BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ A new report says that the issues between Ben Affleck and J-Lo may be professional as well as personal. A source close to Lopez told UK’s The Sun that Affleck has been “butting heads” with Lopez’s creative team, because he is not happy about some of the projects his wife has committed to in recent years. The source said: “Ben feels Jen needs to overhaul her career and have a better team behind her.” Affleck is said to be frustrated that J-Lo is “doing a lot of mediocre projects and is surrounded by yes people who are also sometimes making decisions for her.”

★ Zoe Kravitz and Channing Tatum have booked their wedding for next year, according to father-of-the-bride Lenny Kravitz. The couple are believed to have become engaged in October, after 2 years of dating. Now, her dad Lenny has revealed his daughter is planning to walk down the aisle in 2025. Speaking on the “Zoe Ball and Friends” podcast, Lenny explained: “They’re in love. We’re going to have a wedding next year.” He spoke warmly of “Magic Mike” star Tatum, calling him “charming” and “soulful”, and said: “he’s become part of the family quite quickly.”

★ The end may be near for ‘Eddie Brock’ and ‘Venom’s’ relationship. The first trailer for “Venom: The Last Dance” is out, and it reveals the new threat facing the duo — Venom’s home planet. The Last Dance trailer opens with Eddie and Venom easily disposing of goons before learning that not only are they up against a massive, symbiote alien from Venom’s home planet, they are also being hunted by government agents, forcing them to become fugitives. A voice ominously says: “As long as Venom lives, Everyone… Everything… Will end.” The gravity of the situation is not lost on Eddie, who admits, “We may not make it out of this alive, buddy.” Venom: The Last Dance hits theaters Oct. 25. ★ “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” is changing things up for season 14, due to friction on set. For the first time in the history of the reality series, there will not be a traditional reunion. It’s been a fractured season that saw longstanding rifts continue to fester. At the center is the feud between longstanding Housewives and sisters-in-law Teresa and Melissa. All season long, the 2 reportedly did not interact until the explosive finale that was teased in the premiere episode. A source said: “The network is figuring out a different concept to wrap up the season.”

