Deja Moo!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ It’s that time again: The Oscar host hunt is on, and according to some reports, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are in the mix. Deadline says they would be included as part of a star ensemble of rotating hosts, each — or in pairs — doing a portion of the show, as part of a plan to shake things up. Other stars who have reportedly been approached include Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler and Dwayne Johnson – which isn’t much of a stretch, being that The Rock’s name comes up as a potential host pretty much every year. Would Reynolds and Jackman accept the offer? Sources say there are mixed signals as to whether the “Deadpool & Wolverine” stars are willing.
-Deadline
★ “Joker: Folie à Deux” was expected to be another twisted comic book smash. But the sequel to 2019’s billion-dollar hit “Joker” is a box office disaster. After 2 weeks of release, the offbeat musical about Batman’s foe has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally. By comparison, the first “Joker” had generated almost twice that after just 3 days of release. The sequel is now projected to earn just $215 million globally by the time it leaves the big screen. Variety reports that the problem is that “Joker 2” cost $200 million to produce and about $100 million to market and distribute, meaning it won’t get anywhere close to the $450 million needed to break even in its theatrical run.
-Variety
★ In spite of the underperforming fiasco that “Joker: Folie à Deux’s” has become, there was a historic first at last week’s box office: 5 of the Top 10 movies were animated features. Also surprising was the fact that those 5 movies are so varied, which shows how versatile the genre has become. The movies were “The Wild Robot” at #2, the animated music documentary “Piece by Piece” at #5, “Transformers One” at #6, the Japanese anime flick “My Hero Academia: You’re Next” at #8, and the stop-motion masterpiece “The Nightmare Before Christmas” at #9.
-TheWrap
★ “Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr has landed his next lead movie role. He’ll star in a film adaptation of Julianna Baggott’s short story “The Hider”. “Ant-Man and the Wasp” writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari will handle the script, which Universal hopes will follow on from the success of “Oppenheimer”, for which Downey won an Oscar for best supporting actor. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but we do know that Downey will also co-produce the film.
-DigitalSpy
★ “Game of Thrones” fans came out in droves to bid on hundreds of costumes, props and other items from the series in an auction that raked in over $21 million. The Heritage Auctions event in Dallas featured suits of armor, swords and weapons, jewelry and several other items of significance from the HBO series. The top-dollar item was the very thing the characters in the series vied for throughout its 8-season run: the Iron Throne, which eventually went for $1.5 million, following a bidding war.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Olivia Rodrigo — took quite a fall while performing in Melbourne, Australia. Fan-shot footage shows her running to the middle of the stage when she trips and falls into a hole. Fortunately, she was OK, climbing back up and proclaiming “Oh my God, that was fun. I’m OK! … Where was I?”. Then, she carried on with the show. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ymer39pw
• BTS – Jin will release his debut solo album “Happy” on Nov. 15. The 6-song collection is described as a chance for fans to “join him on a journey to find happiness, offering them a sense of strength and comfort in their day-to-day lives”, whatever that means. It follows the 2022 release of his solo single ‘Astronaut’.
• Coldplay – Their new album “Moon Music” has debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It is the group’s 5th #1 on the chart, following 2005’s “X&Y”, 2008’s “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends”, 2011’s “Mylo Xyloto” and 2014’s “Ghost Stories”.
• Elton John – made headlines last week when he bragged of all the body parts he has had removed over the years. Now, it has come to light that at the London premiere of his biopic “Never Too Late”, he actually wore a necklace featuring his old kneecap. In pics, it appears to be outlined in gold, and hanging on a gold bone-like chain. LINK: https://shorturl.at/UjPiy
• The Beatles – Their legendary first trip to America in 1964 will be chronicled in a new documentary from producer Martin Scorsese and director David Tedeschi. “Beatles ’64” will be released on Disney+ on Nov. 29, and will include never-before-seen footage of the band and its fans.
• R.E.M. – guitarist Peter Buck’s new supergroup, Silverlites, has dropped its first single. The band, also featuring The Black Crowes’ Rich Robinson, Screaming Trees/Mad Season drummer Barrett Martin and singer Joseph Arthur has just released ‘Don’t Go Don’t Stay’, and will unleash its debut album on Nov. 15. LINK: https://youtu.be/3vf1ncgNFFc
• Brantley Gilbert – has a good explanation for why his baby boy was born on his tour bus in Tupelo MS (mid-show) over the weekend – no one expected him to be born so soon. In an interview, he revealed that he and wife Amber had a midwife on the road with them, just in case. Gilbert paused his show to assist with the delivery, then returned to the stage to continue his performance.
• Lainey Wilson – will perform the halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day game against the NY Giants. She announced the news on Sunday, live from the field of AT&T Stadium before the second half of the Cowboys’ game against Detroit. She also said that an as-yet-unnamed “special guest” will be joining her. LINK: https://youtu.be/DLzc_ZmtHz4
• Luke Combs – His downtown Nashville bar “Category 10” will open on Nov. 2. The hot spot will hit the ground running with food, signature cocktails, and live entertainment. Local acts booked for the first weekend include Brother Maven, Paige Rosen and a series of one-of-a-kind synchronized dance performances from Category 10’s dance team.

