BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jeff Lowe, one of the stars of the Netflix documentary series “Tiger King,” says that Netflix is planning to release a new episode of the show this week. Lowe, who owns the Oklahoma zoo that Joe Exotic once ran — that is featured in the docuseries — sent a video message to Los Angeles Dodgers player Justin Turner last week, following an episode of a podcast hosted by Turner’s wife, Kourtney. The message said: “Netflix is adding one more episode…They’re filming here tomorrow.” It’s unclear what the nature of the new “Tiger King” episode will be — either a continuation or a reunion of the existing docu-series.

★ With the coronavirus pandemic continuing, restaurants and the people who work in them have been hit particularly hard financially. Now, celebrity chef Guy Fieri wants to help. He’s partnered with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation to help raise funds for workers who have found themselves unemployed and in dire financial straits. Fieri says, “We’re going to try to get $500 to every employee, right now, the wind needs to swing toward the people that have been serving us for so many years. Now it’s time for us to serve them.”

★ Louis C.K. has released his first stand-up special since he was accused of sexual misconduct during the height of the #MeToo movement. The special, called “Sincerely Louis C.K.,” is available for purchase for $7.99 on his website for download and streaming, and purchase of the special also provides a one-year license to stream other digital content on his site. His last special, “2017” was released not long before the accusations against him came to light.

★ Dr. Drew Pinsky is apologizing after continually downplaying the danger of coronavirus for months and claiming it was “press-induced panic.” At one point, he said that you’re more likely to die after being “hit by an asteroid” than the highly-contagious virus. On Saturday, he drastically changed his tune, saying: “My early comments about equating coronavirus with influenza were wrong. They were incorrect. I was part of a chorus that was saying that, and we were wrong. And I want to apologize for that.”

HAND OFF:
We’re washing our hands, staying at home, and standing 6 feet apart when we do need to go out. What else can we do to limit the spread of Covid-19? Don’t touch your face, of course. But studies show that on average, people touch their face about 23 times an hour. So how do we stop? Susan Michie, the director of the Centre for Behaviour Change at University College London, says the most effective way to avoid touching your face is to make it impossible. She suggests wearing a head net, similar to what you might wear to protect yourself from mosquito bites. They’re comfortable, and your mind becomes aware of the barrier, so you learn not to reach for your face. Alternately, Michie suggests making a conscious effort to keep your hands below shoulder level at all times and train yourself to resist the urge to touch your face. Or you can come up with a “counter-habit”. Teach yourself to notice that your hand is moving toward your face, and when it does, divert it and redirect it – perhaps by scratching the back of your head instead.
(I would, but it keeps getting caught in the netting!)
(If you were isolated with my family, you’d know that there’s no way I’m ever going to be able to stop facepalming!)
(Maybe I could stop touching my face if they’d just stop reminding me!!)

ON SAIL:
A lone Canadian man who is on a multi-year trip sailing around the world just might be the safest person on earth. Bert terHart (***CORRECT***) sailed out of Victoria, BC in October, on his 40′ sailboat. His goal is to circumnavigate the globe non-stop, without the aid of any electronic navigational devices. At the beginning of April, he was near Australia, about two-thirds of the way through his journey. The trip was to have lasted six months, but delays due to extreme weather has stretched it to eight months. Coincidentally, Bert is now unofficially the “safest person on the planet”, bobbing alone at sea while everyone else on earth is worried about getting too close to others in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
(Plus, he has lots of toilet paper!)
(That’s what I call “social distancing”!)
(In fact, the only person in history less likely to experience human contact was me on prom night!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Scientists say that “lockdown loneliness” can cause cravings in your brain which are similar to hunger. A new study by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology shows that both loneliness and hunger trigger deep centers of the human brain eliciting feelings of desire and craving. Their findings suggest that the need for social interaction is as primordial as the need to eat.