★ “King of Queens” star Kevin James will star in a limited series about pro golfer John Daly. Golf is becoming a hot topic on TV as of late. Will Ferrell and Ramy Youssef are set to star in the Netflix comedy “GOLF”, while Adam Sandler is heading back to the links for a “Happy Gilmore” sequel, and Owen Wilson will play a pro-golfer in an upcoming series for Apple TV+. Famous for coining the phrase “grip it and rip it,” John Daly has won 5 PGA Tour titles. The autobiographical series is not yet attached to a network or streaming service.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Rita Ora – Her new single ‘Ask And You Shall Receive’ is out in time for summer. Rita quote: “The song is full of upbeat, summery vibes and is about seizing the moment romantically, and diving straight in with that special someone.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mr2vuau3
• BTS – has announced plans for its 2024 FESTA celebration. This year’s event, on June 13 at Seoul Sports Complex in South Korea, will mark the superstar K-pop group’s 11th anniversary. Jung Kook will also drop his new solo single ‘Never Let Go’ this Friday. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5bykjsb3
• Steve Miller – has praised Eminem in a statement after his hit ‘Abracadabra’ was reinterpreted in the rapper’s new single ‘Houdini’. Miller said he is “honored” that Eminem chose his 1982 hit for the similarly magic-themed single. Quote: “You are one of those timeless originators building something new on a long musical legacy of original artists.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p94w5s2
• Green Day, Jane’s Addiction and The Killers — Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt, The Killers guitarist Dave Keuning and Jane’s Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins have signed on to tutor budding musicians at the 2024 Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp. The event, in Los Angeles, is set for Oct. 17-20. LINK: https://www.rockcamp.com/
• Oasis – Mind. Blown. Liam Gallagher shocked fans by performing a cover of his rival sibling and former bandmate Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ song ‘Lock All the Doors’ in Sheffield on Sat. Even more surprising, Liam also dedicated his performance of the 1994 Oasis tune ‘Half the World Away’, which was originally sung by Noel, to “my little brother.” The 2 have been at odds since, well, forever.
• Maddie & Tae – Don’t be deceived by the title of their new single ‘Sad Girl Summer’ – it’s not a sad tune. The fun, uptempo number is about celebrating one’s newfound freedom following a breakup. They posted that the song was a “blast to write”, and they “co-wrote this with Tae’s husband, Josh Kerr, wanting to create an empowering summertime anthem for our fans to jam to this year!” LINK: https://youtu.be/Yek9JEoyjdg
• Dylan Marlowe – has tapped rapper Yung Gravy for a new version of his single ‘Boys Back Home’. The original version, featuring Dylan Scott, is currently climbing the country charts. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mppwv7nz
• Luke Combs – has now shared clips of 4 separate songs focused on fatherhood, each one capable of making fans of a certain age reach for tissues. In an interview, the father of 2 small children explained: “Obviously, that’s kind of where my headspace is. It’s just kind of hard to write or focus on anything else…That’s what my world is right now.”
SHOOTING THE BULL
FASHION FIRST:
❑ It can’t be ignored any longer: Ankle socks have gone the way of skinny jeans and the side part. Gen Z has served notice to 30- and 40-somethings that ankle socks are “out”, and crew socks are “in” again, according to trend reports. In fact, a writer for Kidspot, an Australian lifestyle news site, wrote last week: “Alright, millennials, brace yourselves…I’m here to talk to you about those ratty little pathetic excuses for socks you have on. Yes, I know they’re there. Even though they’re trying sooo hard to be invisible, I see them, and I’m sorry, but they’re officially cancelled.” And the trend is real: Fashion magazine In Style reported that showing off socks is “in again,” and last month, the New York Times wrote that we’re living in a “sock proud era.” (My dryer seems to cancel one of my socks every week!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5deb5kvx
❑ The Wall Street Journal reports that the latest in comfy fashion involves jean-printed sweatpants — and not in an ironic way. While I’m sure that a comparison to 1980s jeggings can’t be ignored, the quality from brands like Rag & Bone’s Miramar line makes the fake jeanswear passable, even at the office. Its offerings range in price from $100-$238 for shorts, jeans, and even jackets. The Miramar line has been described as “a super-soft cotton terry that looks like denim, (but) feels nothing like it”. And the fit? One reviewer wrote: “soft, lightweight, moves fluidly, and never clings to my body.” (Oh – so…like sweatpants…because they’re…sweatpants?)

HEALTH CHECK:
⇒ Researchers say that eating chocolate cake can damage your DNA. Chocolate’s irresistible aroma comes from a blend of molecules that give it that unmistakable smell and taste. But a Belgian team found that the formation of carbonyls during the roasting of cocoa beans could damage human DNA. (I’m good with it. If you knew some of my relatives, you’d understand that there’s a good chance that our DNA is already pretty badly messed up!)
⇒ Who know? Art is good for you. In response to a growing body of evidence that art, in whatever form, can radically improve both physical and mental health, more health care practitioners are prescribing arts engagement as part of treating a wide array of conditions, including: obesity, heart disease, chronic pain, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, loneliness and depression. New research shows that art experiences, whether as a creator or a beholder, can actually rewire our brains and trigger the release of neurochemicals, hormones and endorphins. (I knew that the first time I stage-dove into a moshpit!)