SHOOTING THE BULL

SPECIAL BREAKFAST:
Researchers are saying that it might be a good idea for men and women to eat different breakfasts. A study conducted at the University of Waterloo using a mathematical model found that each gender could benefit from specific food choices in their morning meals to optimize metabolism and even possibly aid weight management. It was determined that men’s metabolisms respond better to carb-rich breakfasts, like oats and grains. Women are better off eating foods higher in fat content, like omelettes and avocados. Study co-author Anita Layton says one factor the researchers took into account is that women tend to burn more fat while fasting (such as while sleeping) than men do.
(Would it be OK if I order my sausage, ham and bacon breakfast platter with “extra carbs”, then?)
(Pro-tip for guys: Do NOT go home and tell your wife that she could burn a lot of fat if she started fasting!)

LEAVE THE LEAVES:
Here it is: Your annual excuse NOT to rake the leaves that are piling higher on your lawn by the day. The Nature Conservancy of Canada has a green-friendly response for those of us who’d like to avoid the back-breaking and callus-creating task of clearing the leaves: Just don’t do it. Why not? There are 3 major benefits to leaving the leaves in the yard during fall. First, it helps biodiversity, as there are many native insects and small critters such as frogs and toads that hibernate under the leaves during the winter. They also serve as a food source for birds, such as robins, which often forage among the leaves, searching for insects to eat. The other benefit is to the lawn itself. Leaves provide a natural mulch when they break down, which helps soil development. While large piles of leaves can impact the growth of grass and other plants come spring, a thin layer of leaves can help maintain the health of gardens and lawns.
(My neighbor will be so happy to hear that he doesn’t have to blow them into my yard this year!)
(Leaves provide a food source for birds? I didn’t even know they could cook!)

GROPE OPERA?
[***CAUTION – Preview for content***]
It wasn’t the audience reaction that producers of an opera in Germany expected: 18 people required medical attention during a presentation of Florentina Holzinger’s “Sancta” earlier this month in Stuttgart. Why? Well, for starters, the opera features sex scenes, mutilation – and real blood. Need more? It also includes naked roller-skating nuns and a depiction of a wall of crucified naked bodies. Probably not what the opera-going crowd was expecting. A spokesperson said that 18 people were attended to by staff over the 2 nights, and in 3 cases, an ambulance was called. Reports say that a few people suffered from nausea during the boundary-pushing show. Audiences were warned ahead of time about 2 scenes, lasting only a few minutes, which “might be hard to watch”. The spokesperson also said that certain light effects could have contributed to some of the incidents. Despite the unfortunate experiences of some, many in the audience seemed to enjoy the performances, and applauded loudly afterward.
(Because it was over?)
(Those would be the ones who thought they were at a Mötley Crüe concert, I guess!)

LONGEVITY SECRETS FROM A 101-YEAR-OLD:
A 101-year-old man who worked as a doctor until he was 85 is sharing his secrets to a long, healthy life. William (no last name given) was born in the UK in 1922, and lives in Toronto. Here are his secrets to a long life:
1. Keeping active: He used to be an avid swimmer, and now walks and lifts 15-pound weights daily to avoid becoming immobile.
2. Eating home-cooked meals – and sardines: William still prepares all his meals. By home-cooking, he is able eat fewer ultra-processed foods. He started eating sardines at age 6, “Before they discovered omega-3s”, as he put it. Sardines also contain many nutrients.
3. Having a long and varied career: William worked as a primary-care physician, then moved into public health, and was a psychotherapist by the time he retired. He says making a career change is a good way to “stay interested”. It’s also beneficial to volunteer, have hobbies, and experience social stimulation.
(It all sounds great – except the sardines part!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Just in case the bizarre weather and devastating storms of late weren’t enough to make you wonder what the world is coming to, a glitch on the BBC Weather app last week led to forecasts such as 832-degree Fahrenheit temperatures in Brazil and 13,000 mph winds in Chicago. The UK’s national broadcaster said the issue was caused by a data glitch. (Chicago: Now more than ever, “The Windy City”!)
