100% Grade A Bull!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ In his first “Saturday Night Live” appearance in 10 years, Mike Myers made a big splash at both the beginning and the end of the show. He appeared on stage with host Shane Gillis and musical guest Tate McRae as the credits rolled, wearing a black T-shirt that read “Canada is not for sale.” Myers, who was born in Scarborough, Ontario, seemingly wore it as a pointed response to US President Trump’s repeated comments about wanting Canada to become the 51st state. During the show’s cold open, which recreated Trump’s Zelenskyy meeting, Myers stormed in as ‘Elon Musk’, interrupting the conversation with a chainsaw in his hand. He then asked the president, “What are you doing in my office? You know, I’m the president now, right? I’m kidding. I’m kidding. Maybe not?”

★ Kirk Burrowes, the co-founder and former president of Bad Boy Entertainment, is suing Sean “Diddy” Combs over what he calls a “deeply disturbing pattern” of sexual abuse, coercion, violence and intimidation that spanned more than a decade. Friday, Burrowes’ lawyer filed a complaint against his former business partner in New York, alleging years of “predatory” actions toward him and an overall fostering of a “toxic environment of coercion, fear and psychological manipulation.” Combs is accused of subjecting Burrowes to “repeated sexual harassment, physical aggression and forced compliance with degrading sexual acts” as part of a campaign to force Burrowes to give up a 25% ownership stake in Bad Boy Entertainment.

★ “Captain America: Brave New World” topped the domestic box office in its third weekend, in spite of a major slowdown. The first MCU film of 2025 is estimated to have taken in $15 over Oscars weekend, earning the #1 spot for the 3rd weekend in a row. That’s not a huge achievement, considering that its only new release competition was the Woody Harrelson survival thriller “Last Breath”, which made an estimated $7.3 million. All told, it proved to be the second-softest weekend at the domestic box office so far this year, with a total take of $55.5 million, just better than Super Bowl weekend’s haul of $54.2 million.

★ “American Idol” alum Colin Stough is facing legal trouble. The 20-year-old, who was featured on season 21 of the singing competition series — was arrested and charged with DUI, underage consumption of alcohol and failure to exercise due care on Friday. Cops found Stough when they responded to a single-vehicle crash on the I-840 freeway a few miles south of Nashville. Stough was transported to a hospital before being booked by police. He eventually was bailed out. During his American Idol stint, Stough impressed judges with his rendition of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘Simple Man’.

