Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ (***UPDATE***) A Florida judge has granted a temporary injunction blocking the release of additional records related to the death investigation of Bob Saget. Saget was found dead in his hotel room in Orlando, Florida, last month. The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that his death was accidental, most likely due to him falling backward and striking his head. Saget’s widow Kelly Rizzo and her 3 daughters had filed suit on Tuesday, requesting that some investigation records related to the death be exempt from being revealed publicly because of their graphic nature in how they portray the late actor.

★ “Spider-Man: No Way Home” has officially unseated “Avatar” to become the third-highest grossing domestic release in US history. After weeks of speculation over whether ‘Peter Parker’ had the legs to bump the people of Pandora from bronze, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” collected the remaining $1 million on Monday to push “Avatar” — and its mighty $760.5 million at the North American box office — to fourth place in the record books. It would require an additional $100 million in domestic ticket sales to catch “Avengers: Endgame” ($858 million) at #2, and even more to match “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($936 million) in first place.

★ Simon Leviev is looking to turn his “Tinder Swindler” fame into his big Hollywood break. He’s already signed with a talent manager, and wants to write a book, star on a dating show and host a dating podcast. Leviev is the subject of the new Netflix documentary in which women — and law enforcement — claim he flaunted a lavish lifestyle to women on Tinder, and once he got them hooked, he would convince them to “loan” him money. When they did, he’d ghost them and allegedly make off with their cash.

★ Warner Bros. is activating the power of the Wonder Twins. They’re a pair of alien siblings named ‘Zan’ and ‘Jayna’ who were introduced to a generation of TV viewers on Hanna-Barbera’s “The All-New Super Friends Hour” as young companions to adult heroes such as ‘Superman’, ‘Batman’ and ‘Wonder Woman’. The duo then appeared in the “Super Friends” comic and, over time, became incorporated into the larger DC universe. Now, Warner has hired Adam Sztykiel, who worked on the upcoming “Black Adam”, to write and direct an original live-action feature for HBO Max, based on the characters. The twins were known for their catchphrase, “Wonder Twin power, activate!”

SHOOTING THE BULL

NO CLEAN SHIRT? NO PROBLEM:
Chocolate and wine – Is there anything they CAN’T do? Scientists say they have created an anti-microbial lining that can wipe out body odor – by using some sweet-smelling chemicals found in chocolate and wine. Researchers at the University of Tokyo say the invention opens the door to making clothes that don’t have to go in the washing machine after each use. The lining they’ve come up with “zaps” underarm sweat, which is what gives garments a nasty odor. It is a combination of silver and plant compounds (polyphenols) called tannins. They are found in many common foods and drinks including tea, coffee, wine, and chocolate. The coating, called AgTA, is both cost-effective and convenient, according to the team, and would remain on an article of clothing for 10 washes before requiring re-application. They say people working from home could continue wearing the same shirt for weeks without stinking it up.
(Challenge accepted!)
(Well, I guess you could do the same at work, if you don’t mind people thinking you only have one shirt!)
(Sounds good. Now – what’s this business about clothing going in the wash every time you wear them?)

SPILLING THE TEA ON TEA:
Put the kettle on. Drinking tea can help relieve the stress caused by the pandemic, according to a new study. According to research from the Tea Advisory Panel, 57% of British tea drinkers said a cup of tea at work helps them connect with colleagues, while 22% added they miss tea breaks in the office when working from home. I’m sure you’re aware that tea is loaded with antioxidants, but this research shows that tea drinking could also aid relaxation and lower stress levels. Co-author of the study Dr. Tim Bond said: “These…findings suggest that tea drinking has wider social ramifications that could impact mental health, which is worthy of future investigation, especially as many of us have suffered huge mental health pressures since the pandemic began.” Previous research has found that both black tea and green tea help aid relaxation, reduce stress levels, and reduce heart health decline. But unlike coffee, tea can act as a pick-me-up without affecting sleep.
(Still, keep this in mind: In order for it to work, you have to drink tea!)
(They think TEA helps you connect with your co-workers? Have any of these people ever tried going out for a beer after work?)

iWATCH APPLE WATCHES:
An Australian health insurance company says people who wear Apple watches show a drastic increase in physical activity. The company, AIA, which gives the fitness tracking watches to members of its AIA Vitality program, reports that people over 50 increased their physical activity by an average of 51% while wearing an Apple Watch. The overall increase across all age groups was a still-impressive 35%. AIA offers those who take out the AIA Vitality program the opportunity to meet movement goals, and see payments for their new watch shrink, possibly making the wearable free. Of course, these results do raise the question of whether the extra movement was thanks to the Apple Watch’s presence or simply an indicator of the lengths that some people will go to get something for free. The company observed a movement increase of 24% among the under-30 crowd, 23% for those in their 30s, and 41% for those in their 40s.
(And what other…uh…vital info were they able to glean from tracking their customers?)
(All my Apple Watch did was make me show a drastic decrease in my bank balance!)
(Maybe so, but I bet they all still look at their phone to tell what time it is!)

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical breakdown of life by the numbers …
• 39% of adults believe they are the best drivers they know.
• 60% of us admit we don’t know our next-door neighbor’s name.
• 33% of us say we’ve made a new friend in the past year.
• 6% of people say they NEVER tip.
• 5% of people who own dishwashers say they never use it.
• 40% of adults say they are currently working at their dream job.
• 22% of us say we can eat a whole pizza ourselves.

DID YOU KNOW?
When it comes to robots, the future is female. A Washington State University researcher has found that people respond better to robots that have “female” characteristics rather than male ones. In a survey, participants reported being more comfortable interacting with female robots in a customer service setting like a hotel. Study author Soobin Seo says this is an increasingly relevant topic, as more and more businesses consider replacing human workers with automated services and artificial intelligence. (That’s why we talk to ‘Siri’, not ‘Sir Siri’!)

BS CHRONOMETER 2.17.22

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “PTA Founders’ Day”, commemorating the parent-teacher association’s 1897 founding. It was originally known as the ‘National Congress of Mothers’. (And all this time, I thought it stood for ‘Parents to Avoid’…my bad!)
• “Random Acts of Kindness Day”, studies show the positive effects on us of doing kind acts for others, as well as receiving or even witnessing kindness. Some suggestions: Compliment a stranger, treat a homeless person to lunch, or anonymously donate to charity. (***See “Today’s Phone Starter”, below***) LINK: https://www.randomactsofkindness.org
• “World Human Spirit Day”, encouraging 2 minutes of silent meditation throughout the world – “and beyond” – to focus on the true spirit that flows through everything. (Wow, groovy.)
• “My Way Day”, in celebration of the phrase “It’s my way or the highway”. The day is believed to have been inspired by key events in the world happening because someone had a bold idea and wasn’t afraid to go through with it. Today, you are encouraged to do whatever you want, however you want. (Finally! I can get a donut with extra sprinkles!)
• “Café au Lait Day”, French for “coffee with milk,” the drink is simply coffee with hot milk added. In Europe, it is either espresso or dark coffee based, and steamed milk is used. In France, it is traditionally served in a white porcelain cup or bowl.
