Ah, Some BS You Look Forward To In the Morning!

WEEKEND TABLOID & BLOG BS:
• Hard Rock Café is getting into the amusement park business, opening a 140-acre, $400-million theme park in Myrtle Beach SC NEXT SPRING. The world’s first park celebrating the spirit of rock & roll will feature over 40 attractions in 6 unique zones dedicated to rock culture, lifestyle, legends and irreverence. There’ll also be a multi-purpose live music amphitheater. (What attractions would be in a rock ‘n roll amusement park? ‘The Publicity Merry-Go-Round’, ‘The DUI Drop’, ‘Rehab Roller Coaster’, ‘The Groupie Grope’?)

• 26-year-old Paris Hilton is now expected to be released from Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood CA TOMORROW. Her neighbors, who have filed more than 50 complaints about noise & press obstruction to their homes since she was incarcerated, are worried the media will disturb their peace even more when she returns to her Hollywood Hills home. As many as 5 helicopters have been observed circling the house. (The Sheriff’s Office wouldn’t announce a release for tomorrow then quietly slip her out today … would they?)
– SFGate.com
• BTW, Paris  Hilton’s first exclusive post-jail appearance will not be on ABC or NBC-TV (both passed after getting into a bidding war) but instead will be WEDNESDAY night on “Larry King Live”. (He’d interview a dead snake if it would generate ratings.)
• Now that he’s 25, Britain’s Prince William has access to a reported $500,000-a-year of his late mother Princess Diana’s multimillion-pound fortune. He also has access to interest and other income accrued on the $13 million he was left by his mother, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997. As well as the extra money, William can also now marry without the consent of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. (Perhaps that’s why rumors are flying that he & former gf Kate Middleton are dating again.)
– “Cosmopolitan”
• Wed on the weekend: “Extreme Makeover” plastic surgeon Garth Fisher & former “Playboy” model Jessica Canseco, in front of 50 guests at their mansion in Bel-Air CA. Entertainment provided by Cirque du Soleil. Other acrobatics followed. (This is why a doctor goes on reality TV … so he can marry a centerfold.)
– “People”
• SATURDAY rapper Foxy Brown was attacked in NYC by 3 female ‘friends’ of her ex-boyfriend. The lady thugs reportedly yanked out her hearing aid, tore out chunks of her hair weave, and stole her handbag containing $500. Foxy allegedly dumped Roshawn Anthony after finding out he was a pimp. After the attack, she drove around with NYPD until they located him. He’s been arrested and charged with assault. (This woman’s life is better than “The Young & the Restless”!)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Bob Dylan – Fans are being encouraged to participate in an online vote as to which songs make a 3-disc retrospective & companion greatest hits album due for release OCTOBER 1st.
NET: http://dylan07.com/
• Duran Duran – The geezer rockers recently played a special gig for their fan club at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC that frankly, well … sucked. Even Nick Rhodes says it was their worst gig ever, rife with forgotten lyrics and wrong sample tracks.
• Keith Urban – He’s just been added to the “Live Earth” NYC concert JULY 7th, joining a roster that includes Alicia Keys, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, the Police and many others.
• Kenny Chesney – His new album, “Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates”, has just been slated for release on SEPTEMBER 11th.
• LeAnn Rimes – Her cover  version of “Are You Ready for a Miracle” is featured in the closing credits of the new Steve Carell movie, “Evan Almighty”.
• Queen – New frontman Paul Rodgers confirms they’ve recorded 9 songs and there are plans to return to the studio in OCTOBER to do more work. There could be a resulting album as soon as early 2008.
• Salt-N-Pepa – VH1 has announced an upcoming 10-episode series will follow the female rap/dance group as they attempt to reunite. They’re best known for the hits “Push It” (1989) and “Whatta Man” (1994).