★ After more than a decade on screen, Alexandra Daddario has a message for her critics. The Emmy Award nominee recently addressed the “most outrageous rumor” about herself “that won’t go away” despite her nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress in Season 1 of HBO‘s “The White Lotus”. While playing Elle’s drinking game “Thirst Trap”, she said that rumor is “That I’m a bad actress.” She refuted that, saying: “I’ve just done some projects that don’t showcase me in the way that I should be showcased…Director and the writing is everything, and sometimes I’m lit poorly, but I’m not a bad actress. I got an Emmy nomination. How do you think I did that?”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lizzo – Friday, she dropped ‘Love in Real Life”, her first solo song in about 2 years. The lyrics to the pop-rock tune explain how “love in real life” — not likes on social media or views on a video — is exactly what she needs to bring her back to a “much simpler” way of living. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5b3w73f9
• Benson Boone – His new era is here, thanks to new single ‘Sorry I’m Here for Someone Else’. In an interview, he said the song, about waiting to meet a girl at a diner, realizing the waitress is his ex and then leaving with her instead, has “really fun energy.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3pv62j6j
• Katy Perry – In case you haven’t heard, she’s going to space. A Blue Origin space flight this spring will carry a crew of 6, including her, CBS anchor Gayle King, and Blue Origin owner Jeff Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sánchez.
• New York Dolls — David Johansen, the frontman for the proto-punk band and actor known for his work in the Bill Murray classic “Scrooged,” has died. The 75-year-old announced last month that he was suffering from cancer, a brain tumor and a broken back. As alter-ego Buster Poindexter, he had a 1988 hit with the song ‘Hot Hot Hot’.
• Hall & Oates – Daryl Hall says he’ll never perform with John Oates again. Quote: “That ship has gone to the bottom of the ocean.” Their partnership hit an impasse in 2023 when Oates moved to sell his stake in their publishing company, and Hall filed a lawsuit.
• R.E.M. – staged a surprise reunion at the 40 Watt Club in their hometown of Athens GA. Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Bill Berry and Mike Mills joined actor Michael Shannon and musician Jason Narducy, who are on tour paying homage to the group’s 1985 album “Fables of the Reconstruction.” R.E.M. disbanded in 2011. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2mzh23sp
• Elle King – Friday, she announced that she and partner Dan Tooker have welcomed their second son together. She shared a pic of herself with her tiny newborn sleeping on her chest as Tooker leans into frame, with the words: “Welcome to the world Royal Tooker.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2rym83hj
• Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina – Their 2016 hit ‘What Ifs’ has just been certified Diamond by the RIAA. That means that the song has sold more than 10 million units, joining just 11 other country songs to reach that statue. To celebrate, the pair, who have been friends since grade school, got matching “diamond” tattoos. Video has been posted, of course. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yc6vyz9f
• Trace Adkins – has dropped the new single ‘What Color’s Your Wild’. He’ll perform the new tune on NBC’s “Today” show this Wednesday, the same day the song’s music video premieres on CMT. https://tinyurl.com/mrj3e2bd
SHOOTING THE BULL
GRAY MATTERS:
If you can imagine, we could soon see the end of wrinkles and gray hair, according to a new study. German researchers say they have identified the potential for a variety of anti-ageing treatments involving an array of naturally-occurring hormones that could be used to slow some of the body’s ageing processes. The researchers found that melatonin, known for its role in regulating sleep, may also help keep skin youthful. And several other hormones – such as melanocyte-stimulating hormone (which affects skin pigmentation) and oxytocin – were also found to help keep skin and hair youthful by helping protect them from UV damage. The scientists hope these discoveries will lead to new anti-ageing treatments called “senotherapeutics”. These drugs work by targeting and removing cells that stop dividing and build up in the body as we age.
(In THIS political climate? I doubt it!)
(But…but…Hollywood put an end to gray hair and wrinkles DECADES ago!)

EMOTIONS IN ANIMALS:
A group of scientists say they are getting close to being able to decipher the emotions of animals. The research team, from the University of Copenhagen, claims that by using a form of AI, they are able to distinguish between positive and negative emotional states in various animals. After, using machine learning to analyze distinct calls from cows, pigs, and other animals, they say they realized that certain acoustic signals indicate mood shifts, and identify which sounds relate to pleasant or unpleasant experiences. They say their findings could change how we handle livestock and wildlife, and “revolutionize animal welfare”.
(Finally, maybe we’ll find out if pigeons are doing that to our clean cars because they’re mad – or just because they’re jerks!)
(Just what I need: My cat confirming that I’m a constant disappointment…)

CHOOSEY ON MOVIES:
The results of a new survey make you kinda wonder why there’s so much hype leading up to the Academy Awards. Among the 10 Best Picture nominees for last night’s ceremony, 48% of adults haven’t seen any of them. The survey of 2,000 Americans found that although Hollywood released over 500 movies last year, the average adult has only seen 3. And as you might expect, Gen Z and millennials said they watch twice as many movies as Baby Boomers. Among the older generation, 43% said they didn’t see a single new movie last year — in theaters or streaming. Leading the pack among favorite Oscar-nominated films was “Wicked”, with 31% having watched it, and 41% saying it should win. A little more than half (54%) said they are more likely to make the effort to watch a movie after it receives an Oscar nomination or a win.
(Maybe the Oscars should start giving awards for ‘Best Movie You Didn’t Watch’?)
(500 movies released last year – and I still end up watching a 3-hour documentary on squirrels – twice!)

