BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Netflix has revealed that the release date for Season 5 of “Orange Is the New Black” is June 9th. The storyline for the 5th season of 13 episodes takes place over the course of just 3 days, breaking tradition from previous seasons. It picks up where Season 4 left off, with ‘Daya’ (Dascha Polanco) holding a gun that will seemingly initiate a prison-wide riot at ‘Litchfield’. The cast of the multiple award-winning series recently picked up their 3rd consecutive “SAG Award” for ‘Outstanding Performance By an Ensemble In a Comedy Series’.

★ Michael C Hall is returning to TV as another killer … a lady killer. The “Dexter” star is joining Season 2 of the Netflix Golden Globe-winning drama “The Crown”, in which he’ll portray John F Kennedy, opposite actress Jodi Balfour (“Quarry”) as Jackie Kennedy. Hall’s version of the late US president is described as a man who feels most comfortable in front of a crowd and isn’t happy with his wife stealing any of the limelight. Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Season 2, but it is thought it will arrive sometime in November.

★ And James Corden is working on new documentary about Motown Records. The “Late Late Show” host has lined up the most famous living Motown artists, including Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and Smokey Robinson; as well as label founder Berry Gordy, to help him tell the story of the legendary record label that was first headquartered in Detroit MI. Gordy is said to have turned down a lot of offers to make similar films in the past but has made an exception for this particular one. Why? Seems he’s a big “Late Late Show” fan.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Brantley Gilbert – He’s atop this week’s ‘Billboard Top Country Albums’ chart with “The Devil Don’t Sleep”. Little Big Town remains #1 on the ‘Hot Country Songs’ chart with “Better Man”.
• Brett Young – On March 1st he’s playing a bucket-list venue for any performing artist … NYC’s Madison Square Garden as part of Luke Bryan’s “Kill the Lights Tour”.
• Cassadee Pope – She’s now engaged after longtime boyfriend Rian Dawson proposed late on Friday evening. The couple has been dating since 2010. Dawson is the drummer for the rock band All Time Low.
• Ed Sheeran – He’s become the 1st act to spend 5 weeks at both #1 and #2 on the UK pop singles chart, with “Shape Of You” and “Castle On the Hill”. Meantime, Ed says he scrapped half the songs he’d recorded for his upcoming new album after he didn’t get the reaction he’d hoped for.
• Katy Perry – Last night at the Grammys, she performed her new single “Chained to the Rhythm” for the first time. It features guest vocals from Skip Marley (grandson of Bob) and Sia, who has a co-writing credit.
• Maroon 5 – Blake Shelton has dubbed Adam Levine an ”honest and loyal friend” as the Maroon 5 frontman was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday night.
The two work together (actually, compete) as coaches on NBC-TV’s “The Voice”.
• Prince – Universal Music Group has announced a multi-year agreement with the Estate of Prince Rogers Nelson effective immediately, granting exclusive licensing rights to the late artist’s NPG recordings, including a library of 25 albums and his highly anticipated trove of unreleased works. The deal excludes Prince’s Warner Music catalogue.
• Rolling Stones – A pair of Mick Jagger’s custom-made pants are set to fetch more than $10,000 at auction. RRAuction.com says the sage-green velvet pants, personally worn and shared by Jagger and bandmate Keith Richards, were gifted to musician Gram Parsons circa 1968. (It’s hard to believe Keith actually got into Mick’s pants.)

TRANS-DOLL:
Tonner Doll Company says it’s releasing what it believes to be the first transgender doll on the market. The doll is based on Jazz Jennings, the teenage transgender subject of the TLC documentary series “I am Jazz”. It makes its debut at this week’s New York Toy Fair and is scheduled to be available in stores by July. A company rep says the 18-inch doll, which has a gender-less plastic body, is being tested for kids aged 8-and-up and is expected to retail for $89.99. Jennings appeared at age 6 on a Barbara Walters “20/20” special in 2007. Her parents say she’s identified as female since she could talk. She’s also the youngest person ever to be recognized on “Advocate” magazine’s ‘Top 40 Under 40’ list and made “TIME” magazine’s ‘Most Influential Teens’ list in 2014 and 2015. (Aren’t most dolls gender-less? ‘Barbie’ and ‘Ken’ are basically interchangeable from the waist down.)

SAY HELLO:
It’s becoming increasingly difficult to make it through an entire day without uttering “Hey Siri”, “OK Google”, or “Alexa”, so it’s no surprise that Samsung has its own voice-controlled helper called ‘Bixby’ on the way. A feature that could be used in tandem with it is called ‘Hello’. A trademark application, which Samsung has filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, describes the functions of ‘Samsung Hello’ as being much the same as what most virtual assistants provide. It’s possible that ‘Hello’ is Samsung’s new name for ‘Bixby’ or perhaps just a feature within the system’s larger umbrella. We’ll likely have to wait until Samsung officially unveils its next crop of Galaxy devices before we know for certain. (If the trigger word turns out to be ‘Hello’, it could wreak much havoc, especially if you’re playing Adele music at the time.)

MAKING LIQUOR QUICKER:
We’re not sure this is a better use of ultrasound than giving expecting parents a first look at their unborn babies, but scientists in Spain have figured out they can use ultrasound to create brandy that tastes like it’s been aged for years … in just 3 days. Brandy is made by distilling wine, then aging it in wood casks from 2-to-10 years. Chemical reactions between the alcohol and the wood casks are what give brandies their flavor, smell, and color. The scientists have found that ultrasound waves create tiny bubbles that cause oak chips to release chemical compounds, quickly adding the brandy flavor. Eight expert judges have ruled that ultrasound brandy is comparable to regularly aged brandies. (Cool, a tiny bottle of Rémy Martin may soon cost less than $100.)

DANCE MOVES THAT ARE SEXY:
Brit psychologists have finally found a scientific answer to what moves make someone a good dancer. The researchers used motion-capture technology to track dancers’ movements, then mapped them onto digital avatars. People have then been encouraged to rate the moves from each avatar’s dance. It turns out that the moves judged best for women involve wide swings of the hips and asymmetrical leg movements, coupled with moderate amounts of asymmetrical arm movements. On the male side, viewers are most attracted to guys who move their upper body a lot, especially the neck and torso. This apparently signals more muscularity, which biologically would make a male a good mate. (No mention of twerking as being appealing whatsoever.) Here’s a look at the good and the bad …

SUPER-BEE:
Researchers in Japan have created insect-size drones that pollinate plants to replace – or at least help replace – real honeybees. The robot pollinators have animal hair on their backs to mimic the fuzzy body of a bee and a special sticky gel that allows them to pick up and release pollen grains. But for now, they’re a long way from pollinating anything outdoors – the tiny 2-by-2 cm drones never been tested outside a lab. Bee populations around-the-world have declined rapidly in recent years, possibly because of pesticides, diseases, and climate change. The so-called ‘Colony Collapse Disorder’ is in part what inspired the researchers to create a robot bee. Without pollinators, we wouldn’t have a lot of the food we rely on every day. (A movie in which robot honeybees are hacked to kill people is no doubt already in the works.)