WHAT WOMEN WANT:
OK, here it is, guys: The 3 things that women really want you to do on a date. The dating app Tinder surveyed 8,000 heterosexual men and women ages 18-34, in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. Almost everyone — 91% of men and 94% of women — agreed that that dating has become more difficult in recent years. It was also found that that most singles (53% of men and 68% of women) are searching for a serious relationship. Now for the clincher: Women who participated in the survey revealed exactly what it is they’re searching for, when dating a potential partner….
1. “Make sure your date gets home safely.” 59% of women found this level of care to be chivalrous (versus 38% of men).
2. “Put your phone away during one-on-one time.” 55% of women prefer going screen-free on dates (versus 34% of men)
3. “Give sincere compliments.” 50% of women gave a thumbs-up to genuine affirmations (versus 35% of men).
(Of course, that also means that 50% of women can appreciate a good old “insincere” compliment. Maybe we have more in common than I thought!)
(…but if I have to put my phone away, how can I prove that I actually got a date?)

THE BEST KARAOKE DUETS SONGS:
Billboard has compiled its “100 Greatest Karaoke Duets of All Time” list. Here is the top 10…
1. Brandy & Monica – ‘The Boy Is Mine’ (1998): This is the crown jewel of karaoke duets: a dramatic story and plenty of opportunity for show-stopping harmonies.
2. Bradley Cooper & Lady Gaga – ‘Shallow’ (2018): Be sure to commit to Gaga’s primal scream in the middle!
3. Elton John & Kiki Dee – ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ (1976): It’s a couples-karaoke cliché by this point, but for good reason. (WOOO-HOOO!)
4. Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg – ‘Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang’ (1992): It is so immediately infectious that it permanently changed the course of rap — and it remains a joy to recreate 3 decades later.
5. Lady Antebellum – ‘Need You Now’ (2009): Space for vocal takes that are restrained yet powerful, with a chorus made for karaoke singalongs.
6. Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ (1967): It’s the kind of ‘unruinable’ song that makes whoever’s performing it seem more likeable. (Challenge accepted!)
7. Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton – ‘Islands in the Stream’ (1983): It allows each singer time to shine, but it is truly an equal share, like real love.
8. The B-52’s – ‘Love Shack’ (1989): If you’re looking to bring fun vibes, this song is the ticket.
9. Aladdin (Soundtrack) — ‘A Whole New World’ (1992): The song includes plenty of mid-line interjections (“Don’t your dare close your eyes,” “Hold your breath, it gets better”) that are “microphone gold” when handled properly.
10. John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John – ‘You’re the One That I Want’ (1978): It is, indeed, electrifyin’ (Ooh, ooh, ooh!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Serial record-breaker David Rush earned his 173rd Guinness World Records title by using his nose to inflate 28 balloons in 3 minutes. Rush, who is on a quest to hold the most concurrent Guinness World Records titles (180), already held the one-minute version of the record, but the 3-minute version took him 42 attempts to achieve. Meanwhile, last week, Vinod Chaudhary broke his own Guinness World Record by typing the alphabet in 25.66 seconds — using only a keyboard and his nose. (If these are the types of things that qualify as Guinness Records these days, it’s no wonder that some dude was able to set 180 of them!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Cheese Day”, celebrated on the anniversary of the creation of Roquefort cheese, made from ewes’ milk and ripened in a cave near Roquefort, France in the year 1070. It’s the perfect excuse to indulge yourself with a slice of your favorite. (If I could just get this wrapper off…)
• “Hug Your Cat Day”, a day to realize that felines need affection, even though they sometimes act as though they don’t want it.
• “Old Maid’s Day”, a truly outdated observance initiated in 1948 for unmarried women over age 35. These days, 35 is sometimes when a woman begins THINKING about having kids (and when a man begins thinking about DATING “kids”).
• “Shopping Cart Day”. The shopping cart was unveiled on this date in 1937 by Oklahoma’s Sylvian Goldman (the next day, 27 of them were found abandoned behind his apartment building).
• “International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression”, a UN observance established in 1982. There are approximately 110 million uprooted refugees around-the-world who have sought safety in another country. Around half of them are children.
• “Cognac Day”, inviting you to have a laid-back day while enjoying one of the finest alcoholic drinks. Cognac, which originates from a town of the same name in France, is a type of brandy that many enjoy thanks to its distilled and fine taste.