WEIRDEST FOODS EVER MARKETED:
► Ham & Bananas Hollandaise: Yup. Bananas coated in lemon juice, wrapped with mustard-slathered boiled ham slices, and baked – and topped off with hollandaise sauce. It was a 1970s thing.
► Apples Stuffed with Prawns: How about combining apples, lemons, mayo, olives, Tabasco sauce, pickles, tomato paste, AND SHRIMP, and stuffing it all into hollowed apples. And just to add to the hurt, let’s top it with whole prawns and stuffed olives.
► Bologna Cake: Not really a cake, but it looks like one. It layers bologna with a mix of cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and onion. The outside is “frosted” with a cheese mixture, and decorated with spray cheese. (Can I put candles on it?)
► Liver Sausage Pineapple: This shows up in a 1952 cookbook. Despite the name, it does NOT feature pineapple. Rather, it is liver sausage (bad enough!) shaped and decorated to LOOK like a pineapple, using gelatin and mayo, olives and pimento.
► Tuna and Pear Pizza: A suggestion from the Fruit Producers Council in 1972, it’s a pizza made from a sauce containing a combination of tuna and pears. It is topped with pickled walnuts and – you guessed it – anchovies! (I didn’t even know you COULD pickle walnuts!)
► Anything in Gelatin: Yeah, in the 1960s and 70s, people were somehow convinced they could make simple, delicious foods better by molding them in gelatin. Example? The Jellied Tomato Refresher, a combo of juice, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, green pepper flakes, lemon juice, garlic and cloves. In gelatin. And that thing was a dessert!

DID YOU KNOW?
Skype will be no more, as of this May. Microsoft is shutting down the internet-based phone and video service that was the dominant way of staying connected in the mid 2000s. The company has advised users that instead, they will be able to use their login info on Microsoft Teams. Skype’s shutdown comes 14 years after Microsoft bought the service for US$8.5 billion, but its usage has dwindled in recent years, as competing services like Zoom and Google Meet gained popularity. Skype has also faced increased competition from apps like FaceTime and WhatsApp. (No wonder. Up until a few weeks ago, I thought Skype was where the phrase “Can you hear me now?” came from!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “I Want You to Be Happy Day”, a day to show love, care, and concern for others. (Tomorrow is “OK, My Turn Day”.)
• “American National Anthem Day” in observance of the bill designating ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ as the US national anthem being passed by Congress and signed into law by President Hoover on this date in 1931.
• “Cold Cuts Day”. You might pop deli meats into sandwiches, you might have them drizzled with oil and with a few slices of cheese. Whatever way you like them, today is all about celebrating the tasty meats that are somehow even tastier when served up in slices. (No matter WHAT science tells us about how healthy they are…) But more importantly, it’s also…
• “Canadian Bacon Day”, as it’s known in the US (It’s “back bacon” to Canadians). It is actually a little more like ham than bacon. It is served formed into a cylindrical shape and is sold ready to eat.
• “33 Flavors Day”, all about ice cream, of course! Baskin Robbins is known for its 31 flavors, not 33, so we’re not really sure why today is called 33 Flavors Day, but just go with it…
• “Fun Facts About Names Day”, part of “Celebrate Your Name Week”, when it’s suggested we take time to learn some of the interesting background to our names. LINK: http://www.behindthename.com
• “Mulled Wine Day”. One of the most delicious ways of serving up your usual cheeky glass of red. Laden with spices and fruit, mulled wine brings out the natural sweetness of the alcoholic drink and gives it an extra sparkle of flavor. On a chilly night, curling up with a warm glass is the perfect tonic to winter blues.
• “International Ear Care Day”, to raise awareness and promote ear and hearing care across the world. (As mom used to say, “Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear”)
• “World Wildlife Day”, the 12th annual, proclaimed by the UN to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora (the famous nature twins). This year’s theme is “Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation” LINK: https://www.wildlifeday.org/
• “Talk in Third Person Day”. The day is quite simple—it is spent speaking in the third person. During the first celebration, in 2006, the day’s creator said, “It’s finally here. Russell is very excited!”
