BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Tom Brady and Kim Kardashian both dropped $2 million at a charity auction for Jay-Z, Meek Mill and Michael Rubin’s Reform Alliance gala on Saturday night. Brady and Kardashian were among a roomful of VIP guests at an all-star blackjack party in Atlantic City to raise funds for the charity. During auction, a painting by artist George Condo came up for sale, and when Brady and Kardashian each bid $2 million, the artist agreed to create another work for Kardashian as a commission. Also up for sale was the jersey that Brady wore when he completed his 700th NFL touchdown in 2021, which he claimed he never even washed. It went for $1.2 million, and came with a dinner with Brady.

★ ABC’s gamble on “The Golden Bachelor” appears to be paying off. The spinoff ’s premiere garnered a larger audience than the last premiere of “The Bachelor.” The show, which chronicles 72-year-old Gerry Turner’s look for love with women in the same age group, pulled in 4.36 million viewers for its premiere on Thursday. That marks a 47% increase over the ratings for the Season 27 premiere of The Bachelor in January. It’s also the most-viewed of any of the same-day audiences for any version of the Bachelor franchise since the March 2022 After the Final Rose episode.

★ Beyoncé is in final talks to release her recent “Renaissance” tour as a concert film through AMC Theatres, according to reports. The release is tentatively set for wide release on Dec. 1 and will reportedly include parts of her live shows, her “Renaissance” visual album, and a look at both the making of the album and the tour. This follows megastar Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” heading to the AMC chain on Oct. 13. The “Renaissance” album was released in 2022, but she has yet to drop the “visual album” music videos she’s had in the works.

Audience reception for “Paw Patrol 2” has been strong, earning it an A on CinemaScore and an 80% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. ★ Travis Barker, who is preparing to welcome his first child with Kourtney Kardashian, has shared that he recently suffered from an episode of trigeminal neuralgia, a disorder that causes severe facial pain. The Blink-182 drummer wrote on X: “Last week I had covid, an episode of trigeminal neuralgia, and a root canal. Which means I can pretty much handle anything god throws at me.” The 47-year-old has been open about his battle with the disorder, noting in 2017 that he recommends acupuncture for others suffering from the condition. ★ Despite the fact that he’s a beloved movie star known all over the world, Robert Pattinson has the same self-doubts and anxieties that many of us share. “The Batman” star revealed that side of himself in a recent interview with comedian Jordan Firstman. Pattinson said: “I’m constantly thinking that you’re just going to spend the vast majority of your life unemployed and desperate and kind of feeling like you’re a total failure.” When Firstman responded: “If Robert Pattinson is saying that, there is no hope for anyone to ever be satisfied”, Pattinson elaborated, explaining he feels that way due to the sporadic nature of being a working actor, where a job lasts, at most, 3 months, which he called “the most stressful thing in the world.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

SCARY STATS:
Up until this year, Pink was never considered a Halloween color. But according to the National Retail Federation in the US, ‘Barbie’ will be the third-most-popular Halloween costume for adults this year—behind only witches and vampires. And if that isn’t enough evidence of a “Barbiecore” Halloween, it’ll also be the #7 most-popular costume among kids. Other revelations from the NRF survey…
• Total Halloween spending (in the US) will reach a record $12.2 billion, exceeding last year’s record of $10.6 billion. That’s an average of $108.24 per consumer, also a record.
• $4.1 billion will be spent on costumes, while $3.6 billion will go toward candy. $3.9 billion will be spent on decorations, and $0.5 billion will be spent on . . . greeting cards?
• A record 73% of people will participate in Halloween-related activities this year, up from 69% in 2022.
• Most popular costumes for adults, in order: Witch, Vampire, Barbie, Batman, Cat, Zombie, Pirate, Princess, Ghost, Spiderman
• For kids: Spiderman, Princess, Ghost, Superhero, Witch, Batman, Barbie, Zombie, Mario, Wednesday Adams
• …and for pets: Pumpkin, Hot Dog, Bat, Bumblebee, Spider
(What? No Barbie costumes for pets?)
(Rookies! My family has spent $100 on candy already – and we haven’t even bought for trick-or-treaters yet!)

