BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Kelsey Grammer is teasing the long-awaited “Frasier” revival could begin shooting this fall. ViacomCBS officially greenlit the Paramount+ series last February. In an appearance on “The Talk” yesterday, Grammer said: “There were some conversations about (shooting in) October, maybe a little later. There are a couple of other things coming up.” Grammer confirmed they’re “in the final stages of the final script for the first episode of the Frasier reboot and it looks pretty good…I’ve had a couple of runs through it, and I cried, so you know, I’m happy.” He played ‘Dr. Frasier Crane on the original series, which ran from 1993-2004. No word on when the reboot might premiere.

★ It seems that Amber Heard is trying to find a way to avoid appealing her defamation trial against her ex-husband Johnny Depp. The “Aquaman” actress is asking a judge to toss the jury’s verdict and grant her another trial due to a lack of evidence and an alleged fake juror. Last week, Heard’s legal team filed new legal documents in Virginia, asking a judge to either set aside the jury’s ruling for Depp, dismiss the complaint, or order a completely new trial. Among other things, Heard’s legal team is arguing that one of the members of the jury summoned to court is not the person who actually showed up, and the court didn’t do its due diligence in vetting its members.

★ For the first time in about a year, we’ve got some major concrete news out of Avatar Studios. The newly-created animation studio has announced 3 new movie spinoffs of “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Nickelodeon announced the establishment of Avatar Studios in 2021 with plans to create new TV shows, movies and other stories in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. After about a year of silence, sources there gave some updates, saying there are 3 animated movies on the way, all executive produced by series creators Bryan Koneitzko and Michael DiMartino as well as showrunner Eric Coleman. The studios also confirmed that veteran artist Lauren Montgomery will direct the first Avatar Studios movie, which is scheduled to premiere in theaters in 2024.

★ Chris Hemsworth has joined TikTok. The “Thor: Love and Thunder” star posted his first video on Saturday, and he already had 600,000 followers as of Sunday. For his first video, he shared some moments from last month’s world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, where he and his costars signed autographs, took selfies and greeted fans. In the caption, he plugged his movie, of course, writing: “Sydney fans! LA fans! Love you guys! #ThorLoveAndThunder opens Wed in Aus and Fri in the US. Preorder tickets now…Oh and hi TikTok……!” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yaumj2ab

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Drake – joined Backstreet Boys on stage in Toronto on Saturday night. “Kim’s Convenience” actor Andrew Phung tweeted video of the rapper with the band while they sang their 1999 hit ‘I Want It That Way’, with lines from Drake’s ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ blended in. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4pxbx5c3
• Demi Lovato – debuted a jaw-dropping new look on TikTok over the weekend. In the clip, Lovato is seen rocking a sleek bob and bangs alongside stunning makeup, with text reading: “Working on something for ya’ll,” and a snippet of their upcoming song ‘Substance’ (out July 15) in the background. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y8f7ary8
• Travis Barker – The Blink-182 drummer is feeling “much better”. He wrote on Instagram Stories: “I went for an endoscopy on Monday feeling great. But after dinner, I developed excruciating pain and have been hospitalized ever since.” He revealed that he had a small polyp removed, which damaged a critical pancreatic drainage tube, resulting in “severe life-threatening pancreatitis.”
• Fugees – partially reunited once again as Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean made a surprise appearance Friday night at the Essence Festival in New Orleans. Midway through Wyclef’s unannounced set, Hill emerged onstage to perform ‘Killing Me Softly’ solo before being joined by her Fugees bandmate on ‘How Many Mics’, ‘Fu-Gee-La’ and ‘Ready or Not’.
• Poison – In a video, Bret Michaels thanked fans for their support after he returned to the “Stadium Tour” despite not being fully recovered from his recent hospitalization. The Sat. show in Jacksonville FL. went ahead, although Poison performed a short 7-song set. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4vamu6n4
• Luke Combs – spoke candidly about his weight in a new interview. Combs told Apple Music 1 that he has long felt uncomfortable with his body, but the birth of his son Tex Lawrence with wife Nicole on June 19 promoted him to reassess his priorities. Quote: “I got to this point where I’m like, man, I’d really love to trim down. And it’s so hard for me to do that.”
• Luke Bryan – If you’re wondering what exactly the title of his new summer anthem ‘Country On’ means, he’s got an answer for you. In an interview, he said: “For me to keep country on, I think it’s ‘Hey Luke, keep smiling, keep smiling, keep shining.’…keep doing what I do and staying true to what I do, and …hopefully spreading a lot of happiness and love and positivity and fun and being me.”
• Brian Kelley — Just in time for Fourth of July celebrations, he released a new patriotic song titled ‘American Spirit’. The solo offering from the Florida Georgia Line member radiates red, white and blue pride while paying tribute to the men and women who have sacrificed so much for it. SHOOTING THE BULL

PHONE HANG-UP:
Have you ever decided that you’re spending way too much time on your smartphone, and as a way to avoid being distracted, switched it to “silent” mode? It turns out that’s a bad idea. Researchers from Penn State University found in a study that people checked their phones more often when their devices were set to silent. When the phone’s sound and vibration was on, the groups checked their devices 53 times daily, on average. With phones on silent, that average rate nearly doubled to 98 times a day. Notably, participants who scored high in “fear of missing out” and “need to belong” personality tests checked their phones the most after placing them on silent. In some cases, these people stayed on their phones for longer as well. The research team says their work suggests there is no “one size fits all” solution to overcoming the growing societal problems of smartphone distraction…and obsession.
(I recently managed to go a whole day without checking my smartphone. Serves me right for sitting on my reading glasses!)
(Well, you could try telling people that they HAVE to check it…)

