BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Nick Cannon shared with his talk show audience on Tuesday that his youngest child, Zen, has died. An emotional Cannon said: “Over the weekend I lost my youngest son to a condition called hydrocephalus that was pretty much a malignant, invasive midline brain tumor, brain cancer. It’s tough.” The 5-month-old infant was Cannon’s child with model Alyssa Scott. He has 6 other children from other relationships. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Hydrocephalus is the buildup of fluid in the cavities (ventricles) deep within the brain. The excess fluid increases the size of the ventricles and puts pressure on the brain.”

★ It may be different strokes for different folks, but everyone can agree that the “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” re-creation of “Diff’rent Strokes” was a guest star bonanza. The episode kicked off with a special appearance from Todd Bridges, who played ‘Willis’ on the 8-season sitcom, and is its only surviving original cast member. The re-creation, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear, featured Kevin Hart, Damon Wayans, and John Lithgow in the main roles, and Bridges wasn’t the only special guest star of the night. He was followed by Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men, who offered audiences a live performance of the show’s iconic theme song. They saved the biggest surprise for last, bringing out Snoop Dogg as Willis’ dope-smoking friend ‘Vernon’ during the episode.

★ After decades of being one of the biggest stars on the silver screen, Sylvester Stallone is making the leap to television. He’s signed on for the leading role in “Kansas City”, a new mob drama for Paramount+. The series is built around a New York mobster named ‘Sal’, played by Stallone, who’s forced to relocate to present-day Kansas City, and is faced with the task of re-establishing his Italian Mafia family in the Midwestern city. Sal encounters several surprising and unconventional characters as he forges a path to power. The show, from the creators of “Yellowstone” and “Boardwalk Empire”, will mark Stallone’s first-ever role as a TV series regular in his 5-decade career.

★ “Reading Rainbow” is being revived after a 15-year hiatus. “Reading Rainbow Live,” a new version of the classic kids’ show, is set to launch in 2022. Producers say it will “share the same core values and structure” as the original Reading Rainbow, but with the key difference that it will feature an interactive component that the LeVar Burton-hosted show couldn’t offer. It’ll be hosted by multiple cast members, and will be developed as a ‘life-saver’ response” to the challenges parents are facing with their children learning at home during the pandemic.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele — As her new album makes abundantly clear – she likes wine. So, as a safeguard, her team made sure she doesn’t overshare while tipsy. She says she doesn’t have any passwords to her social media accounts, because “they were worried if I’d get drunk or be annoying”.
• Travis Scott – has filed to have all the civil lawsuits against him over the Astroworld Festival tragedy dismissed. His lawyer asked a judge to dismiss one case “with prejudice,” which would build a strong case towards denying the others as well. Travis’ team says Scott takes no responsibility for the events at his concert, pinning blame on the venue and organizers.
• Justin Bieber — With resellers demanding thousands of dollars for the toques, totes and fanny packs from his enormously popular “TimBiebs” merchandise collaboration with Tim Hortons, the coffee chain says it will be restocking items as soon as possible.
• Rihanna – promises she has new music is coming “soon, soon, soon”. Fans have been waiting for the follow-up to her most recent LP, 2016’s “Anti”, which she has repeatedly teased. She previously said fans can expect a “completely different sound”.
• Neil Young – has no plans to tour any time soon. He told Rolling Stone that his big concern is seeing one of his shows turn into a super-spreader event. Quote: “I don’t want people to see me out there and think I think everything is OK. I don’t think everything is OK.” His most recent show was in Sept., 2019.
• AC/DC – “Back in Black” has topped Rolling Stone Australia’s list of the “200 Greatest Australian Albums of All Time”. The group also appears on the list with “Highway to Hell” at #29, “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” at #60 and “Powerage” at #136.
• The Rolling Stones — performed at a special tribute show for late drummer Charlie Watts, at a small club in London Monday night. Limited to around 200 guests, the concert was hosted by Watts’ granddaughter, Charlotte, and other members of his family. Former Stones bassist Bill Wyman was in attendance, but did not perform with his former bandmates.
• Elvis Presley – “The Piano That Started Rock’n’Roll” is up for sale. During a fateful December, 1956 Sun Records recording session, the “Million Dollar Quartet” featuring The King, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins, recorded a jaw-dropping 46 songs, and Presley played this piano on nearly all of them. Opening bid? $700,000. The auction ends tomorrow at: https://gottahaverockandroll.com/
• Jimmie Allen — will launch his first-ever headlining tour early next year. The 19-date “Down Home Tour” will launch on February 3rd in West Hollywood, CA. Tickets for all dates go on sale tomorrow. Allen’s been sharpening his live performance skills leading up to the headlining jaunt, hitting the road with rapper Nelly and Brad Paisley in recent months.
• Old Dominion – have teased fans on social media that the single ‘No Hard Feelings’ is “Coming to a radio near you soon.” No Hard Feelings is one of the 13-songs on the group’s “Time, Tequila, & Therapy,” and the one that inspired the album’s title. LINK: https://youtu.be/0P9tCqa1Em8
SHOOTING THE BULL
INSTA-GATING CHANGES:
Instagram will now tell users when it’s time to take a break. The company is rolling out a handful of new features aimed at making it harder for users, particularly teenagers, to fall down “rabbit holes” that could be harmful to their mental health. This week, the “Take a Break” tool was launched, which will encourage users to spend some time doing something else, after they’ve been scrolling for a certain period. The feature, which was first announced in September, will first come to users in the United States, the UK, Canada and Australia, and to all other countries in the months ahead. Users can turn on the feature in “Settings” and select if they want to be alerted after using Instagram for 10 minutes, 20 minutes or 30 minutes. They’ll then get a full-screen alert, suggesting they take a deep breath, write something down, check a to-do list or listen to a song.
(30 minutes? Rookies!)
(Is that why I just heard my kid say “Instagram is becoming my Dad”?)
(Well, you DO have to check Twitter at some point!)