WELLNESS CHECK:
☞ 52% of people polled agree that taking “self-care” days off work are only temporary fixes, and we should instead practice smaller daily habits. 36% of those surveyed said they make it a top or high priority to practice self-care every day by doing things like staying hydrated (48%), having a positive mindset (46%), going outside (43%) and getting quality sleep (36%). One-quarter of all respondents said they don’t have time for self-care on a regular basis. Why? Being preoccupied with household chores and responsibilities as the most common reason given, followed by caring for family, and work. (I don’t believe in taking self-care days off work either. Who wants a week where you get the “Sunday Scaries” twice?)
☞ A new initiative will see healthcare professionals prescribing their patients a visit to the Toronto Zoo as part of their mental and physical wellness needs. The program was launched last week in a partnership between the zoo and PaRx, an initiative of the BC Parks Foundation that has seen more than 11,000 healthcare providers give so-called “nature prescriptions” to their patients since 2020. Patients who present their PaRx prescription will get 50 per cent off the regular admission price. The Toronto Zoo is the first facility of this kind in Canada to take part in the program. (Just what the Dr. Dolittle ordered?)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ Now, THIS would be something: Curing cancer could someday be as easy as a few taps on your phone, according to Rice University scientists, who have received $45 million in funding for a new, implant-based treatment system that could cut cancer death rates by 50%. The funds, from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, will be used to develop “sense-and-respond implant technology,” with the aim to improve the outcomes of immunotherapy treatments for cancers that are usually difficult to treat. The plan is to implant patients with a small device that continuously monitors their cancer — and adjusts their immunotherapy dose in real time, rather than traditional treatments involving IV bags and external monitors…and a patient confined to a hospital bed. Researchers hope that the implant will only be needed for short-term use — eradicating the cancer in as little as 60 days.
➢ Brian Schwartz wants to mow your lawn. The man has pull-started an international kindness movement after losing his job due to the pandemic, simply as a means of making a positive impact in the world. He started a volunteer lawn care organization to help seniors, the disabled, and veterans mow their lawns, trim their hedges, and cut back their trees. And he does it all for free. While the “I Want to Mow Your Lawn” movement sprouted its grassroots in New Jersey, it has spread internationally, meaning Schwartz now oversees over 500 volunteers in 46 states, with similar organizations springing up in Australia, the UK, and Canada. I Want To Mow Your Lawn and its volunteers have spruced up over 2,000 lawns, and the organization has recently expanded to include sustainable garden planning, such as installing rock gardens, native gardens, and switching to battery-operated equipment. (And I can’t find a kid around here who I can PAY to cut my grass!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n96e486

WORST-RATED TOURIST SITES:
…according to a ranking of 99 global tourist attractions, using Google reviews, quality of local accommodations, distance from the closest international airport, tourist safety, and, of course, TikTok popularity:
4. Busch Gardens, Florida (4.52 out of 10): Even though it welcomes around 4 million visitors a year to the animal-themed park, it was poorly-rated for its second-rate accommodations.
3. Taj Mahal, India (3.83): The massive mausoleum of white marble — built in the 1600s — is one of the most admired pieces of architecture in the world, but some argue it’s not be worth the trip. It is a whopping 219km (136miles) from the closest airport.
2. Grand Bazaar, Turkey (3.48): It may be one of the world’s oldest shopping malls, but just like other malls, it seems many shoppers aren’t interested. Concerns included a higher tourist safety score.
1. Hollywood Walk of Fame, California (3.42): The famous attraction, along 18 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, was called in one write-up: “grubby and slightly scary!” It also received the lowest Google Reviews score. (Probably because of David Spade’s star!)
The rest of the top-10, in order: Lotte World, South Korea; Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong; Ocean Park, Hong Kong; Fushimi Inari Taisha, Japan; Great Wall of China; Everland, South Korea

DID YOU KNOW?
If reports are to be believed, you may one day soon be driving an Apple iCar. Although still a top-secret initiative, those in the know say the prototype electric vehicle being developed by the tech company will obviously be running on Apple’s iOS. It will be autonomous (self-driving), and more of a cruiser-type than a performance vehicle. Naturally, you’d be able to start your iCar via your iPhone, using Apple’s Carplay system. And it has supposedly also leaked that the vehicle will likely be within the same price range as the Tesla Model X — around US$100,000. (And every time you install an update, you can expect battery issues…)
