BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ (***SPECIAL UPDATE:***) Legendary guitarist and co-founder of Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen, has died after a long battle with throat cancer. He passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica Tuesday. His wife, Janie, was by his side, along with his son, Wolfgang, and Alex, Eddie’s brother and drummer. Wolfgang wrote on Twitter: “He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift…I love you so much, Pop.” The 65-year-old had been battling cancer for well over a decade, with reports he’d been in and out of hospital over the past year — and recently underwent a round of chemo.

★ “The Price Is Right” is heading back into production with a redesigned, COVID-friendly set and all of its usual rounds, but, for the first time in its nearly 50-year run, it will be without its rambunctious audience. Unlike some other entertainment formats, the Drew Carey-hosted show is not able to have a virtual audience, because it would be impossible to ensure that they weren’t looking online to find the “actual retail values.” Producers say that although it was necessary to completely rebuild the set, they’ve figured out a way to bring back all 77 games featured on the show. Contestants will be in-studio.

★ Duck Dynasty’s Sadie Robertson is going to be a mom! She announced on Instagram that she is expecting her first baby with husband Christian Huff. In November 2019, Sadie and Christian said “I Do” in front of family and friends at the Robertson’s parents’ home in Louisiana. Since then, the couple has documented their life as happy newlyweds on social media.

★ Alan Ruck’s Cameron Frye character is back…and he’s all grown up. A new TV commercial for LiftMaster garage door openers recreates the iconic scene from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, when Ferris and Cameron step into the glass-walled garage housing the car they’re about to take on an epic joyride. In the new commercial, a pair of teenagers enter the garage and see the same car. But, as it turns out, they are not Ferris and Cameron. Just as the teens are about to get in the vehicle, a voice is heard saying: “Don’t even think about it.” “Dad” is revealed to be Ruck, playing a now-grown Cameron, who has been watching, thanks to his garage door opener’s built-in security camera.

★ Buffalo Bill’s house from the iconic thriller “Silence of the Lambs” is up for grabs. Lotion not included. The house was used as the set in the 1991 classic, but has been a fully operational home since then. Now, it’s on the market for $300,000. The four-bedroom home with a sprawling front porch sits on 1.7 acres in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania, along the train tracks featured in the opening shot of the Buffalo Bill scene.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ed Sheeran — may be known for his ginger locks, but his first management company suggested he’d do better if he died his hair black, ditch his trademark loop pedal and stop rapping. Sheeran has said he learned to embrace his “quirky” appearance when he realized it helped him stand out in a crowd.
• David Guetta – says Madonna once refused to work with him after he revealed he’s a Scorpio. He claims Madonna contacted him after his remix of her song ‘Revolver’ won a Grammy in 2011. They met for lunch to discuss his producing her next album, but when she asked about his star sign, “Suddenly, she makes a face and she says to me, ‘I’m sorry, we’re not going to be able to work together. It was a pleasure to know you. Goodbye!’”
• Led Zeppelin – Their lengthy copyright battle over ‘Stairway to Heaven’ appears to be over. The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear arguments, leaving in place a lower-court ruling that found no infringement after the estate of Randy California charged them with plagiarizing the intro from the 1968 Spirit song ‘Taurus’.
• Fleetwood Mac – Drummer Mick Fleetwood has filmed his own version of the viral TikTok video featuring Nathan Apodaca skating and drinking fruit juice while singing along to the 1977 Mac hit ‘Dreams’. Fleetwood posted a copycat clip, noting that Apodaca “had it right”. LINK: https://youtu.be/cGBA088ypJ0
• Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band — will be the subject of a documentary film called “Letter to You” that will premiere on Apple TV+ on October 23, the same day as the Boss’ new album of the same name.
• Guns N’ Roses – have teamed with Jersey Jack Pinball to design the “Not in This Lifetime” pinball machine. Slash, an avid pinball collector and longtime player, worked with the designer for over two years to develop the game, which features recorded guitar riffs, music, voice, and video, plus four playable modes in the game.
• Eagles — have released a new live version of ‘Take It Easy’ from their upcoming album “Live From the Forum MMXVIII”. Deacon Frey (son of the late Glenn) handles the lead vocal. Live From the Forum will be available in both audio and video formats on Oct. 16.
• Shania Twain – has confirmed that a collaboration with Harry Styles is in the works. In an interview on British TV, she said: “Definitely, we text each other off and on, about music and toying with the idea of doing something together…You can count on it. I’m going to hold him to it.”
• Meghan Patrick – was the big winner at the CMAOntario drive-in awards. She won Female Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for the 3rd consecutive year, and Album of the Year for the second consecutive year, this time for “Wild As Me”. She now has a total of 15 CMAOntario Awards.
• Darius Rucker and Reba McEntire – will co-host the 54th annual CMA Awards, taking place at Music City Centre in Nashville on November 11. Rucker will host the award show for the first time, while it will be McEntire’s fifth.

