Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
(***Caution — language***) ★ James Corden is welcome at New York City’s Balthazar restaurant again. Owner Keith McNally said the late-night talk show host apologized to him after McNally slammed Corden for his alleged behavior in the restaurant. Alongside a photo of Corden on Instagram, McNally wrote: “James Corden just called me and apologized profusely. Having f—ed up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances.” He had called out “The Late Late Show” host for his alleged behavior at Balthazar’s New York location and at Cafe Luxembourg, calling him “A hugely gifted comedian, but a tiny Cretin of a man. And the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago.” In his newest post, McNally continued: “Anyone magnanimous enough to apologize to a deadbeat layabout like me (and my staff) doesn’t deserve to be banned from anywhere. Especially Balthazar.”

★ Former British Prime Minister John Major has slammed “The Crown” amid backlash over the Netflix series’ historical inaccuracies. Major, who served as PM from 1990-97, will feature as a central character in the show’s upcoming season 5. Major will be played by Jonny Lee Miller, with an episode set to show him meeting with Prince Charles, played by Dominic West. During their closed-door chat, Charles allegedly lobbies for Major to force Queen Elizabeth II to abdicate so that he can ascend to the throne. Of the show’s incendiary scenes, Major told the Mail: “They are fiction, pure and simple, adding that no such meeting ever took place. His office took it a step further, saying that the scenes “should be seen as nothing other than damaging and malicious fiction — a barrel-load of nonsense” for “dramatic impact.”

★ Welcome to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Harrison Ford! The “Star Wars” star will take the role of ‘General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross’ in “Captain America: New World Order”, following weeks of rumors. Anthony Mackie, who recently took over Captain America’s shield in the Disney+ series in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is set to star in the 4th untitled “Captain America” movie. Ford takes over his role from William Hurt, who passed away earlier this year. Julius Onah will direct the film, which is scheduled for release May 3, 2024.

★ ABC’s “Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration” has found its ‘Lumière’, ‘Cogsworth’ and ‘Mrs. Potts’. Martin Short, “In Living Color’s” David Alan Grier and Shania Twain have signed on for those roles, and that’s not all. Rounding out the ensemble cast are Rizwan Manji (“Schitt’s Creek”) as Gaston’s loyal sidekick ‘LeFou’, Jon Jon Briones (“Ratched”) as Belle’s father ‘Maurice’; and Leo Abelo Perry (2022’s “Cheaper by the Dozen”), playing Mrs. Potts’ son ‘Chip’. The 2-hour reimagining of the beloved story of “Beauty and the Beast” will be taped in front of a live audience and will air Dec. 15 on ABC, with next-day viewing on Disney+.

• Morgan Wallen — took to social media hours after the Volunteers’ football win on Sat. to share footage of his time at the big game, which was soundtracked to a new, unreleased song. SHOOTING THE BULL

‘CHAIN’ REACTION:
‘Bike buses’ are the latest – and some say greatest – way to get to school. The group bike rides allow families to ditch cars for a morning ride with friends, covering miles in organized clusters led by grown-up volunteers. The effort is a way to combat climate change, encourage exercise and reduce school drop-off traffic. And, according to both parents and kids, it also makes for happier students. The bike rides, which make stops to pick up others along the route, similar to what a school bus does, are growing in popularity in several US cities, and are already a thing in other countries, such as Spain and Canada. Scooters are also welcome in bike buses, which are led and trailed by adult supervisors. One organizer notes that kids get to spend time with their friends during their morning commute, and they like the freedom and independence that bikes provide.
(Good idea, but…uh…do they still hit the drive-thru?)
(Great idea…except on picture day!)

‘CHECK OUT’ THE RESULTS:
You know the routine: You’re at the supermarket cash register, already horrified at how much you’re paying to feed your family for a week, and the smiling cashier cheerfully asks if you’d like to add a buck or 2 to support that month’s worthwhile charity. Well, contrary to the common belief that shoppers feel good about making donations at checkout, new research says it actually heightens your anxiety.  University of Dayton and Ohio University researchers interviewed 60 shoppers, asking them to describe what they felt when they were asked to donate while ringing up their purchases at a variety of retailers. About 40% of the words that these customers used expressed negative feelings associated with anxiety such as “pressured,” “annoyed” and “concerned about being judged.” 7% conveyed other negative sentiments, including “guilty” or “bad.” The rest were neutral, such as “indifferent.” Only about 20% of the words participants used to describe their feelings were positive, such as “nice” or “compassionate.”
(The price of butter and beef is giving me a lot more anxiety these days than an extra dollar at the cash register!)
(Keep in mind, though, that if you asked those who benefit from your donation, I’m pretty sure you’d get a 100% positive response!)

