• Britney Spears – She’s being accused of stealing 4 white fur coats from a designer following her 26th birthday celebration in Los Angeles LAST WEEKEND. The damage? $28,200.
• Celine Dion – Word has it she’s ready to have another child with 65-year-old husband Rene Angelil. Their son Rene-Charles was born in 2001 after rigorous fertility treatments.
• Paul McCartney – He’s reportedly introduced his 4-year-old daughter Beatrice to his rumored new girlfriend, actress Rosanna Arquette, leading to speculation things are getting serious.
• Radiohead – They’ve announced the free download of their new album, “In Rainbows”, will only be accessible 1 more week. The album’s ‘physical release’ is scheduled for JANUARY 1st.

• “The Eight“ – SATURDAY the first-ever multi-city Hanukkah concert event celebrates the Jewish “Festival of Lights” with parties in NYC, LA, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, Washington DC, Tel Aviv, Mumbai, Moscow, and Sydney. Each venue features music from up-and-coming artists and a unique menorah lighting ceremony.
• “The Girls Next Door” (E!) – SUNDAY a new season of hijinks by Hugh Hefner’s hangers-on debuts. Thanks to the Hollywood writers’ strike, shows like this have an extended shelf life.
• “Movies Rock“ (CBS) – TONIGHT this prerecorded 2-hour special celebrates music’s leading role in filmmaking. Performers include Beyoncé, Carrie Underwood, Chris Brown, Elton John, Fergie, LeAnn Rimes, Mary J Blige, Tony Bennett, and will.i.am. Oscar-winning “Dreamgirls” star Jennifer Hudson was reportedly so disappointed with her performance of “Somewhere” from “West Side Story” at the taping last SUNDAY that she insisted on a re-do after the show.
• Neil Young – He’s the musical guest on a “Saturday Night Live” rerun hosted by actor Jack Black (NBC).
• Snoop Dogg – SUNDAY his new reality show, “Father Hood”, debuts (E!) which follows his day-to-day life as a parent. Word has it he’s really strict. (“You kids put that bong down and get in here and clean up all your weapons!”)
• Taylor Swift – SATURDAY at the Mall of America in Bloomington MN, the country star is on the judging panel to select the winners of the online “Holiday Holla” contest sponsored by teen safety organization Keep the Drive. Participants are competing for $15,000 by rewriting and performing traditional carols with new and catchy lyrics about smart driving.
• “2007 Video Game Awards” (Spike TV) – TONIGHT Samuel L Jackson hosts the taping at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, with the show airing SUNDAY. Among the performers are the Foo Fighters who are featured in “Rock Band”, anticipated to be one of the top games of the year.
• Wayne Newton – TONIGHT he’s on a vintage rerun of the “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC).

TODAY’S MOVIE OPENING:
“The Golden Compass” ( PG-13 Fantasy Adventure ): Nicole Kidman & Daniel Craig star in this bigscreen adaptation of the Philip Pullman bestseller. The idea is to release a trilogy a la “Lord of the Rings”. In this first chapter, a young student (13-year-old British newcomer Dakota Blue Richards) journeys to the far north to save her best friend whom she fears has been kidnapped by a secret organization. The other 2 books in the “His Dark Materials“ series, “The Subtle Knife” and “The Amber Spyglass”, have already been optioned for the bigscreen.

THE DIET HABIT:
Monks on a remote peninsula in northern Greece have been found to have one of the lowest cancer rates anywhere in the world. After closely scrutinizing their diet and lifestyle, researchers believe that low-stress living and avoiding certain foods is the key. The austere regime of the 1,500 monks includes pre-dawn meditation and a simple diet consisting of home-grown vegetables and fruit with the occasional fish dish but no meat. DOLPHINS ON THE MAKE:
For human males flowers and chocolates are typically used to woo females but for dolphins it seems the equivalent is … a bunch of weeds. New research shows that male dolphins carry pieces of plants and twigs to impress females. Object-carrying as part of sexual display is rare in the animal kingdom, with only humans and chimpanzees doing anything similar. (Apparently coughing up a hairball doesn’t count.)

JACKPOT IN JEOPARDY:
The winner of a $1-million lottery scratch ticket in Massachusetts may not be so lucky after all. 55-year-old Timothy Elliott is due in court TODAY to face charges of violating probation. He’s a convicted bank robber who isn’t supposed to gamble. His crime? Buying a $10-lottery ticket for the $800 Million Spectacular game at a supermarket in Hyannis. • This may be the best idea since the ‘New Coke’. Children at the Steiner School in Brighton, England have been told that their ‘Father Christmas’ (Britain’s version of Santa) will be wearing a green suit this year. Why? So as not to remind pupils of Coca-Cola ads.

A 22-year-old University of Montana student has been charged with assault after shoving a pumpkin pie in the face of a shopping-mall Santa and shouting, “What do you think of that, Santa?” The drama student claims he had the stunt videotaped and was going to ask his no-longer-jolly victim to sign a film release form.

• Should Santa have a 6-pack? The USA’s top doc has launched a crusade to put Kris Kringle on a diet because … he’s setting a bad example to children. Acting Surgeon General Steven Galson says it’s important that those who kids look up to serve as role models who are in good shape, eating well and getting exercise. Surprisingly, the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas has agreed, asking its 800 members to lose weight in order to set a better example.

HOW TO LOWER YOUR PULSE:
“Desert Bus” is widely recognized as the most boring video game of all-time. It involves driving a bus from Tucson AZ to Las Vegas NV in real-time at a maximum speed of 45 mph, an 8-hour trip. The bus has no passengers, the desert has no scenery, and if you don’t steer properly the bus will veer off the road and be towed back to Tucson … also in real-time. A successful trip scores you a single point and the option of making the return trip for another point. According to masochists who’ve successfully completed the mission, the only excitement in the game comes at the 5-hour mark when a bug splats on the windshield.
