Here’s More Bull Roar!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jamie Foxx is grateful to be back on stage. He performed his previously announced one-man show “One More Chance: An Evening With Jamie Foxx”, in Atlanta earlier this month, over a year suffering an undisclosed life-threatening medical complication. He captioned a carousel of images on Instagram with the words “God is good. As I post these pictures, my heart and my soul is filled with nothing but pure joy.” He also said that audiences at the shows on Oct. 3, 4, and 5 heard him tell his “side of the story” of his health scare. In the photos from his performances, Foxx appeared emotional, hiding his head in his elbow, bowing his head to the audience, and hugging someone on stage. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mt9e7thf

★ Hugh Jackman has announced his next project following “Deadpool & Wolverine’s” recent success. He’ll take to the stage to perform a 12-show residency at New York’s Radio City Music Hall in 2025. “From New York With Love” will feature some of Jackman’s iconic roles from musicals including “The Greatest Showman”, “Les Misérables”, “The Boy From Oz” and “The Music Man”, plus some “surprises” for fans. The show will begin on January 24, and will continue through select weekends, closing August 16. Tickets go on sale Friday.

★ Social media users were quick to point out that Elon Musk’s latest creations clearly draw inspiration from the 2004 film “I, Robot” – and now the film’s director has chimed in – and he agrees. Alex Proyas took to X to call out Musk directly, writing: “Hey Elon, Can I have my designs back please?” He posted a side-by-side comparison of futuristic objects from his movie with Musk’s strikingly similar humanoid robots, Robovan and Cybercab. Musk noted the similarities in the event’s name itself, unveiling his latest offerings at the “We, Robot” Tesla reveal. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3h6dphdb

★ There will be lots of early 2000s nostalgia at movie theaters next year. Disney has set release dates for “Freakier Friday” and the live action “Lilo & Stitch” film. Lilo & Stitch hits theaters May 23. And Freakier Friday will bow on Aug. 8. Freakier Friday reunites Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, stars of the 2003 body-swap feature “Freaky Friday”.
-HollywoodReporter
★ Sebastian Stan was tasked with gaining 15 pounds when he took on the role of Donald Trump in “The Apprentice” — which he managed to do with the help of Coca-Cola. He told Entertainment Tonight: “If you drink 4 Coca-Colas a day, a lot of things happen to your body. Don’t do it.” Stan’s weight gain method of choice is somewhat appropriate, given Trump’s own love of soda. Of course, Trump doesn’t go for the sugary version — he shared in 2017 that he drinks 12 Diet Cokes a day.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift — Swifties are convinced she’s dropping “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” this Friday, because 2 other major artists have postponed their new releases, supposedly to avoid competing with hers. Shawn Mendes recently announced he’s delaying “Shawn” to Nov. 15, and Joe reportedly moved the release of “Music For People Who Fall in Love” to 2025.
• The Kid LAROI — has dropped the new single and video ‘Aperol Spritz’. If you’re not familiar with Aperol Spritz, it is the name of a popular summer cocktail. LINK: https://youtu.be/LdugpcDBhI0
• Mariah Carey – is re-releasing her seasonal mega-hit ‘All I Want For Christmas is You’, as part of a 30th anniversary version of her “Merry Christmas” album. She posted: “While it is definitely not time to listen to Christmas music yet, I wanted to share a glimpse of #MerryChristmas30” She included the cover art for 2 of the 4 new All I Want For Christmas Is You physical singles. LINK:  https://tinyurl.com/2vfjvkxb (How did they NOT name this album “Mariah Christmas”?)
• Billy Joel — Axl Rose joined him on stage Saturday in Inglewood CA for a cover of Wings’ ‘Live and Let Die’. Rose has previously joined Joel onstage at least twice, including for a July Madison Square Garden show, where the 2 performed AC/DC’s ‘Highway To Hell’ and Joel’s ‘You May Be Right’. LINK: https://youtu.be/wmpKJ–79eY
• Steve Perry – Nov. 8, the ex-Journey singer will release a ‘re-expanded’ version of his 2021 holiday album “The Season”. The new version will contain 6 additional songs, including ‘What a Wonderful World’. The Season was initially released in expanded form in 2022, with 10 additional songs. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3f9tu82p
• Oasis – Noel and Liam Gallagher won’t be doing joint interviews to promote their upcoming reunion tour because they’re worried that the press might try to spark conflict between them. That’s according to a tweet from Liam. On the other hand, he said in a separate tweet that they won’t be doing interviews simply because they “can’t be arsed”.
• Reba McEntire and Carole King – teamed up to write the theme song for McEntire’s new NBC comedy “Happy’s Place.” The song will debut on the show’s premiere this Friday, which will stream on Peacock the next day.
• Brantley Gilbert – paused his show on Friday so he could deliver his own baby. He was performing in Tupelo MS when wife Amber, went into labor. A fan posted that he was gone for an hour, and when he returned, he told the audience that he had helped his wife deliver their third child on his tour bus. LINK: https://shorturl.at/diqzi
• Jelly Roll — Just hours after releasing his new album “Beautifully Broken,” he dropped a deluxe version. Friday’s original release contains 22 songs, and the deluxe version which dropped later that day, contains an additional 6, all collabs. Guest appearances are made by Keith Urban, machine gun kelly, ERNEST, Halsey, Russ and Skyler Grey.

