BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Long-standing daytime talk show “Maury” is coming to an end after 31 years on the air. The series, which is, of course, hosted by Maury Povich, will cease production this spring, but repeats will continue in syndication. Maury began in 1991 as “The Maury Povich Show” with Paramount Domestic Television. In 1998, its title was shortened when production was taken over by what is now known as NBCUniversal. Maury was last renewed 2 years ago through the 2021-2022 TV season. In May, 2016, the show marked its 3,000th episode.

★ Two weeks after starting a fundraiser for the people of Ukraine, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have raised more than $34 million through more than 67,000 donations. The couple thanked their supporters Thursday in a video, when the total was closer to $30 million. The couple said in the caption that they will make sure the money “finds maximum impact with those in need.” Some has already gone to Flexport.org and Airbnb.org, who are providing housing and supplies for the millions affected by Russia’s invasion of the country. ★ Nick Jonas is taking his talents to a new reality competition. He’ll replace Shaquille O’Neal as a judge on NBC’s “Dancing With Myself”, after O’Neal was forced to exit when production was delayed. Jonas will join a judging panel that also consists of Shakira and Liza Koshy. Dancing With Myself features everyday people who will try their hands at dance challenges that will be designed and demonstrated by the judges. Jonas has previously served as a coach on “The Voice”, and is expected to return for Season 22.

★ Disney and Pixar have restored the animation studio’s first same-sex kiss in a feature film. The upcoming movie “Lightyear”, out this June, features the kiss between a character called ‘Hawthorne’ (voiced by Uzo Aduba) and her partner. The same-sex relationship was always a part of the movie and not up for debate, but the kiss itself had been removed in an early edit of the film. The news comes after a letter released by Pixar employees in the wake of Disney’s response to the “Don’t Say Gay” legislation accused the studio of barring them from creating or showing displays of LGBTQ+ intimacy and content. An insider says that in light of the current environment at Disney, a decision was made last week to restore the kiss to the finished film.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Kanye West — The Recording Academy has pulled the plug on his scheduled Grammys performance on April 3. Reportedly, the decision was made due to his recent bout of “concerning online behavior.” Lately, he has repeatedly used his Instagram to take shots at a number of celebrities, including his ex-Kim Kardashian, and her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson. Ye has 5 Grammy nominations.
• Maroon 5 – Adam Levine and wife Behati Prinsloo have listed their sprawling LA estate for $57.5 million. They bought it just over 2 years ago from Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner for $32 million. The 3-acre Pacific Palisades property includes the main house and a 4-bedroom guest house, plus a separate yoga/office and gym — for a total of 10 bedrooms and 14 baths in 16,000 square feet of living space.
• Heart — Ann Wilson says she once offered to front a band made of former Led Zeppelin members, but never received a response. After the group staged a reunion at the O2 Arena in London in 2007, some members wanted to continue, but singer Robert Plant declined. Wilson was interested, but couldn’t get a response. Quote: “I went, ‘I’m here!’ and it was crickets.”
• Aimee Mann – says she has been dropped from Steely Dan’s summer tour. She wrote: “No one is entirely sure why, but it seems they thought their audience wouldn’t like a female singer-songwriter?” Mann dropped the news within one of the cartoons she has recently been posting on Instagram to document her life.
• Liam Gallagher — will release a live album on May 27, the same day he drops a new studio record. “Down By The River Thames” is a recording of his show which was originally streamed live during lockdown. Quote: “As we were in lockdown, bored and depressed, rock ‘n’ roll came to save the day once again. It was a top night and a top gig and it’s captured here on record for you to all enjoy.”
• U2 — A scripted series about the group is in early development at Netflix. J.J. Abrams (“The Force Awakens”) is attached to executive produce, and “Bohemian Rhapsody” writer Anthony McCarten will handle the script.
• Carrie Underwood – Friday, she released the new single ‘Ghost Story’, which she calls “a different take on a revenge song.” She explained that “Instead of smashing headlights, this scorned lover is letting her ex know that she will continue to haunt him no matter how hard he tries to forget her.” LINK: https://youtu.be/4Y7flhznvnE
• Morgan Wallen — has announced his first-ever headlining stadium gig. He’ll play Globe Life Field in Arlington TX on Oct. 8, along with openers Hardy, Mike Ryan and Jake Worthington. The show is an addition to Wallen’s ongoing “Dangerous Tour”.
• High Valley – dropped the new single ‘Somebody Tell That Girl’ on Friday, featuring Christian breakout artist Anne Wilson. The group’s 6th studio album “Way Back” will be released on May 20.