TOKE EQUALS WOKE:
A common assumption among marijuana users is that using it helps you sleep. But scientists aren’t quite so sure that’s true. In fact, weed use may actually harm sleep, according to a new study. Research conducted by the University of Toronto has found that adults who use marijuana 20 or more days during the preceding month were 64% more likely to sleep less than 6 hours a night, and 76% more likely to sleep longer than 9 hours a night. Optimal sleep for adults is considered to be 7-8 hours per night. Moderate consumption — using weed less than 20 days during the past month — didn’t create short sleep problems, but people were still 47% more likely to snooze 9 or more hours a night. The scientists point out that both short sleep and long sleep are associated with an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, as well as the long-term progression many other conditions.
(Of COURSE people who use it that often don’t get much sleep…with all the rolling they have to do!)
(Huh. Well, now I know my CBDs…)

PRUNE BOON:
With holiday weight gain a major issue for many (you’ve heard the “fact” that the average person believes they gain about 8 pounds during the holiday season…even if the truth is closer to ONE), a new study claims to have found a secret weapon in the battle to keep your holiday appetite (and your waistline) in check. The good news? It’s a snack. The bad news? It’s prunes. Researchers from the University of Liverpool discovered that eating more prunes helped a group of dieters better control their appetite, consume fewer calories, and even lose slightly more weight than people choosing other snacks during a 12-week test. People who ate prunes (as opposed to those who ate other snacks) generally consumed the fewest number of calories during their next meal. Prune snackers also reported feeling less hungry throughout the day, feeling fuller after eating, and feeling as though they couldn’t eat as much later on.
(Of course they couldn’t eat much later on. They spent the rest of the day in the bathroom!)
(I used to be addicted to prunes. And by that, I mean I just couldn’t go without ‘em…)
(Prunes? Given the choice, I’d take having a big gut over having to snack on prunes!)

On Dec. 1st, the first 2 episodes of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” – season 15 premiered, and in the process, the beloved FX series broke an historic record. The gonzo comedy is now the longest-running live-action TV sitcom… ever. It’s Always Sunny took the title away from “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet”, which ran for 14 seasons between 1952 and 1966. Last December, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was renewed for a total of 4 more seasons, which will eventually bring it to season 18.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Christmas Card Day”, commemorating the first commercial Christmas card, commissioned by Sir Henry Cole in London, England in 1843, which featured a cheery illustration depicting a family with glasses raised in a Christmas toast. It was widely denounced at the time as promoting drunkenness.
• “Anna’s Day” in Sweden and Finland, when it’s time to start the preparation process of the lutefisk to be consumed on Christmas Eve, as well as a Swedish day celebrating all people named ‘Anna’.

• “National Llama Day”, to appreciate this fuzzy animal that’s closely related to the alpaca — and can be trained as a therapy animal. Some fun llama facts:
-They can live as long as 30 years.
-They make great guards because they charge at coyotes or dogs — and often make high-pitched screams at intruders.
-There were more than 150-thousand llamas in the US around 2000. Now, there are just 35,000.
-Their immune systems produce nanobodies, which have potential in COVID-19 treatment.
• “World Techno Day”, techno is a kind of electronic dance music (EDM) that originated in Detroit in the late ‘80s. It is a fusion of dance music and the avant-garde, futuristic sounds from the likes of German electro-pop group Kraftwerk. It is regarded as intellectual and cerebral (but not by your parents!).