SHOOTING THE BULL

BATHROOM BACTERIA:
Over the years, we’ve seen studies that supposedly show how our phones have more germs and bacteria on them than – say – a toilet seat. And how the kitchen dishrag is also covered in yuckies. Now, a new study has found that our showerheads and toothbrushes are teeming with viruses. Researchers at Northwestern University analyzed 92 showerhead and 34 toothbrush samples from across the US, using advanced DNA sequencing techniques. The study leader said: “The number of viruses that we found is absolutely wild.” The team detected many viruses that they “know very little about”, and others that they have “never seen before”. Among them: The presence of bacteriophages — viruses that infect bacteria — in both showerheads and toothbrushes. They play a crucial role in shaping bacterial communities and may influence our health in ways we don’t yet fully understand. The study also found that toothbrushes harbor a more diverse range of microbes than showerheads. This is likely due to the fact that toothbrushes are exposed to things like bacteria from our mouths, food particles, and environmental microbes, which shower heads, under normal conditions, do not.
(…and if your shower head IS exposed to those things, you’ve got waaay bigger problems than germs on your shower head!)
(Well, at least my teen’s towel isn’t the most disgusting thing in the bathroom anymore!)
(Is it just me, or did this study just totally defeat the purpose of washing and brushing your teeth?)

NEW FOOD NEWS:
❑ A Harvard medical student has completed an interesting “eggxperiment”.  Nick Horowitz ate a total of 720 chicken eggs (60 dozen) over 28 days to test their effect on his bad cholesterol. Eggs have long had a reputation for raising LDL, or ‘bad’ cholesterol, and even though that perception has changed in recent years, the results of this experiment show that eggs can be your high-protein friend. Not only did Horowitz survive eating an egg every hour for 28 straight days, his LDL levels dropped by 2% in the first 2 weeks of his eggxperiment, then dropped another 18% in the following 2 weeks, after he added carbs to his daily diet. He says eating that many eggs was “pleasant” because eggs can be served so many ways. (If one of those ways was deviled, I think we can safely say that it’s actually FLATULENCE that’s good for your cholesterol level!)
❑ A Canadian speed-eater added another world record to his resume by eating 2 pounds and 7 ounces of hot sauce in 3 minutes. Mike Jack, who also holds other Guinness titles for speed-eating and drinking, used a spoon to eat the bucket-full of Sriracha hot sauce in the allotted time. When asked about the possible after-effects of his feat, Jack said that he has “actually never experienced burn-butt before…It’s my superpower, I guess.” (That last part takes away every possible joke I could make about this story!)

