after it stops? Because there is no green stripe painted on the inside.”  – The winning ‘cop joke’ in a contest sponsored by the Vilnius, Lithuania police department. (AP)
