Sweet Sheet!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Tiger King” star Jeff Lowe and his wife, Lauren, were both arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Oklahoma City on the weekend. Lowe is best known for purchasing the exotic animal park formerly owned by Joe Exotic. His DUI comes after his wildlife park was raided last month by federal authorities, who ended up taking away 68 animals, including tigers, lions and jaguars. Lowe and his wife were both booked into the Oklahoma County jail and released shortly afterward.

★ Taraji P. Henson has joined the cast of NBC’s upcoming “Annie Live!” special. She’ll play ‘Miss Hannigan’ — the infamous head of the orphanage where ‘Annie’ lives before she is adopted by ‘Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks’. Henson follows in the footsteps of actresses such as Kathy Bates, Carol Burnett, Cameron Diaz, Jayne Lynch, Nell Carter, Kathie Lee Gifford, and Sally Struthers (to name a few) — all who have played the role in various versions of the classic musical on stage and on screen. As for the title role of Annie, NBC says that the title part has yet to be cast. A nationwide search for a young star is underway. Annie Live! will air December 2 on NBC.

★ Jennifer Lopez and her production company have signed a film and TV deal with Netflix. She’ll star in two upcoming Netflix features, “The Mother” directed by “Mulan” director Niki Caro, and “The Cipher,” which is based on a book by Isabel Ojeda Maldonado. Lopez is currently training ahead of filming The Mother, which is an action film about an assassin who comes out of hiding to teach her daughter how to survive.

★ A “Wedding Crashers” sequel is in development. Reportedly, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are set to reprise their roles as ‘John Beckwith’ and ‘Jeremy Gray’. The new movie is due to begin production in Puerto Rico in August, but it is not yet known if Will Ferrell, Christopher Walken, Bradley Cooper or Jane Seymour will return for the project – although Isla Fisher and Rachel McAdams will be making appearances. The original 2005 film featured Wilson and Vaughn as 2 divorce lawyers who crash weddings in an attempt to seduce women. It was a hit with both critics and audiences.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ed Sheeran – along with Elton John and Brandi Carlile, he was recruited by Courteney Cox to perform a hilarious song for Lisa Kudrow. Cox posted a video showing the 4 sitting at a piano and singing a rendition of John’s hit ‘Tiny Dancer’. But they switched the lyrics to “Tony Danza” in reference the “Friends” episode when Kudrow’s character ‘Phoebe’ insists the most romantic song is “the one that Elton John wrote for that guy on Who’s the Boss? ‘Hold me close, young Tony Danza.'” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ds5t7hbf
• Miley Cyrus — has sang with many different artists, but there’s one that’s still on her bucket list. In an interview with British Vogue, she was asked what artist she would love to collaborate with. Her response: “I love Billie Eilish. I think she’s just the coolest. I love her, her messaging. I’d love to work with her.”
• Eagles — have added 6 new dates to their 2021 “Hotel California Tour”, kicking things off a month earlier than originally scheduled, at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. After 2 dates there Aug. 22 & 24, the band will play a pair of shows each in Boston and Washington, D.C., and then continue as planned through October, when they’ll finish the tour in San Francisco.
• Judas Priest – have announced dates for their rescheduled 50th-anniversary tour. Tickets go on sale Friday for their “50 Heavy Metal Years” tour, which kicks off Sept. 8 in Reading PA, and wraps up on Nov. 5 in Hamilton, ON.
• Bruce Springsteen – His “Springsteen On Broadway” show will return this summer for a limited run at New York’s St. James Theatre. Shows begin June 26 with performances through September 4. The autobiographical show, which ran between Oct. 2017 and Dec. 2018, was a Broadway blockbuster, grossing around $108 million across 236 performances, and winning a Special Tony Award.
• Morrissey – will headline The 2022 Cruel World festival, which was originally slated to take place in 2020. Blondie, Bauhaus, Echo and the Bunnymen, Devo, Violent Femmes, The Psychedelic Furs and dozens more are also on the bill, set for May 14, 2022 in Pasadena, CA at The Rose Bowl.
• Luke Bryan – His “Farm Tour” is returning this fall. His annual trek to rural venues will begin Sept. 9 in Marshall WI, and he says he is “more excited” about it “than any other year” after being forced to cancel last year due to the pandemic. Bryan’s 12th Farm Tour will run through Sept. 18, and will also include stops in Cedar Rapids, IA, Chillicothe IL, Kingman IN, Baltimore OH and Fowlerville MI.
• Jimmie Allen – posted that he met music royalty over the weekend. He uploaded an outdoor shot of himself with his arm around a smiling Elton John, with the words: “Got to hang with this Legend. Such a sweet soul.” Allen didn’t reveal any further details.
• Michael Ray, Lily Rose and Jake Hoot — are among the artists joining the lineup for the 2021 Concert for Love and Acceptance on June 30. Founder Ty Herndon will co-host with CMT’s Cody Alan for the livestream on CMT’s Facebook and YouTube channels. GLAAD, MusiCares, and Nashville’s Oasis Center are beneficiaries of event proceeds.
SHOOTING THE BULL
CORONAUPDATE:
⇒ Scientists believe that COVID-19 pandemic safety measures such as masking and social distancing might have inadvertently resulted in some flu strains going extinct. Since March 2020, researchers haven’t detected 2 previously common strains. Their disappearance is a part of the broader trend of flu cases plummeting during the pandemic. But there’s a catch: Even though scientists haven’t detected the strains in more than a year, they may still be out there. But their disappearance still makes developing flu vaccines easier. That’s because with 2 common strains out of the equation, it makes the decision of which ones to focus on much simpler for vaccine developers. (Oh, good. ANOTHER needle…)
⇒ It turns out that wearing a mask and social distancing really isn’t a waste of time. According to data from the Axios-Ipsos Coronavirus Index, which started in March 2020, those who reported never wearing masks were twice as likely to test positive for COVID as those who said they wore masks all the time. Just 11% of people who reported always wearing masks outside the home tested positive — compared to 23% of those who said they never wore masks. The pattern was similar for social distancing. Just 10% of people who said they kept a six-foot distance from others at all times tested positive for COVID, compared to 26% of people who said they never distanced. (And those are the people that you WANT to be distanced from!)