MONEY MATTERS:
This just might explain how my credit score went all wrong. Almost one-third of us actually believe that “cash doesn’t count” when it comes to spending money. A survey of 2,000 adults in the US split evenly by gender and generation found that because spending cash doesn’t affect their bank account balance, 29% feel that doing so doesn’t actually “count”. More findings from the same survey:
• 35% say that carrying cash makes them feel more prepared.
• 5% never have cash on them.
Surprisingly, Gen Zers were found to be more likely to carry some cash, with just 12% saying they rarely have money, compared to 24% of boomers and 23% of Gen X. And when we do carry money, exactly how much are we talking about? Men tend to carry about $78, while women said they generally have $51 with them.
(78 bucks!?!? Why would I carry around an entire week’s pay?)
(I’m actually surprised that Gen Z likes to carry cash. You’ve gotta give them credit. Wait – what?)

HOW TO MAKE YOUR CARVED PUMPKIN LAST:
Who wants to wait until the afternoon of the 31st to transform their pumpkin into a jack o’ lantern? Here’s what to do to preserve your carved pumpkin, and enjoy it for days and days…
⇒ Pick a Healthy Pumpkin: Be sure to start with a fresh and healthy one. Choose a firm pumpkin with no soft spots and its stem intact.
⇒ Get Rid of the Guts: Once you open it up, it’s important that the guts go. Make it as clean and dry as possible, to prevent early decay.
⇒ Use Petroleum Jelly: Not kidding. Rub a thin layer on the inside of the pumpkin to reduce mold and slow rotting. (Also prevents chapped lips!)
⇒ Refrigerate it: If you can, put it in the fridge each night. This helps rehydrate your carved pumpkin (and keeps it away from bugs and critters). This is especially important in warmer climates. Spray it with a homemade peppermint spray first, then put it in a small garbage bag before putting it in the fridge. (My wife doesn’t even give this much care to her roses!)
⇒ Soak it overnight: Another way to rehydrate your pumpkin is to soak it a bucket or tub every night or 2. Some people swear by this method, others use bleach.
(Forget all that. — I’m just going to get 2 or 3 pumpkins!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Last Wednesday, Ivan Ivan of the Colorado Avalanche became the first player in NHL history with the same first and last names. However, there have been some other notable people who share the same peculiarity: Musician DJ Khaled’s real name is Khaled Khaled. Lauren Bush, the granddaughter of former US president George H.W. Bush, married Ralph Lauren’s son, making her Lauren Bush Lauren. And even though he is a fictional character, video game star Mario’s full name is Mario Mario, according to his creator. (And that means, of course, that his brother is Luigi Mario…)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .

• “Information Overload Day”, calling attention to the fact that some of us are drowning in information and that the issue of information overload comes with an extremely high cost to the economy. While many believe that the pace of information today speeds up what we do, the opposite can also be true. (TMI?)
• “Red Wine Day”. Just do it.
• “International Day of Rural Women”, a UN observance since 2008. (Celebrate it – even if you can’t SAY it!)

• “White Cane Safety Day”, set aside since 1964 to celebrate the achievements of the visually impaired and their important tool of independence, the white cane.
• I Love Lucy Day”. It’s the 73rd anniversary of the beloved “I Love Lucy” TV show. Stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz broke new ground with their show, which first aired on this day in 1951.
• “Cheese Curd Day”. These moist pieces of curdled milk are either eaten alone as a snack, or used for other things. They are chiefly found in Quebec, Canada, in the dish ‘poutine’ (made of French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy), and in the northeastern and midwestern US. Curds are sometimes referred to as “squeaky cheese” (and apparently pair well with ‘whey’…)
• “Pug Day”. Pugs date to 400 BCE or earlier, and are believed to have origins in China. They became part of royal families when Chinese emperors began keeping them as lap dogs. Pugs were often treated to luxury, and sometimes even given their own palaces and guards.