SLOW BREW:
A good, strong cup of coffee after a poor night’s sleep is the kick-start many people need in the morning, but new research suggests that it would be better to eat breakfast first. A study found that drinking coffee first thing can have a negative effect on blood sugar control — a risk factor for diabetes and heart disease. University of Bath researchers determined that consuming coffee before eating can dramatically throw off your glucose metabolism…and your mood, but drinking any liquid AFTER food consumption facilitates digestion and the prevention of constipation. These parameters are further influenced by sleep quality. They concluded that a good rule to follow is: If you haven’t had a good night’s rest, save your coffee until after breakfast.
(I don’t want to say I’m in a hurry to have coffee in the morning, but I usually make one for the drive to the coffee shop!)
(OK, but I’m not even sure how safe it would be to put me in charge of a toaster before I’ve have my coffee!)
(How about if I just ORDER my coffee first?)

NO KITTEN:
An animal expert says that your cat is fully capable of being a…well, a copycat. Claudia Fugazza, an animal behaviorist at Budapest’s Eötvös Loránd University partnered with a Japanese dog trainer to do research. Here’s what they learned about cat cognition: Not only can cats learn to do a few tricks, they can learn the concept of imitation. And according to her, so far, only apes, dolphins, killer whales and parrots have shown they can imitate humans. What actions was she able to do that her cat mimicked? She trained it to lay down, stand up, spin around, touch a wobbly toy, open a drawer, and bite a rubber string. Then the cat learned to follow her lead when she raised her right hand and touched a box, and when she bent down and rubbed her face against the box.
(Newsflash: The cat was going to do that anyway!)
(And yet, no one has ever found a way to make a cat take a pill…)
(My cat imitates me quite often. Whenever I’m totally bored and disgusted with the whole world, for example…)

EMOJIS IN MOTION:
Apple has updated the “Face with Medical Mask” emoji for the new iOS 14.2 operating system, making it look a little more cheerful, in an effort to show that wearing a mask is not a bad thing. Up until now, the emoji had exasperated downturned eyes, and looked a bit sorry for itself. Now, the face not only has cheerful blushing cheeks, but its happy eyes imply there’s a smile going on under that covering. iOS 14.2, is currently in beta stage and is expected to be released in late October or early November.
(Please tell me they’re not also making one with the nose sticking out…)

HOW OFTEN YOU SHOULD CHANGE IT:
⇒ Sheets:  Bedding should be washed at least once every two weeks, weekly if you sweat a lot at night. And you’ve been sick or down with the flu, sheets should be washed immediately. (Or if you drool a lot…)
⇒ Toothbrush:  Every three to four months, sooner if the bristles look worn out. (Or if you store it near the toilet…)
⇒ Bath loofah:  Can you imagine all the bacteria on those things? If you have a natural loofah, you should swap it every 3-4 weeks. If you use a plastic one, you can get 2 months out of it.
⇒ Kitchen sponge:  Every week. Researchers found that bacteria that can cause foodborne disease stay on sponges or scrubbers even if they’ve been cleaned in the microwave or in boiling water.
⇒ Dish towel:  Every time it’s used. Bacteria grows on it very rapidly. (Hello, paper towels…)
⇒ Yoga mat:  Good news – You don’t need to replace it regularly as long as you clean it properly. (At least until a new “must-have” color or style is invented…)
⇒ Contact lens case:  Every 3 months in order to prevent infections.
⇒ Makeup brushes:  About every 3 months, or as needed when you notice lost bristles, discolorization or unusual smells. (Less often in a pandemic??)

DID YOU KNOW?
The city of Lakeland, Florida is selling its swans. Or at least some of them. According to local reports, overpopulation is becoming a problem in Lake Morton, the swans’ home. City officials estimate there are about 80 swans there. The city is expecting to sell between 16 and 20 of them to get the flock to the where it needs to be. It also doesn’t help that it costs the city about $10,000 a year to feed and care for them.
