Sheet for Brains!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jonathan Majors and Meagan Good have tied the knot. People quotes a source as saying: “They are very much in love. According to ET, which broke the news, the couple were wed by Majors’s mother, who is a Methodist pastor. The couple confirmed their engagement at the EBONY Power 100 Gala in November, where the “Think Like a Man” actress showed off her diamond engagement ring while posing on the red carpet. In December, 2023, Majors was found guilty of 2 counts of misdemeanor assault and harassment. In April, he was sentenced to complete one year of an “in person batterers” intervention program.

★ Not everyone was thriller to see “Wonder Woman” actress Gal Gadot receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Tuesday’s ceremony was disrupted by pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel protesters. The pro-Palestinian group held signs that read, “Heros Fight Like Palestinians,” and “Viva Viva Palestina”, and broke out in chants before Gadot was even at the podium. Police broke up a fight between demonstrators, and a group of protesters was seen being handcuffed. Gadot is a native of Israel, and has vocally defended the country amid its conflict with the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

★ “Law & Order” worlds are colliding again. NBC has announced that the flagship Law & Order series and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” will cross over on April 17. The 2-hour event will see SVU’s ‘Captain Olivia Benson’ (Mariska Hargitay) discover a brutal murder after a tip on a mysterious phone call. Members of both teams will investigate a series of rapes and murders victimizing marginalized women. SVU’s ‘ADA Dominick Carisi, Jr.’ (Peter Scanavino) and L&O’s ‘ADA Nolan Price’ (Hugh Dancy) will team up to prosecute the suspect. “Law & Order: Organized Crime” will air its season premiere immediately after the crossover episode, at 10pm.
-EW
★ According to Puck News, Will Smith is one of several celebs Netflix has approached about headlining their next live comedy roast — a no holds barred ribbing that would definitely invite jokes about the infamous Oscars slap — and his very public marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith. A Smith roast would follow “Tom Brady’s Greatest Roast of All Time”, which was broadcast live on Netflix in May 2023. No comment from Smith or Netflix so far.

★ If you have been waiting for the day when Tina Fey launches her own line of designer glasses, don’t hold your breath. The “30 Rock” creator, and former “SNL” head writer and star revealed on her friend Amy Poehler’s podcast that she has no interest in starting her own “side hustle.” When Pohler asked her frequent collaborator: “Why do you not have a glasses line? [Do] you hate money?”, Fey joked: “I do kind of hate money.” She went on to explain that she has “a problem with rich people having a side hustle.” When Poehler jokingly asked if she was referring to a friend starting a podcast, she responded: “Yeah, if you already have like $200 million … I judge it.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

“FETCHING” THE BIG BUCKS:
I know we all claim that we wouldn’t sell our furry friends for “a million bucks” – but how about $5.7 million? That was the price paid for the most expensive – and unique dog ever. The “wolfdog” named ‘Cadabomb Okami’, is a first-of-its-kind cross between an actual wolf and a Caucasian Shepherd. The 8-month-old pup was born in the US, and is already weighs over 165lbs (75kg). The so-called ‘rarest dog in the world’ was purchased by an Indian dog enthusiast last month, who says he owns over 150 dog breeds, and makes a living by showing off his unique collection to excited crowds. In fact, the dogs make enough money to support a team of 6 to look after them.
(Plus, he’s going to make a ton of cash for his owner when the inevitable sci-fi horror movie is made about a wolf-shepherd cross that eats plutonium and attacks Florida!)
(People say money can’t buy happiness, but I guess it CAN buy a wolfdog that’s the size of a small bear!)

PAINFUL TRUTH:
❑ According to a new study, pain hurts more when you aren’t expecting it. Danish researchers ran a series of tests exposing participants to cold and warm sensations, sometimes both at the same time. The participants were asked to predict whether they would feel cold or warm, and researchers say the experiment ultimately proved that the uncertainty behind what they expected to feel amplified the pain they experienced. The lead researcher concluded: “Even when nothing harmful is happening, not knowing what to expect somehow makes us feel a fairly high level of pain.” It is hoped this finding could help treat patients who are anxious about experiencing pain. (The only people who didn’t already know this are those who have never stepped on a Lego in the dark!)
❑ Scientists have discovered that simply looking at natural scenes can reduce pain. An international study found that exposure to nature results in the calming of specific brain circuits, changing how our brains process painful stimuli at a fundamental level. Lead study author Max Steininger of the University of Vienna said that while many studies over the years have shown that people consistently feel less pain when exposed to nature, “until now, the underlying reasons for this effect were unclear”, and this study shows it isn’t just a placebo effect. (So…pain relief literally grows on trees?)

VOLUNTEER POSITION:
If you’re the type who has been known to “sleep on the job”, the European Space Agency is looking for you. The ESA is offering up to $5,000 to volunteers who are OK with the idea of staying in bed – for 10 days straight. They need people who will lie on a waterbed for 10 days as part of a study at the Medes Space Clinic in Toulouse University Hospital. Why? The agency is conducting a study where they’ll replicate the effects of the human body in space. The ESA says the 10 volunteers will “lie down in containers similar to bathtubs covered with a waterproof fabric. This keeps them dry and evenly suspended in water.” They will be submerged to the torso, with arms and legs (and head) above water, but they will “experience a sensation of floating without physical support…close to what astronauts feel while on the International Space Station.” And because I know you’re wondering, volunteers will go to the toilet by being “temporarily transferred onto a trolley, maintaining their laid-back position at all times.” The experiment is only open to men. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3k3nx5sf
(They had me at $5,000, but lost me at ‘trolley to the toilet’!)