HOT TIP:
When the sun comes out, the clothes naturally come off – but a top sleep expert says you shouldn’t sleep naked during a heatwave, because it’ll actually make you hotter. Lead Sleep Physiologist at London’s Cromwell Hospital, Julius Patrick, says that when it’s warm, whatever clothing you’re wearing acts as a sponge. If you sleep naked, your sweat actually collects on your body, and remains there. If you’re wearing light clothes, it soaks up any sweat you produce, which cools you off.
(Trust me. Sleeping naked will NOT make me hotter…)
(You should also avoid sleeping naked if you sleepwalk…)
(Well, I know that when I sleep naked, it definitely cools my wife off!)

GUEST WRONG:
As COVID restrictions on meeting indoors ease in many areas, some of us might require a refresher on a few of the finer points involved in being a courteous houseguest. A survey of 2,000 UK residents on visitor no-nos found that the biggest etiquette violation is wiping your greasy hands on someone’s couch. That is followed closely by putting your feet up on the furniture. Other major faux pas, in order, include entering someone’s home without removing your shoes, swearing, and showing up at someone’s place unannounced. Also considered taboo (bodily functions alert!) are passing gas in someone’s home…and uh, stinking up the bathroom. And by the way, asking for the Wi-Fi password is OK…as long as you wait at least 30 minutes after arrival.
(I’m pretty sure my kids’ friends have all these things on a checklist for whenever they visit!)
(Kinda makes you long for the good old days of quarantine, doesn’t it?)
(What else do you say should be on this list?)

SIGNS YOU’RE SMART…(er than average):
➢ You don’t actually believe you’re that smart: The smartest people are so self-aware they might question their skills. The more you know, the more you realize you don’t know. On the other hand, studies have showed that many others THINK they are smarter than they actually are. (Oopsie…)
➢ You understand the power of questions: From staying curious to continuously questioning your own biases and not taking the status quo for granted, this inclination manifests in different ways — but it does mean you’re extra sharp. (OK. I’ll start with this question: “What does ‘manifest’ mean?”)
➢ You have a dirty mouth: A study found that “taboo word fluency” is correlated with having a broad vocabulary. It is also associated with the trait of openness (based on the Big Five personality trait psychology model), which is about being imaginative, curious and open-minded — traits that tend to be shared by geniuses and innovators. (This is NOT what I was taught in Sunday School!)
➢ You’re a night-owl: A study found that evening-types are more likely to score higher on intelligence tests. So, if you needed an excuse to justify your habit of going to bed super late, you might just have found it. (I KNEW I had to be stupid to take this job…)
➢ You’re pretty tall: A 2008 study uncovered a link between height and cognitive ability, finding that taller children score higher than average on cognitive test scores.
➢ You like to crack jokes: Not only are funny people considered more attractive, researchers have also found that the reason a sense of humor is considered desirable is that intelligence is required in order to be funny. (What if I like to crack ‘stupid’ jokes?)

DID YOU KNOW?
The price of a cup of tea could soar as climate change makes India’s monsoon season even more severe, warns a new study. Heavier rains will wash away crops in the country where farming makes up a fifth of the economy. This will put the tea industry at risk by reducing tea yields, as well as reducing the flavor and health benefits, say scientists at Brown University. (Coming soon – “Steeped tea…prices!)