TODAY’S SHOW BIZ SKED:
• “Dora Mavor Moore Awards” – Toronto’s annual salute to its best theater productions are presented at the Winter Garden Theatre, with the musicals “Seussical” and “We Will Rock You” leading nominations for ‘Doras’ with 8 apiece.
• 50 Cent – His paternal support case resumes in NYC as he accuses ex-girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins of making ‘insatiable’ demands for the care of their 10-year-old son. In APRIL, Fiddy’s support payments were bumped by an extra $15,000-a-month and now she’s asking for more.
• Jet – TONIGHT the Aussie band does “Last Call With Carson Daly” (NBC).
• Jimmy Jean-Louis (“Heroes”) & Regina King (“24”) are among a group of performers getting HIV tests at the Screen Actors Guild HQ in LA as part of “1 in a Million”, a new campaign to raise awareness of the spread of the virus in black communities.
• Joss Stone – TODAY she’s a guest on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” (syndicated/CityTV).
• Kelly Clarkson – THIS MORNING she visits “Live With Regis & Kelly” (syndicated/CTV). She’ll no doubt address the rumor that she’ll be joining THIS SUMMER’s “American Idol” tour for select dates, something her publicist has flat-out denied but others claim is a possibility.
• Mary J Blige – TONIGHT she receives ASCAP’s ‘Voice of Music Award’ at the organization’s 20th annual “Rhythm & Soul Music Awards” in Los Angeles.
• Ozzy Osbourne – TONIGHT he rocks “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC/CityTV).
• Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – TONIGHT the “FACE DOWN” folks perform on the “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC/A Channel).
• Tom Sizemore – The oft-rehabbed actor is scheduled to be sentenced on probation violation and various drug charges. LAST WEEK he openly wept in court, begging the judge, “I don’t want to go to jail … give me one more chance.” It was some of his best-ever acting.

SERVING TENNIS BALLS:
Scientists in Italy have started clinical trials on a diet pill which expands into a gelatinous blob about the size of a tennis ball inside your stomach. The pill starts out as a capsule full of dry powder but absorbs up to 1,000 times its weight when it gets wet. Lead researcher Luigi Ambrosio says the effect is like eating a nice plate of pasta. When your stomach feels full, you end up eating less. (And you thought your muffin top looked funny before …)

According to a new poll by online retailer Amazon, these are the crappiest film trilogies (or more) that have ever been made …

4. “Crocodile Dundee”
3. “American Pie”
2. “I Know What You Did Last Summer”
1. “Look Who’s Talking”

RAISING CANE:
Sugar could become the world’s dominant bio-fuel source, according to a new University of Wisconsin study. Scientists say that a catalyzed version of fructose or glucose has the potential to replace ethanol as the most readily available and commonly used alternative to traditional fossil fuels. (You know what this means? Instead of the Middle East, war in the Caribbean!)
– PA News

PRICIEST PLACES:
According to Mercer Human Resource Consulting, these are currently the most expensive cities for foreign employees to live and work in …
5. Hong Kong, China
4. Tokyo. Japan
3. Seoul, South Korea
2. London, England
1. Moscow, Russia
Canada’s most expensive: Toronto (#82), followed by Vancouver (#89), Calgary (#92), and Ottawa (#109).
Only 2 US cities are in the top 50: NYC (#15) and LA (#42). Sydney is the lone Australian city at #21.

THE NEED FOR NAMES:
In China, over a billion people share less than 100 surnames. For instance, there are 93 million with the surname ‘Wang’; 92 million called ‘Li’; and 88 million named ‘Zhang’. China’s most popular full name – Wang Tao – is shared by 100,000 people. All this duplication causes endless confusion for government bureaucracies. That’s why the government has finally proposed a new law allowing parents to combine their surnames for their children, and also add special letters and/or characters from China’s ethnic minorities, opening up a potential 1.28 million new possibilities. (Such as Wang-Jolie-Pitt Tao.)

DANGEROUS JOBS:
According to the US National Consumers League, these are the most hazardous summer jobs for teens …

4. Driver/Operator (forklifts, tractors, ATVs).
3. Outside Helper (landscaping, groundskeeping, lawn service).
2. Construction (and work in heights).
1. Agriculture (fieldwork, processing).

BS AMAZING FACT:
• “National Geographic” reports the Amazon River turns out to be 284 km (176 mi) longer than it was previously thought to be, which would make it the longest river in the world. Brazilian scientists have now measured its total length at 6,799.5 km (4,225 mi). The Nile River is therefore now #2, at 6,695 km (4,160 mi).
• Jell-O used to come in celery flavor that never caught on. It was intended for use in salads.
• Psychologists say a typical healthy person has 6.4 ‘action slips’ during an average week … what most of us would call screw-ups.

SHE SAID IT:
• “Both sides of my family are all in MENSA. It skipped me.”
– Pamela Anderson, telling a reporter she missed out on her rel’s super-smart genes.
• “I’m going to look into opening a chain of strip clubs and I’ll call them Lapland!”
– Pamela Anderson on her personal blog, providing further proof of the first quote.