SHOOTING THE BULL

NETFLIX: CHILL:
So, it turns out that Netflix may be aware that some people share their password. And you might soon have to pay to do so. The streamer has been working on ways to “enable members who share outside their household to do so easily and securely, while also paying a bit more,” according to a blog post last week. Over the next 2 weeks, Netflix will be testing features in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru called “Extra Member” and “Profile Transfer.” With “Extra Member,” subscribers can pay to add an account for up to 2 people they don’t live with. These “extra” members will have regular Netflix access, including their own profile and login, at a discounted rate of about $3 US. Separately, the “Profile Transfer” option lets subscribers transfer their profile info — namely their watch history and recommendations — to a new account, which would make it easier for password moochers to start paying for their own plans.
(Actually, if you’re still on your ex’s or parent’s account … it’s probably time to switch anyway!)
(I’d better borrow another friend’s password, just in case they cancel the one I’m using now!)

(Brace yourselves, BS’ers . . . happiness overload coming up!)
NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ Despite the devastating loss of life and growing uncertainty that have the world very much on edge, there is some good news in the UN’s World Happiness Report: Benevolence is surging globally. That’s one of the key findings of the research done by the agency’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network, that draws on survey data from people in about 150 countries. It found substantial increases in all 3 forms of benevolence that are asked about in the poll. Donating to charity, helping a stranger and volunteering, “especially to help strangers” were all up by about 25% in all regions of the world, compared with pre-pandemic levels, according to the report. (Which bodes well for (***Afternoon guy***), ‘cause he’s as strange as they get!)
➢ With the price of gas near record highs, some people have made the effort to help those feeling pinched at the pumps. Drivers in Burnsville NC were able to gas up for just $2.25 a gallon one day last week, much less than the state average of $4.12. The gas station owners said they wanted to help people during this difficult time, so they took a loss and dropped their prices until they ran out. And Chicago businessman Willie Wilson donated $200,000 in free gas across the city. Gas stations were backed up as grateful motorists filled their tanks for free on Thursday. In all, about 4,000 vehicles were filled. Each station also agreed lower their gasoline prices during the event to allow more families to benefit from Wilson’s generosity. Oh, and this Thursday? Same plan . . . except he’s giving away $1 million worth.

SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN WAYS TO STAY HAPPY:
✓ Exercise more:  You knew we were going there. Exercising releases good mood endorphins so you are always happier after a workout or a simple nice walk to the store.
✓ Positive thinking:  It raises energy levels, creativity and productivity by as much as 30%.
✓ Treasure experiences:  Spending on experiences provides longer lasting happiness than spending on possessions.
✓ Write it down:  Feeling and thinking about why you are grateful helps stave off negative thoughts. Keep a journal . . . or use social media if you like (God knows we could use some positivity there!).
✓ Practice mindfulness:  Concentrate and pay full attention to the present moment and accept it in a non-judgmental way. This can boost mood, reduce stress levels, and lead to a better quality of life.
✓ Beauty sleep:  When you don’t get enough sleep, negativity takes over big time.
✓ Help others:  Research shows that when we dedicate a little time or money to helping others, it has a significant effect on our own happiness.
✓ Focus on strengths:  Whether you are curious, open-minded or brave, use those traits to improve your life and that of others, rather than dwelling on weaknesses. Realizing our full potential is one of the best ways to find happiness . . . and to make the world a better place.

DID YOU KNOW?
Mike Tyson’s weed company is selling edibles in the shape of an ear. In a nod to the infamous 1997 ring incident when the boxer got a mouth-full of Evander Holyfield’s ear, Tyson, who has been selling cannabis products since 2016, is now marketing “Mike Bites”, ear-shaped edibles with a bite mark at the top of the gummy, exactly where Tyson took off a piece of Holyfield’s cartilage. Tyson gave the product personal approval, responding to a tweet about the new product by writing, “THESE ears actually taste good!” Tyson is believed to earn about $1 million per month through his cannabis brand Tyson 2.0.
