Deja Moo!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Dustin Diamond will be honored in next season’s reboot of “Saved by the Bell”. Mario Lopez, who starred as ‘A.C. Slater’ alongside Diamond’s ‘Screech’ character during the show’s original run in the ’90s, says the cast and crew are working on a “special” tribute. Diamond died on Feb. 1 at 44, just weeks after he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He did not participate in last year’s Saved By the Bell reboot, which was recently renewed for Season 2. However, he had a close bond with Lopez over the years, despite distancing himself from other original cast members.

★ Anderson Cooper found out the hard way that following Aaron Rodgers is a tough gig. The CNN host’s first week guest-hosting “Jeopardy!” did not get off to the best ratings start, falling 7% to a 5.1 rating, the lowest debut for any of the game show’s guest hosts. Ratings for syndicated shows for the week ending April 25 were hampered due to extensive daytime coverage of the Derek Chauvin murder trial. The 5.1 rating for Cooper’s first week dropped “Jeopardy!” out of the top game show spot, behind “Family Feud” which pulled in a 5.5 rating. Cooper’s 5.1 was just below Dr. Oz’s 5.2 rating for his debut week, which had been the previous low for a “Jeopardy!” guest host.

★ “Saturday Night Live” is wrapping up the season with two first-time hosts. NBC has announced that Keegan-Michael Key and Anya Taylor-Joy will host the final 2 episodes of season 46. Key will headline the May 15 episode, joined by ‘Drivers License’ singer Olivia Rodrigo as musical guest. Meanwhile, “The Queen’s Gambit” star Taylor-Joy will host the season finale on May 22. She’ll be accompanied by musical guest Lil Nas X, who will also be making his SNL debut.

★ Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is releasing her first children’s book, one rooted in the relationship between Prince Harry and their son, Archie. “The Bench” will be released June 8. The book grew out of a poem Meghan wrote for Harry for their first Father’s Day after Archie’s birth, according to a statement. The book will feature the stories of a diverse group of fathers and sons and moments they share.

SHOOTING THE BULL

ABOUT TIME:
You see so many abbreviations used in daily life today that it may come as a surprise that very few people actually know what the letters “a.m.” and “p.m.” stand for, when used in reference to time. Some believe it’s “after midnight” or “past midday,” but that isn’t exactly true. Actually, like many words and phrases in the English language, a.m. is short for a Latin phrase, “ante meridiem” (or “before midday”), while p.m. is short for “post meridiem” (or “after midday”). The 12-hour timekeeping system dates back to ancient Egypt. During the Renaissance period, mechanical clocks with 12-hour dials appeared in churches and palaces throughout Europe. Today, most of the world uses a 24-hour system, but many English-speaking countries follow the 12-hour clock.
(Unless they’re in the military…or don’t know how to change the settings on their iPhone!)
(I used to think that 12 AM and 12 PM were the same thing. Man, those were different times…)
(24-hour system? Not on MY watch!)

WORMING THEIR WAY ONTO THE MENU:

Dried yellow mealworms could soon be hitting supermarket shelves and restaurants across Europe. The European Union has given the green light to a proposal to put the Tenebrio molitor beetle’s larvae on the market as a “novel food”. That comes after the EU’s food safety agency published a scientific opinion that concluded worms are safe to eat. Researchers said the worms, either eaten whole or in powdered form, are a protein-rich snack or an ingredient for other foods. Insects as food represent a very small market but EU officials say breeding them for food could have environmental benefits. The UN calls insects “a healthy and highly nutritious food source with a high content of fat, protein, vitamins, fibers and minerals.”
(If we can eat snails, then why not?)
(To me, worms are only a “novel food” if someone else is eating them!)
(Worms as food is NOT something I’m willing to debate. Worms as de bait, sure…)

MENTAL HEALTH CHECK:
This is the 70th annual CMHA Mental Health Week in Canada. Here are the signs you need to take a “Mental Health Day” – seriously…
➢ You’re more disorganized that usual:  If lately, you’ve been losing track of tasks or your bedroom floor’s become a tornado of clothing, it may be a clue that you need a break.
➢ You’re exhausted all the time:  If, for several days in a row, you’re struggling with insomnia, have trouble getting out of bed, or still feel tired even when you get enough sleep, it could be your brain’s way of warning that you need some time off.
➢You’re overly emotional:  When your emotions are magnified or seem uncontrollable, taking a day to refresh can be key to setting things right — so can getting professional help if you think that isn’t going to be enough.
➢ You’re fighting with everyone:  If you’re becoming more snappy or snarky with the people around you, it may be time to take a day to decompress.
➢ You’re having trouble concentrating:  When a task that would usually take a few minutes ends up taking an hour, or a project you hand in is riddled with mistakes you’d otherwise catch, it could mean you need a break from your daily grind.
➢ You’re feeling physically sick:  Many people experience physiological responses when their mental health needs tuning up. If you feel increased muscle tension, frequent headaches or an upset stomach, it could be tied to your mental wellbeing.
➢ Others notice that you’re not yourself:  If the people around you begin making comments — such as seeing if you need help or asking if you’re doing OK — it may mean it’s time to ask yourself the same questions.

DID YOU KNOW?
If you enjoy stopping at the mirror to admire yourself every now and again, it’s completely understandable. Scientists say that seeing your own face in a mirror, or in a selfie, triggers feelings of pleasure. A study by researchers at Osaka University showed that the image of one’s face can activate reward pathways in the brain. Their research provides new understanding about how our brain enables us to distinguish our own face from those of others, even when the information is presented subconsciously. (I can always tell mine because it’s the one with the hamburger in it…)
