★ Alec Baldwin was in the hot seat Saturday night for the latest Comedy Central roast —and as per usual, it was brutal. Numerous digs were taken at the actor for his behavior and temper through the years but mixed in among those quips were jokes about Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. The roast will air Sept. 15 on Comedy Central.

★ The doctor who was responsible for Britney Spears’ medical treatment has died suddenly, just weeks before the judge in her conservatorship case will receive a report focusing on whether she was receiving appropriate treatment. The cause of death has not been disclosed, but sources say that the 48-year-old psychiatrist died from an aneurysm. The timing is significant. Sources connected to Britney say the judge will receive a report within the next 10 days from a court-appointed evaluator who has spent more than 3 months determining if her medical and other care was appropriate.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift — is still riding high off the release of her latest studio album “Lover” — in multiple genres. Her collaboration with country music trio Dixie Chicks ‘Soon You’ll Get Better’, scored Swift her first Billboard Hot Country Songs top 10 since 2013 as a lead artist. The ballad was written by Swift and Jack Antonoff for Swift’s mother, who is fighting breast cancer.
• Harry Styles — may not be starring as Prince Eric in the upcoming live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” but he says that the opportunity “was discussed.” He was originally in the running to star as the prince opposite Halle Bailey’s ‘Ariel’, but he ultimately passed on the role to focus on music.
• Jimmy Page – will release a new book, “Jimmy Page: The Anthology” in December. It will document the Led Zeppelin guitarist’s career through selected material from his personal archives, including photos of hundreds of items including iconic guitars and stage costumes, plus rare posters and vinyl pressings.
• The Black Crowes – drummer Steve Gorman says it’s a “safe bet” that they will at some point be back together and playing music. The group split acrimoniously in 2015. Gorman’s book, “Hard To Handle: The Life And Death Of The Black Crowes – A Memoir” is scheduled for release later this month.
• Foreigner — Original frontman Lou Gramm says that there are more reunion shows planned for this fall. Last November, the current lineup of the group was joined during their “Double Vision: Then And Now” show by Gramm, and other previous members Dennis Elliott, Al Greenwood, Rick Wills and Ian McDonald.
• Greta Van Fleet – have released the new song ‘Always There’, which appears on the soundtrack for the movie “A Million Little Pieces”. It was recorded during sessions for debut album “Anthem of the Peaceful Army”, but was not previously released. A Million Little Pieces is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and features Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton and Juliette Lewis.
• The Beatles — are streaming a new 2019 mix of the track, ‘Oh! Darling’ from the forthcoming 50th anniversary reissue of 1969’s “Abbey Road”, and a previously-unreleased “Take 4” version of the song. The “Abbey Road” reissue will deliver a new mix of the original album plus 23 session recordings and demos, most of which have not been previously available.
• Justin Moore – His latest single, ‘The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home’ is his eighth No. 1 single on the Billboard Country Chart. The song is from Moore’s “Late Nights and Longnecks” which was released early this summer and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart.
• Kelsea Ballerini – Her new single ‘Homecoming Queen?’, which was released on Friday, is an emotional-sounding song, but the video takes its message to an even deeper level when she begins to cry what appear to be real tears. She posted: “I’ve learned there’s a lot of strength in vulnerability.”

PILLOW TALK:
If you and your significant other are locked in an eternal battle about the thermostat setting, here is what might be the deciding vote. Whichever one of you likes it colder at night has science on their side. According to an article by Dr. Christopher Winter, medical director at Charlottesville Neurology & Sleep Medicine, there are a number of reasons to keep the temperature in the 60-67 degrees F (15.5-19.5 C) range while you sleep. His research shows that you are more likely to experience lower quality sleep if the bedroom temperature is out of that range. Why? Because of our natural 24-hour cycle, we tend to get sleepy when our body temperature begins to drop, so keeping the room cold could encourage you to fall asleep faster, and enjoy a more restful sleep. Long-term benefits of sleeping in a cool room include a decrease in stress hormones which could help you lose weight, lowered risk of diabetes and a more youthful appearance.
(I call that one awesome argument in favor of cranking the A/C all summer long!)
(If a cold bedroom is a good thing, I’m going to live forever!)
(I’m at the very advantageous position where if it gets too warm, I just snuggle up to my wife’s feet!)

A WALKMAN DOWN MEMORY LANE:
Sony is releasing a new 40th anniversary edition of its revolutionary music player, the “Walkman”. The Walkman was the first truly portable personal cassette player and it changed the way we listen to music. The new version has a 40th anniversary logo printed on the back, and it comes with a specially designed case and package that pay homage to the original TPS-L2 Walkman. While a look through the plastic window will give the impression of the cogs of a cassette turning inside, a closer look will reveal that it is a touch screen with a perfect video representation of a tape. As you tap it, the image is replaced by the modern interface of a digital audio player, with album art, track details and play and pause functionality. Powered by Android, the new Sony Walkman will deliver high-resolution audio, and give listeners the option of using a vinyl processor to give digital tracks the “character” of vinyl. It also has USB-C port for connections. It hits stores in November.
(And if you thought they were expensive in 1979…)
(And just like then, I’m sure I’ll be able to find a way to make it eat my entire music collection…)
(Aaaaand apparently all my old cassettes are….still useless.)

THINGS NUTRITIONISTS NEVER EAT – AND YOU SHOULDN’T EITHER:
⇒ Artificial Sweeteners – The jury is still out whether they are safe. Indulge in the real thing occasionally and mindfully instead. (Or drink your coffee black, like the coffee gods intended!)
⇒ Microwave Popcorn: Those bags are loaded with artificial chemicals, and there is also the risk of a serious lung disease called ‘popcorn lung’. (So much for my go-to ‘healthy snack…’)
⇒ Processed deli meats: They contain a lot of additives which can cause inflammation, and increase your risk for disease. Opt for organic, nitrate and antibiotic free deli meats. (I’ll just grab a burger, thanks.)
⇒ Margarine: Most contain mainly highly processed vegetable oils. Go for real butter, which has heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids (also because margarine is about one molecule removed from the container that it comes in!)
⇒ Cheese: It is high in calories, saturated fat and sodium. There are better ways to get calcium, including nuts, seeds, and fortified yogurt. (They taste pretty funny on a pizza, though…)
⇒ Ramen Noodles: Loaded with salt and have very little, if any, nutritional value. (But my inner hungover college student still craves it at least once a week!)
⇒ Lunchables: Processed meats full of nitrates, refined grains, and candy. Just. Don’t. Feed. Them. To. Your. Kids.
⇒ Blended Fruit Yogurts: Nearly 50% of the calories can come from added sugar. Basically, a dessert for breakfast. Have plain yogurt with real fruit instead. (What if I have it with lunch?)
⇒ Donuts: You didn’t think they WOULDN’T be on this list, did you? Refined white flour, deep fried, and covered in sugar. Nutritionists say they are filled with pretty much the worst ingredients out there. (And I say they’re filled with pretty much the BEST ingredients out there!)

DID YOU KNOW?
The ampersand (&) was once the 27th letter of the alphabet. To avoid confusion with the word “and”, people added ‘per se’ before its name when reciting the alphabet, so that it ended, “X, Y, Z, and per se &.” Over time, the “and” and “per se and” ran together, and the term ‘ampersand’ was born.
