BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Kris Jenner says Blac Chyna tried to murder Rob Kardashian. Jenner became emotional while testifying in court, recalling a volatile 2016 argument she heard about between her son and his then-girlfriend Chyna. She said she was told that Chyna pointed a gun at Kardashian’s head, tried to strangle him with a phone cord and hit him with a metal pole while intoxicated. Jenner is the first of 4 defendants, including her daughters Kim and Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner, to testify in Chyna’s $100 million lawsuit alleging the women conspired to have her reality show “Rob & Chyna” canceled and damage her celebrity status.

★ Will Smith made his first appearance since the Oscars slapping incident last month, showing up at a private airport in India. Smith landed in Mumbai on Saturday, where he was greeted by a group of paparazzi who were awaiting his arrival. The “King Richard” star appeared in good spirits, and even took a moment to pose for pictures with a few fans, including one airport security guard.

★ Bill Murray is being accused of inappropriate behavior toward women on set of “Being Mortal.” Production on the 71-year-old comedy legend’s movie was shut down last week after a complaint was reportedly filed against the actor. A source was quoted as saying Murray “was very hands-on touchy, not in any personal areas, but put an arm around a woman, touched her hair, pulled her ponytail — but always in a comedic way.” The source went on to say that “everybody loves Bill, but while his conduct is not illegal, some women felt uncomfortable and he crossed a line.” No word yet from Murray’s reps.

★ “Jeopardy!” has a brand-new winner on the books. 23-year-old Mattea Roach scored her 14th win on Friday, earning a spot among the top contestants on the long-running game show. Roach took home $34,000 during the episode, binging her prize money to a whopping $320,081 total. The Toronto-based tutor cemented her position in the “Jeopardy!” record books by becoming 8th on the all-time consecutive games list, and 10th on the all-time highest non-tournament cash winnings list — so far. Across her 14 games, Roach has answered 93% of her clues correctly.

NETFLIX: NOT CHILL ON PASSWORD SHARING:
Netflix not only announced last week that it plans to introduce commercials to the streaming service, it said that it will finally make good on its plans to crack down on password sharing. How? The company will likely introduce an extra fee for subscribers whose accounts are being used by multiple people outside of the home. The company has already started a test of this feature in Peru, Costa Rica and Chile. Netflix is charging an additional fee to add “sub accounts” for up to 2 people outside the home. The pricing is US $2.13-2.99 per month. Industry observers say the company starts with an alert sent to account holders whose password are being used in other households, advising them of their options, and that people who use a shared password can transfer profile to either a new account or a sub account, allowing them to keep their viewing history and recommendations. Netflix says more than 100 million households are using a shared password.
(…just in case you were looking for a good reason to contact your ex…!)
(Does the price for a sub account go up every year, too?)

BLASTING FASTING:
If you’re taking part in the intermittent fasting trend to lose weight, you might as well go grab a sandwich. A study published Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine found that time-restricted eating, where participants only allow themselves food inside a window of as little as 6 hours per day, is no more effective than traditional calorie counting. Researchers in China followed 139 patients with obesity for 12 months. One group was put on time-restricted eating – with calorie restriction, and the other was just put on a restricted calorie diet. Both groups lost an average of 14-18 pounds (6.4-8.2 kg). There was also barely a difference in BMI, waist circumference, body fat or metabolic risk factors.
(Someone had better tell Gwyneth Paltrow to update her website!)
(I’d NEVER starve myself for 18 hours a day just to lose weight. If it also made be fabulously wealthy and devastatingly handsome — then maybe…)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ Ground was broken on Earth Day (Fri.) for the world’s biggest wildlife crossing. Spanning over 10 lanes of the 101 freeway in the Los Angeles area, the historic Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing will be a global model for urban wildlife conservation. 2,700 mostly private donors raised $15 million for the construction of the 165-foot crossing in Liberty Canyon, where some of the wealthiest Hollywood celebs live. The crossing will preserve biodiversity by re-connecting an integral wildlife corridor for such diverse species as bobcats, foxes, deer, lizards, and most critically, help save a threatened local population of mountain lions from extinction. (Plus, it’ll be a way for Gary Busey to safely cross the road!)
➢ Imagine the faces on the staff at the Idaho Human Society when 9-year-old Ben Miller stopped in and dropped off a plastic bag filled with $1,150 in cash. He’s been raising money through a lemonade stand since visiting the shelter in 2019 and noticing that some cats didn’t have toys. Ben’s mom, Amy, says he spent hours selling lemonade — even offering lavender flavor — alongside treats like cookies, and has raised over $2,000 in total. Some people have traveled nearly an hour to get refreshments and make a donation, and others have sent money online. A rep from the shelter said they’re in the middle of kitten season, and every dollar they can get helps pay for medical care, food, and yes, toys.

WEIRD AIR:
Unusual airlines that actually existed . . .
⇒ Pet Airways: Founded in Florida in 2009, it was exclusively dedicated to pets such as cats and dogs — or “pawsengers”. They flew, without their owners, in aircraft in which the seats had been replaced with carriers. Although it went broke in 2012, its website claims flights will return later this year. (Sounds like they’ve got another dog in the flight!)
⇒ The Lord’s Airline: No alcohol on board, Bibles instead of in-flight magazines, only religious movies, and 25% of all fares going to finance missionary work. These were all features of The Lord’s Airline, founded in 1985. The plan was to have 3 weekly flights to the Holy Land from Miami, but by 1987 the airline lost its FAA license, and it fizzled in a sea of financial controversy.
⇒ Smokers Express: After smoking was banned on domestic US flights in 1990, 2 Florida men decided to circumvent the rule by establishing an airline based on a private club. It required a $25 membership fee, with the plan to offer steaks and burgers on board, with a side of free cigarettes. The airline never received a license to operate, and though it sold over 5,000 memberships, it disappeared in a puff of smoke.
⇒ MGM Grand Air: In 1987, it billed itself as a first-class only, superluxury airline that carried no more than 33 passengers. It promised special lounges at airports with concierge service, no lineups or check-ins, and porters to fetch your luggage. On board was a stand-up bar and private compartments for meetings. Full meal service with fine wine and champagne was always available, and the restroom had golden faucets. But in the 90s, as private jets became popular, the airline was sold.
⇒ Hooters Air: Yup, modelled on the restaurant chain famous for its tank-top and short orange shorts-wearing servers. The airline also had “Hooters girls” on board to mingle with passengers and host games, but food service was handled by actual flight attendants. And, yes, the planes did feature the same famous googly-eyed owl logo made famous by the restaurant.

DID YOU KNOW?
Nearly every afternoon from September to March, a thunderstorm develops over the Tiwi Islands in northern Australia. In fact, it happens so regularly, the Bureau of Meteorology actually refers to it by name — Hector. At 3pm daily, people are known to line the shores of Darwin, about 100km (62 miles) away, just to snap pictures of the storm forming. “Hector” also known as “Hector the Convector,” is one of the world’s most consistently large thunderstorms, reaching heights of approximately 20km (66,000 ft).