GET GAS:
One of the hottest apps out there right now is the result of someone coming up with a CRAZY social media concept: People actually saying nice things to each other. “Gas” is a question-and-answer app aimed at teenagers, that, upon its release in August, became the top downloaded social media app in the Apple App Store…even though it was only available in 12 states. Gas users anonymously answer multiple choice poll questions, like “Who is most likely to dress up as the poop emoji for Halloween?” and “(Who) Bodies every new sport they try,” which feature their friends as the answer options—the app calls this getting “gassed up.” App users collect coins for answering poll questions, which allow them to unveil who answered certain questions about them. There is no ability to direct message other users. According to the app’s developers, Gas’s mission is to “create a place that makes us feel better about ourselves.”
(A POSITIVE social media app? Great idea. It’d never fly with adults, though…)
(So, you’re telling me it WAS #1 on the App Store, but then someone else ‘passed gas’?)

BEST HALLOWEEN EPISODES TO WATCH:
If you start on Friday, you’ve got 10 evenings to watch 10 classically-creepy Halloween shows before the big night. Or just do what I’m going to do, and binge-watch them all tonight…
✪ Parks and Recreation – ‘Halloween Surprise’:  Leslie in a Rosie the Riveter costume. Jerry has a heart attack. Ron takes his girlfriend’s daughters trick-or-treating. And Ben proposes to Leslie.
✪ The Office – ‘Halloween’:  Jim pretends to be Michael to torture Dwight. Michael dresses up as a 2-headed version of himself and fires a guy who smashes a pumpkin on Michael’s car. Oh, and Dunder Mifflin downsizes…while everyone is dressed in costumes.
✪ The Simpsons – ‘Treehouse of Horror V’:  One of their best, a parody of “The Shining” named “The Shinning.” It features James Earl Jones voicing an alternate universe Maggi.
✪ Boy Meets World – ‘And Then There Was Shawn’:  A parody of teen slasher films, where the gang is locked in school detention when a series of eerie events happen, including the deaths of Mr. Feeny, a janitor, and a fellow student. Plus Jennifer Love Hewitt appears!
✪ Buffy The Vampire Slayer – ‘Fear, Itself’:  All the characters confront their worst fears during a Halloween party. Coincidentally, the mansion used as a fraternity house was also used in the first season of American Horror Story.
✪ Freaks and Geeks – ‘Tricks and Treats’:  There are countless priceless moments in this episode, one of only 18 made of the short-lived beloved series.
✪ American Horror Story – ‘Halloween’:  Ghosts take over the Murder House, which becomes hell for Ben and Vivien. The episode was written by “X-Files” veterans James Wong and Tim Minear.
✪ Friends – ‘The One With The Halloween Party’:  Surprisingly, it’s Friends’ only Halloween episode. Featuring a guest appearance from Sean Penn, it centers on an arm-wrestling competition, with Chandler dressed as the Easter bunny and Ross as “Spud-Nik.” Phoebe is Catwoman, and Monica is Supergirl.
✪ Modern Family – ‘Halloween’:  Claire tries to turn the Dunphy home into a haunted house. But in typical Modern Family fashion, everything goes wrong. (Blame Phil, as usual…)
✪ Roseanne – ‘Boo’: Halloween episodes became central to this show’s identity. “Boo” was the Roseanne’s first Halloween special and showed just how outrageous the Conners could get. (And then the star showed us how outrageous she could get in real life!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Britain’s weirdest Halloween attraction is a salvage yard that’s been transformed into a graveyard featuring 15,000 mannequins. Roz Edwards set up her business buying and restoring dummies, then selling them to stores and hiring them out for TV shows. But when people began telling her how creepy her bizarre collection of mannequins was, she decided to open it up for Halloween. Last year she transformed the site into a ghoulish cemetery scene. This year? An immersive Clue-style game experience. Visitors pay $17 for the horror walk, during which they have to solve clues to figure out which suspect is behind a grisly murder. Photos show limbless mannequins and random body parts scattered across the site, plus dummies arranged in sinister poses, with some dressed up as terrifying clowns and other eerie characters.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Evaluate Your Life Day”, a time to “sit back and reflect on your contribution to humanity, and see if you’re really heading toward where you want to be”. (I WOULD make a joke here about my life, but my life beat me to it…)
• “Dress Like a Dork Day”, all you need to do is slick back your hair, get out the plaid polyester pants, hideous shirt, suspenders, white knee socks, and your favorite dickey. Add horn-rimmed glasses fixed with masking tape, a fanny pack, and a pocket protector — and you’re good to go! (Just another day at the office for me…)
• “International Pronouns Day”, to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace, because referring to people by the pronouns they prefer is basic to human dignity. LINK: https://pronounsday.org/
• “New Friends Day”, it’s all about making room for new connections in your life, and celebrating the potential for friendship everywhere you go. Research shows that strong social support is a key to living your happiest, most fulfilled life. So, get out there and add some new friends…and I don’t mean on Facebook!
• “Seafood Bisque Day”, celebrating the smooth, creamy, and highly-seasoned soup of French origin. Based on a strained broth of crustaceans, it’s made with lobster, crab, or shrimp.
• “Gin and Tonic Day”, substantially a British drink for the longest time, a G&T is a staple cocktail with a high level of bitterness, but it dies down with lime and sugar to make it palatable for most people.