SCENT TO THE STORE:
What’s one of the first things you see when you walk into your friendly-neighborhood grocery store? It’s such a common sight, that you might not even consciously notice it anymore, but most likely, you’ll see flowers. Big, bright bouquets of fresh-cut blooms. That’s no coincidence, according to Paco Underhill, founder and CEO of behavioral research and consulting firm Envirosell. He says: “If you can get someone’s nose and saliva glands working, they become a much less disciplined shopper.” Sure, flowers are pretty, and the store can make money by selling them, but they also fire up the senses, which gets you ready to spend. And as you get closer, your nose picks up on their aroma, signalling freshness and telling your brain “This place has good stuff.” Psychologically, your brain says: “If this store can manage fresh flowers and sell them, it isn’t going to sell me stale food.” According to Underhill, that’s one way stores indirectly influence your behavior and encourage you to part more readily with your money. Holiday music is another effective strategy. Psychologists call the effect “misattribution” — you’re in a good mood and ready to shell out for the holiday season, not fully realizing that it’s because of the music and twinkly lights.
(A good mood, unless they’re playing ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’, again, of course!)
(And I thought they put the flowers at the front door as a public service for dudes in case it might be their anniversary!)

FINDERS KEEPERS:
What would you do if you checked your bank account and found you had mistakenly been paid 300 times your normal salary? That’s what happened to an unnamed staff member at a Chile food processing company, and he decided to take the money and run. When the employee at a Consorcio Industrial de Alimentos discovered he had been paid nearly US $181,500 for a month’s work instead of the usual $545, he initially raised the eye-watering overpayment with his manager, who contacted HR. The worker agreed to return the cash after visiting the bank the following day. But instead of giving it back, the man withdrew it — and hasn’t been seen since. His employer was unable to contact the man, and later received word from his lawyer, saying that the man had resigned. Consorio has contacted police.
(…who have advised them to kiss their cash goodbye!)
(I’m guessing that the company lost TWO employees that day…)
(Some day, he’ll pay for this…but the good thing is…he can afford it!)

HOW MUCH SLEEP YOUR PET NEEDS, ACCORDING TO THE EXPERTS:
Sleep patterns depend on the breed and age of your pet, but here’s a rundown…
➠ Dogs: 12-14 hours per night, with older dogs and younger puppies being able to sleep for even longer. (And snore for even longer…)
➠ Cats:  The average cat needs 16-20 hours of sleep per 24 hours. (And once again, mine’s above average…)
➠ Rabbits: Like humans, rabbits need around 8½ hours of sleep. But they tend to sleep with their eyes open, so sometimes they can fool you…
➠ Hamsters:  Need 12-14 hours of sleep each night, which is usually broken up over short periods of time.
➠ Tortoises:  They can sleep for up to 12 hours each day. Babies? Up to 22 hours.
➠ Snakes:  Most spend about 16 hours sleeping. They don’t have eyelids, so sometimes they’re sleeping when you don’t even realize it. (And if the snake gets out of its cage, NO ONE is sleeping!)
➠ Parrots:  They need about 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness nightly. (And let’s face it, you’ve NEVER wondered how long a parrot sleeps before right now, have you?)
(My cat, who also claims to be an expert on the subject, insists that at least 23 hours of sleep is mandatory. 24 when we change the clock!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Canada will require that companies add warnings to the front of pre-packaged food with high levels of saturated fat, sugar or sodium, starting in 2026. Health Canada says the labels are meant to help consumers make healthier choices, as those nutrients have been linked to conditions such as obesity, stroke, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain types of cancer. The new labels will complement, rather than replace, the more detailed nutrition information that’s typically on the back of food packaging.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Graham Cracker Day”, saluting the wafer developed in 1829 by Presbyterian minister Sylvester Graham, who believed consumption of graham flour suppressed “carnal urges”. What’s the best use for graham crackers? Pie crust? S’mores? Moon pies? (Anti-aphrodisiac?)
• “Workaholics Day”, a day to remove your nose from the grindstone … just once. (As Rodney Dangerfield said, “My old man was a workaholic. You mentioned work, he got drunk.”)
• “Bikini Day”, celebrating the July 5, 1946 unveiling of the landmark swimsuit by designer Louis Reard at a Paris press conference, which he described as ‘4 triangles of nothing’. The bikini is named after a tiny Pacific atoll (ring-shaped reef) where the first atomic bomb tests were performed earlier that week.
• “Apple Turnover Day”, also called hand pies because they are so portable, the pastry is made by placing apple filling on a piece of dough, folding the dough over, sealing it, then baking them. Although most turnovers are baked, they can also be fried.
• “Mechanical Pencil Day”, created by Cult Pens, after the pen and pencil purveyor noticed there was a “Fountain Pen Day,” but not a day for mechanical pencils. They decided on July 5th because it is written as 7/5 or 5/7. The most common mechanical pencil lead sizes are 0.5 mm and 0.7 mm.
