Bully For You!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ An animated “Gremlins” series is being developed for WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service. The first “Gremlins” film was released in 1984, along with a sequel, “Gremlins 2: The New Batch,” in 1990. Not much is known about WarnerMedia’s upcoming streaming service, except that it will launch this year and it will include “Friends” as its star attraction (and they really don’t want to share it with Netflix).
-TheWrap
★ Luke Wilson will star in an unknown role among a ton of major names who will be part of the highly anticipated sequel to the 2009 horror comedy “Zombieland 2”.  Wilson will appear alongside returning cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, who will all reprise their roles from the original movie. Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson have been confirmed as new characters for the sequel. Production is set to start this month, with a scheduled October release.
-ContactMusic
★ Could another Austin Powers film be on the way? Star Mike Myers was on hand at the 91st Academy Awards, where he was asked about plans for a possible return for the shag-a-delic International Ian of Mystery. Myers said: “There are. But I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or nonexistence of such a program should they exist or not exist.”
(Sounds like something a “Man of Mystery” would say…)

★ Oscars producers are once again in hot water for missing a star in the annual “In Memoriam” montage. During Sunday’s ceremony, tribute was paid to legends such as Stan Lee, Burt Reynolds, Margot Kidder and more. But there were complaints from viewers on Twitter when Verne Troyer was snubbed from the montage, despite being a huge part of the “Austin Powers” movie franchise as “Mini-Me”.

• Walker Hayes – says his family’s new puppy, a cavadoodle (that’s a Cavalier King Charles spaniel mixed with a poodle) named Hazel is helping him and his wife Laney and their six kids heal following the death of his infant daughter Oakleigh Klover, last June.

CALIFORNIA SCREAMIN’:
A California senator wants his county to have its own version of Germany’s Autobahn.  That’s right, Senator John Moorlach of Orange County has introduced a proposal that would allow unlimited speed lanes on two major highways. Bill SB-319 would add two lanes each to the north- and south-bound lanes of I-5 and Highway 99. Those lanes would have NO speed limit.  None.  Drive as fast as you please.  Or as fast as you dare.  Or as fast as your car can go.  Although an American Autobahn might be a tantalizing proposition, the senator’s logic might be a bit suspect.  Moorlach says that if you’re driving at 100 miles per hour, “You’re burning the fuel efficiently, as opposed to just sitting in slow traffic waiting for one truck to pass another truck for 20 minutes.”  California’s current speed limit is 65 mph, except for a very few exceptions where the limit is 70 mph.
(When I was 20, this would have seemed like SO MUCH of a better idea than it does now…)
(My wife would still sit there telling me that I’m going to get a speeding ticket!)
(I’ll be the guy scavenging for car parts along the side of the road!)

SO THAT’S WHAT REDDIT DOES!
Is it possible that we have finally reached “peak social media”?  That’s what the co-founder of Reddit, Alexis Ohanian thinks. He feels that platforms that are built around “following individual persons…have reached their saturation point.”  While he wasn’t naming specific social media platforms, it’s fairly clear that he was referring to sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, for starters.  And he may not be far off.  Both Facebook and Twitter have posted disappointing ‘monthly active user growth’ reports this year.  So, what’s next?  Ohanian says that users’ tastes are shifting toward intimate, communally-focused alternatives. He sees people preferring things like group chats and smaller communities.  Funny enough, that is exactly what he says Reddit provides…“A network of communities…for people to discuss whatever is most important (to them) and vote up the best stuff and vote down the stuff that folks don’t like.”  He says we’ll see more and more social platforms that are built around communities of interest, as opposed to following individuals.
(For more stories like this, follow me on Reddit.  Wait…following isn’t a thing on Reddit, is it?)
(It’s funny, I shared this story on Facebook yesterday…and somehow…it’s disappeared!)
(Somewhere there’s a Kardashian screaming in horror with mascara tears running down her face!)

BEST ACTION MOVIES EVER MADE:
1. First Blood (1982): When John Rambo could still formulate a sentence.
2. Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003): The Crazy 88 fight is so good, they didn’t need to film it in color!
3. The Raid 2: Redemption (2014): Brilliantly violent (if that’s a good thing).
4. Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015): The introduction of Rebecca Ferguson manages to amp up the emotional stakes.
5. The Bourne Ultimatum (2006): James Bond is still playing catch-up.
6. John Wick (2014): Like any good action hero, he won’t let his grief get in the way of shooting every bad guy in the head at point-blank range.
7. Enter the Dragon (1973): Unrelenting action, and not a gun to be found.
8. The Killer (1989): The first legit dove-filled action scene, which has been parodied to death ever since (Pardon my choice of words…)
9. Aliens (1986): Don’t dare NOT think of this as an action movie.
10. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015): There is no record of anyone ever getting up to use the washroom during this 2-hour action fest….
(I wouldn’t want to be the one to tell Liam Neeson that he didn’t make the cut…with that “very particular set of skills” of his and all…)

DID YOU KNOW?
The winner of last fall’s $1.5 billion Mega Millions lottery in South Carolina has still not been found.  And if no one comes forward with the lucky ticket by the April 19 deadline, the “winner” won’t be the only person to forfeit some bucks.  The owner of the store where the winning ticket was sold won’t be able to collect a $50,000 bonus.  And each South Carolina taxpayer may lose a $50 rebate, tied to the $61 million the winner would pay in taxes on the jackpot.