HOW THESE STARS GOT THEIR STAGE NAMES:
☆ Lady Gaga – Stafani Germanotta’s music producer said she reminded him of the Queen hit ‘Radio Ga Ga’. Quote: “He started to call me Gaga when I’d come into the studio…I wanted a new way to reinvent myself. So I said, ‘What about Lady Gaga?’”
☆ Chappell Roan: Kayleigh Amstutz paid tribute to her late grandfather with her pop persona — and also incorporated his favorite song ‘The Strawberry Roan’ by Marty Robbins. Quote: “My grandfather’s name was Dennis K. Chappell, so I took Chappell in his honor.
☆ Post Malone: His real name is Austin Post. When he was 14 and first got into rapping and producing, he needed a name for his first mixtape. Quote: “So I ran (Austin Post) through a random rap name generator and I got Post Malone.”
☆ Emma Stone: A Spice Girls mega fan, Emily Stone chose to honor Emma ‘Baby Spice’ Bunton. Quote: “I was super blonde, and my real name is Emily, but I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice and guess what, now I am!”
☆ Charli XCX: Charlotte Emma Aitchison incorporated the ‘XCX’ part in reference to her MSN Messenger display name as a teen. But what does XCX stand for? “People have speculated that it means ‘Kiss Kiss’, but I really just chose the name because I thought it looked cool and sounded catchy.”
☆ Nicholas Cage: Nicolas Coppola took inspiration from the Marvel character ‘Luke Cage’, as well as musician John Cage. While filming “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”, “people would not stop saying things like, ‘I love the smell of Nicolas in the morning.’” because of his director uncle Francis Ford Coppola’s film “Apocalypse Now”.
☆ Lizzo: Born Melissa Jefferson, she decided to use her teenage nickname. Quote: We did a thing, in Houston, you chop the second half of your name and put an O. I was ‘Lisso’… then everyone said it with a little swang to it so I changed the s’s to z’s and the rest is history.”
☆ Cardi B: Born Belcalis Almanzar, she explained: “My sister’s name is Hennessy, so everybody used to be like ‘Bacardi’ to me. Then I shortened it to Cardi B. “The ‘B’ stands for whatever, depending on the day … beautiful or bully.”
☆ Snoop Dogg: Calvin Broadus Jr’s mother called him Snoopy after the beloved animated beagle. Quote: “My mother would say, ‘You watch [Snoopy the Dog] so much, you startin’ to look like him’. So, she’d call me Snoopy.”

DID YOU KNOW?
Most single parents aren’t just surviving — they’re thriving. According to a new survey, about two-thirds of single parents experience what they call a post-breakup “glow up”. The survey of 1,000 single mothers and 1,000 single fathers found that the end of a relationship can trigger remarkable personal growth. For example, 57% of single parents said they have experienced newfound confidence in their identity. 52% said they feel better about themselves than ever before, and 51% described finally becoming comfortable in their own skin. (The rest? Well, at least they get to stretch out in bed…)

BS CHRONOMETER 03.20.25

BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Spring Arrives”, the new season officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere with the Vernal Equinox today at 5:01am EDT. It also marks the beginning of Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere, although some countries observe the meteorological beginning of Fall on March 1.
SCIENTIFIC REASONS SPRING IS THE MOST DELIGHTFUL SEASON:
– Temperatures are moderate. In many areas over the Winter, they are horrific.
– More daylight. Exposure to sunlight increases serotonin in your brain, making you feel happy.
– Animals and birds that have migrated come back, and they’re having babies everywhere.
– Trees sprout leaves. Spring leaf growth ensures a cool canopy during the hot Summer.
– Plants turn green. It’s amazing what a little sunlight, moisture and warm soil can do for them.
– Flowers bloom. Science has proven that just looking at buttercups can make you happy.
– Your pets shed their extra-thick fur, making them seem trimmer and more full-of-life.
– You can open your windows and allow the breeze to refresh your home.
– You get vitamins naturally. Sunlight triggers your body to produce vitamin D, for instance.
• “Absolutely Incredible Kid Day”, celebrating children by encouraging adults to write them a note or tell them how much they appreciate them, and how incredible they are. A post on social media works, too. (LINK: https://campfire.org/kidday/ )
• “Alien Abductions Day”, honoring all those who claim they’ve been abducted by aliens. (Hey, I’m as fascinated with alien abductions as the next guy, but let’s not get carried away!)
• “Proposal Day”, when both men & women are encouraged to pop the big question. (Make sure you record video, because if it doesn’t go viral, did it really happen?) It’s also…
• “Kiss Your Fiancé Day”. Planning for a wedding can be pretty stressful, but kissing is not. This is a day for engaged couples to take a pause in all their hectic planning and do some serious smooching, instead.
• “Ravioli Day”. There are lots of things that you can put in a ravioli, it’s not just a cheese dish. Today, see if you can make your own unique type. (Butternut squash raviolis are crazy-good!)
• “Atheist Pride Day”, an unofficial salute to non-believers. Many mark the occasion by changing their Facebook profile picture to a stylized capital ‘A’. Green is the chosen color for the day, standing for ‘natural’ as opposed to ‘supernatural’.
• “Hufflepuff Pride Day”. Hufflepuff, one of the 4 houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise, is celebrated today, on the first day of “Hogwarts House Pride Week”, which takes place during Hogwarts House Pride Month. (If you don’t know, you don’t know!)
• “World Storytelling Day”, a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling.
• “Jump Out! Day”. Grab a jump rope and start hopping. This is a day for children to be more active, but there’s no reason adults can’t do it as well. (Actually, I can think of TWO reasons…and they’re both knees!)
• “Won’t You Be My Neighbor Day”, a day to remember and honor Fred Rogers, the iconic children’s TV presenter of “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood”, who was born on this date in 1928.
