BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson performed their “A Star Is Born” duet ‘The Love Inside’ live for the first time ever at London’s Hyde Park on Sunday night. The surprise performance came over four decades after the duo starred in the 1976 version of the musical drama, which was adapted last year with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in the leading roles.

★ Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are facing numerous lawsuits over unpaid debts, and they were supposed to be in court this week to respond to a suit filed by the City National Bank of Los Angeles. But McDermott is in the hospital for pneumonia and possible meningitis, and he and Spelling have asked the court to postpone the hearing. Last weekend, he posted a hospital selfie on Instagram and told his followers that he had been admitted to hospital and that he has never “been so sick” in his life. Because he was well enough to post on social media and to plug his “Daddy Issues Show,” but he was too sick to avoid court, some fans are speculating that he was faking it.

★ Cameron Boyce was loved by many, and the tens of thousands of responses to Adam Sandler’s tribute are proof of that. Sandler took to Twitter to share a message about the young actor’s death, which occurred over the weekend. Boyce starred as Lenny Feder, the son of Adam Sandler’s character Keith Feder in both “Grown Ups” and “Grown Ups 2”. Alongside a picture of Boyce, Sandler wrote: “Too young. Too sweet. Too funny. Just the nicest, most talented, and most decent kid around.” Boyce died in his sleep due to a seizure brought on by a previously diagnosed medical condition.

★ In the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic, Tom Hanks will play the singer’s late manager, “Colonel” Tom Parker. Parker’s widow, Loanne, says she excited about the casting, but she hopes the movie won’t make her husband out to be a villain. Loanne Parker gave a video chat interview on Saturday, not long after Hanks’ casting was announced, and said that she believes Hanks is the perfect actor to play her late husband, and trusts him to do a faithful portrayal. There is no title or release date yet for the movie.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Miley Cyrus — A Canadian activist is claiming Cyrus stole her slogans. The accusation comes from an activist who has worked with “Femen”, which fights for women’s rights. Among the items for sale on their website is a shirt with the phrase “Every Woman Is A Riot.” In the video for ‘Mother’s Daughter’, those exact words flash across the screen.
• Adele — is reportedly in the midst of planning a ‘wild affair’ for pal and bride-to-be, Jennifer Lawrence.  An insider reports that “It’s all top secret at the moment, but guests have slowly been receiving their invitations. Jennifer loves to party so anything could happen on the day.” Lawrence became engaged to art gallery director Cooke Maroney in February.
• Hootie & the Blowfish — singer Darius Rucker has hit out at executive producer Tom Hanks over the band’s omission from the 2017 docuseries, “The Nineties”. Their debut album “Cracked Rear View” hit #1 and boasted three Top 10 singles. Rucker asked an interviewer: “How…can you do a show about ’90s music and not mention ‘Cracked’?” He then went on to hurl an expletive directed at Tom Hanks. (Happy birthday, Tom!)
• Stevie Wonder – revealed to fans at the British Summer Time Hyde Park music festival on Saturday that he will undergo a kidney transplant. Speculation about his health surfaced last week after a newspaper reported that Wonder was “battling a serious but manageable health issue.” He has a performance booked for tonight in Dublin, but nothing scheduled beyond that.
• KISS — Gene Simmons has addressed the criticism that the band has received over the cost of tickets to their “End Of The Road Farewell Tour”, which range in price from $25 all the way up to $1000 for a VIP package, and the “Ultimate KISS Army Experience” at about $5000. Simmons said: “Being in a touring band is big business. (The KISS show) is as good, or better, than anything else. If you’ve got one guy with an acoustic guitar, you can charge less. We’ve got 60 people on the crew and 20 trucks and who knows how many buses, and a jet.”
• Chris Stapleton – has teamed up with Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran on a ’70s rock-inspired song called ‘Blow’.  It will appear on Sheeran’s upcoming album “No.6 Collaborations Project”, out on Friday. Stapleton sings lead on the second verse of the song, which Mars produced.
• Luke Combs – His “This One’s for You” ranks as the most popular country album so far in the U.S. in 2019, with 605,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music. The rest of the top five, in order, are: Dan + Shay, “Dan + Shay” (387,000), Chris Stapleton, “Traveller” (292,000), Florida Georgia Line, “Can’t Say I Ain’t Country” (284,000), and Kacey Musgraves, “Golden Hour” (274,000).

PICK YOUR POISON:
Yes, by necessity, alcoholic beverages are carefully controlled and their distribution is strictly regulated. But it turns out that maybe the bottles that they come in should also be regulated. A new study found that some of the materials used to make alcoholic beverage bottles contain some seriously disturbing levels of heavy metals. The concentration of materials like lead and cadmium were found to be so high in some bottles that manufacturers might be breaking the law. Researchers found that while levels of these dangerous materials in the glass of the bottles were generally not a concern, the exterior ornamentation and decoration of many bottles was a different story, with lead levels as high as 80,000 parts per million. For reference, the upper limit for lead in paint is just 90ppm.
(That’s why I always hold my bottle in a paper bag!)

HOW LEFT-HANDED PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT:
Lefties comprise of 10-15 per cent of the population. Here is what is different about them (Aside from the fact that they prefer to use their left hand for stuff…):
☞ They are able to use both sides of their brain more efficiently:  Lefties tend to have faster connections between the right and left hemispheres of the brain, which leads to quicker information processing. That can help in things like video games and sports….
☞ They might have the upper hand in sports:  25 percent of Major League baseball players are lefties. Why? It may be because they tend to have faster reaction times, as a study found. Studies have also found that lefties seem to have an advantage in interactive sports, such as boxing, tennis and baseball ― but not in non-interactive sports, like gymnastics and diving. It’s possible that because of their different physical orientation and movements, lefties are able throw off right-handed opponents, who are used to going up against other righties. (As a lefty, I was pretty good at running…like a girl!)
☞ Their brains organize emotion differently:  A study found that for lefties, motivation was associated with greater activity in the right hemisphere of the brain, while the opposite was true of right-handers.  This may have important implications in caring for anxiety and mood disorders, which are sometimes treated using brain stimulation to increase activity in the left hemisphere. (Lefties will have to learn to use it backward, same as scissors!)
☞ Lefties may be more creative thinkers:  Many studies have suggested a link between left-handedness and creativity. Lefties are seemingly better at divergent thinking (the ability to think of many solutions to a single problem). Another possibility is that the brains of lefties have a more highly developed right hemisphere, which has been suggested to be more involved in creative thinking. (And I cannot begin to count the number of very creative people I’ve worked with over the years in radio who are left-handed. All of which were eventually fired, now that I think about it…)
