BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Wonder Woman’s star continues to shine brightly: It’s now the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman worldwide. Director Patty Jenkins, who previously won an Oscar for 2003’s Monster, the DC Extended Universe film has so far earned $635 million worldwide, surpassing Phyllida Lloyd’s Mamma Mia! ($609.8 million).

★ An update on last week’s reports that ‘Wonder Woman’ Gal Gadot was paid a paltry $300,000 to star in the blockbuster.  Many media outlets reported the figure in comparison to Justice League counterpart Henry Cavill, who played Superman in 2013’s ‘Man of Steel’.   Deadspin is reporting that Warner Bros actually agreed to double Gadot’s pay to around $600,000 before her movie began production. Add in the bonus checks she already has earned once Wonder Woman became a global blockbuster, and her payday is already in the multiple seven figures.  Deadspin also states that Cavill actually got a comparable amount, certainly under $1M, to play Superman, a far cry from the $14M reported.

★ Reports are that Tommy Lee Jones is close to signing on for Brad Pitt’s upcoming sci-fi epic ‘Ad Astra’.  Pitt will play an autistic space engineer on the hunt for his father who left earth to seek extra-terrestrial life. Jones will reportedly play the father. (Tommy Lee Jones as Brad Pitt’s father….do you buy it?)

★ Josh Duhamel trained with the Navy SEALS and signed up for yoga classes to prepare for ‘Transformers: The Last Knight’. He points out that when he started in the role, he was 34, and now at 44, he is much more prone to injury.  He concentrated on strength training, plus yoga for flexibility.  Duhamel says it paid off, because he got through it without injury. (Megatron, however, was not so lucky…)

★ The looming vote in the U.S. on the controversial Senate Republicans’ health care bill has motivated Hollywood to chime in.  A-listers Jennifer Lawrence, Jon Hamm and Lena Dunham, joined a plethora of 25 more celebrities including Aubrey Plaza, Padma Lakshmi, Suki Waterhouse, Elisabeth Moss, Spike Jonze, Amy Poehler and Brie Larson to create a video supporting Planned Parenthood. In the opening frame, superimposed text reads ‘these famous faces want to help you reach your representative.’

★ Prince Harry says he almost quit royal life for good. The 32-year-old prince has admitted in a ‘Newsweek’ interview that he ”wanted out” of public service and considered stepping out of the spotlight and giving up his title but he eventually decided to stay out of loyalty to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. According to the Prince, he spent many years kicking his heels and he didn’t want to grow up.  He says he eventually pulled his head out of the sand, and decided to use his role for good.

• Axl Rose – A London London party attended by the Guns N’ Roses singer and Tom Jones(!) was shut down by officials at 6am.  The two stars were among guests at a hotel party which was scheduled to finish at 3am but two council noise officers reportedly arrived following complaints from neighbours, with guests eventually leaving the venue at 6am.

• Foo Fighters – Frontman Dave Grohl dropped the f-bomb repeatedly on stage at Glastonbury to outdo Adele, who was revealed to have sworn 33 times during her 2016 set. Grohl had been warned about using profanity during the televised broadcast of the music festival, so he deliberately lead the crowd in a foul-mouthed song to surpass the 33 curses used Adele onstage last year.
• One Direction – Louis Tomlinson admits he wasn’t keen for the group to go on hiatus. The timing was particularly hard for Louis because he felt he’d finally found his feet as a performer.
• Imagine Dragons – frontman Dan Reynolds has been baring his soul on Twitter. He released two lengthy notes to fans about depression, his marriage and his band’s new album ‘Evolve’.
• Dierks Bentley – his 3-year-old son, Knox recently broke his arm after a nasty fall while they were on tour. Bentley says that Knox was jumping from a loft in a rented house, and expected his grandfather would catch him.  Apparently nobody told Grandpa!
• Brad Paisley – his Netflix one-hour comedy special, “Brad Paisley’s Comedy Rodeo,” will debut on Aug. 15. The show includes comedians Nate Bargatze, John Heffron, Jon Reep, Sarah Tiana and Mike E. Winfield. David Hasselhoff and Reba McEntire make special appearances.

SKEETER BAIT:
Have you ever been sitting around the campfire or working in the yard and felt that the mosquitos are particularly attracted to….you?  You just may be right!  Health experts believe mosquitoes actually do prefer certain types of people. Here are a few factors that may make you ‘Mosquito Bait.’:
✓ Pregnancy – Pregnant women exhale more carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.
(And she said she didn’t feel attractive when she was pregnant!)
✓ Exercise – After a run outside, expect to get a few mosquito bites. The’s because they are attracted to lactic acid, the compound produced after exercising.  (Avoid yardwork–reason #29!)
✓ Alcohol – Drinkers are more attractive to mosquitoes because alcohol raises our body temperature, and mosquitoes zero-in on warm bodies. (But at least you don’t feel it!)
✓ Clothing Color – Mosquitoes navigate with smell but also vision. Red, black, and dark blue stand out to them. (They are also attracted to those WITHOUT clothing….trust me on that one!)
✓ Type O Blood – According to a study, people with Type O blood are 83 percent more likely to get bitten by mosquitos. Typically, people with Type A have the lowest risk.
(When I go outside, I can hear mosquitos ringing the dinner bell!)

WORKOUT PERFUMES: BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVE:
You may not think that the words ‘workout’ and ‘perfume’ go together…unless you have a male teenager who tends to choose a healthy dose of ‘Axe’ body spray over a post-exercise shower.  But according to the perfume subscription service Scentbird.com, one of the top new searches is for “workout fragrances.”  The idea is that users not only want to choose a pleasant scent, but also one that helps them get ‘pumped’ to work out. So here is what you should be looking for when picking a ‘workout perfume’:

○ Roll With it:  Most fragrance sprays are alcohol-based and tend to have more wafting power (plus they can linger on clothing). Try an oil, which rolls directly onto your skin.  It also is less likely to choke up the poor dude doing cardio next to you.

○ Stick to Citrus: For energy, try fruity or herbal scents.  These are also less noticeable to sensitive noses.  Avoid heavy scents, which are more distracting.

○ Be Courteous:  Apply it 20 minutes before exercising so the most potent top notes can dissipate. This is particularly important for confined areas, like a yoga studio.
(These sound a whole lot better than the ‘traditional’ workout scent…)
(When selecting a scent for motivation, I’m much more inclined to go with ‘pizza’!
