BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Today costumes from 1965 movie classic “The Sound of Music” are expected to fetch over $850,000 at a Nate D Sanders auction in Los Angeles CA. 7 items from the Oscar-winning musical, including 3 dresses, 2 sets of lederhosen, a sweater, and shorts, are the main attraction. In the movie, Julie Andrews’ character fashions the outfits for the von Trapp family children using old drapes. The outfits are, in fact, made of actual curtain fabric. Costume designer Dorothy Jeakins was nominated for her efforts at the 1966 Oscars.

★ Hulu is stepping up its game in the digital video realm by paying almost $1 million per episode to screen all 9 seasons of classic TV sitcom “Seinfeld” (1989-98). The deal translates into a $180-million windfall to be split between Sony TV, Castle Rock Entertainment, and the show’s producers Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. The new deal marks the first time the show will be available in its entirety in the binge-watching era. The move is said to be a direct response to Netflix’s purchase of the rights to classic sitcom “Friends”.

★ And Justin Bieber will carry Floyd Mayweather’s championship belts into the ring before his fight against Manny Pacquiao on Saturday. The undefeated boxing champ has reportedly asked the pop star to lead his entourage into the ring ahead of the reported $250-million showdown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. 38-year-old Mayweather first became friends with 21-year-old Bieber because his 14-year-old daughter Iyanna is a huge fan. Justin has been at Mayweather’s side for a number of fights and public appearances.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Black Sabbath – 66-year-old rocker Ozzy Osbourne has confirmed the legendary heavy metal group will bring its career, spanning 40-plus years, to an end next year with a final album and a farewell tour.
• Ciara – She’s confirmed she’s in a relationship with NFL QB Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks. Earlier this week the twosome attended a state dinner at the White House in Washington DC. They were previously seen together at a Seattle Mariners baseball game.
• Elton John – A pair of his iconic sunglasses has been recovered after being stolen from the Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum in Memphis TN last week. The heart-shaped spectacles were on loan from a private collector. Police tracked the thief using fingerprints, and recovered the glasses in Mississippi. They were back on display Wednesday.
• Iggy Azalea – She’s the new face (and body) of Australia’s Bonds Underwear, joining model Miranda Kerr for the firm’s 100th anniversary ad campaign. Iggy’s modeling portfolio also includes Forever 21, and top footwear brand Steve Madden.
• Joni Mitchell – A message posted on her official website: “Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital … but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected.” Seems TMZ’s report was wrong.
• Nelly – He’s currently working on a country-based EP. The “Hot in Herre” hitmaker, who collaborated with Tim MCGraw on 2004’s “Over and Over”, is looking to team up with more country artists for his new project.
• One Direction – Liam Payne tells Britain’s Capital FM the group is moving away from its trademark pop sound on their upcoming 5th album, and suggests the new tracks more reflect the sound of defunct rock group Oasis. As if.
• Sam Smith – He’s had to cancel his Australian tour due to a hemorrhage on his vocal cords. Doctors in Sydney have told him he needs to rest until his vocal chords have fully healed. Dates in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth will be rescheduled for this December.
• Tyler Farr – He has a hit on his hands with “A Guy Walks Into a Bar”, which appears on his 2nd album, “Suffer in Peace”. He had a few hits on his frenetic 2013 debut, “Redneck Crazy”, but the new release is more subdued.
• Zac Brown Band – Their new 4th studio album, “Jekyl + Hyde”, includes guests vocals by Sara Bareilles and Chris Cornell of Soundgarden.
COMING ATTRACTIONS:
A BS selection of movies in the making …
• “Aloha” – 40-year-old Bradley Cooper & 36-year-old Rachel McAdams, who co-starred in “Wedding Crashers”, are reunited in Cameron Crowe’s new movie about a military contractor who screws up a deal, forcing him to return to Hawaii. The cast also includes Alec Baldwin, Bill Murray, Emma Stone, Jay Baruchel, and John Krasinski. The film opens May 29th.
• “Don’t Look Now” – This classic 1973 supernatural thriller is getting the remake treatment. The original starred Donald Sutherland & Julie Christie as a couple grieving the death of their daughter. The movie was based on a short story by Daphne du Maurier, the author behind “The Birds” and “Rebecca”, which were also adapted to the screen. No cast announced as yet.
• “Independence Day 2” – Maika Monroe (“The Bling Ring”) has nabbed the female lead in this high-profile sequel. Roland Emmerich is directing the project, which has a mix of old and new faces: Liam Hemsworth, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Jessie Usher are joining the cast, while Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Judd Hirsch are reprising their roles from the 1994 original.
• “Six Billion Dollar Man” – Peter Berg (“Battleship”) is set to direct this updated version of the “Six Million Dollar Man” TV series (1974-78), which starred Lee Majors. In the new version, Mark Wahlberg plays a military officer who becomes half-human/half-machine following a near-death accident. The movie is due in theaters sometime in 2016.
EAR PHONES:
Yahoo is testing an ear-based smartphone identification system that verifies users based on … the shape of their ears. It would be an alternative to unlocking a phone with a password or fingerprint. Fingerprint scanners are increasingly popular but very expensive. Yahoo is looking to use the phone’s touchscreen as an image sensor, which would be far cheaper. As well as ears, it’s also looking to use fists or even the way people grip their smartphone as forms of biometric authentication. The system, developed at Yahoo Labs, is dubbed ‘Bodyprint’. It’s already undergone initial trials in which it identified body parts with 99.98% accuracy and users with 99.5% accuracy. Scanning ears achieved an incredible 99.8% accuracy rate. (Now thieves who are ‘Apple Picking’ will also be demanding to slice off your favorite ear.)

FOR THE RECORD:
Paul Mason, once dubbed ‘World’s Fattest Man’, says he’s ready for weight-loss surgery in NYC. The 54-year-old from Ipswich UK used to weigh 970 lbs (440kg) but has lost about 630 lbs (285kg). He’s hoping the 8-hour surgery to remove excess skin will shed about another 100 lbs (45 kg). An area around his waist, known as ‘the apron’, will be removed in the procedure but further operations will be needed for his ‘bat wing’ arms. What’s his motivation? After Rebecca Mountain proposed marriage to him on a British TV program, he says having a fiancée has given him a new sense of responsibility. (Now, what to do with all that removed excess skin? Luggage?)
