BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Antonio Banderas revealed he has tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, his 60th birthday. In Spanish, he tweeted: “I want to make it public that today, Aug. 10, I am forced to celebrate my 60th birthday in quarantine, having tested positive for the COVID-19 disease, caused by the coronavirus.” He went on to say that he plans to spend his time in isolation reading, writing, resting and “making plans to begin to give meaning” to his 60 years.

★ HBO is teaming up with Judd Apatow for a documentary on legendary comedian George Carlin. The two-part film will feature interviews with Carlin’s family and friends, material from his stand-up specials and TV appearances, as well as his personal archive. Carlin, who died in 2008, is one of the most famous and influential comedians and social critics in American history. He filmed 14 stand-up specials for HBO and appeared on “The Tonight Show” more than 130 times. Carlin also hosted the debut episode of “Saturday Night Live” in 1975.

★ “CSI” is coming back to TV and it’s bringing along some familiar faces. Reportedly, original series stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox are in negotiations to star in the event series revival “CSI: Vegas”. They played fan-favourite couple Grissom and Sara. Along with the returning stars, the new series will feature four new main characters. Originally, the plan was for “CSI: Vegas” to air in time for the show’s 20th anniversary in October, but it’s been delayed due to the pandemic. The plan now is for filming to begin this fall. (Right after they find another song by The Who to use for a theme…)

★ MacGruber is officially back in action. The streaming service Peacock has issued an eight-episode order for a half-hour series, which will be an adaptation of the 2010 feature film of the same name. The show will see Will Forte reprise the role he created while on “Saturday Night Live.” The program will see the character MacGruber, described as America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot, being released from prison after more than a decade. His new mission is to take down a mysterious villain from his past, while racing against time with the entire world in the crosshairs. Forte will also write and executive produce.

Oh, and he could face an election-fraud investigation.

• Fleetwood Mac – Ex-guitarist Lindsey Buckingham sang publicly for the first time since his 2019 open-heart surgery, which damaged his vocal cords. The Zoom performance for computer software company Nutanix showed Buckingham deliver a four-song set from his home studio, including Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Never Going Back Again’ and ‘Big Love’, and his solo songs ‘Trouble’ and ‘Shut Us Down’. • Kane Brown – will release the seven-song EP “Mixtape Vol. 1” on Friday. It will include his current single ‘Cool Again’, the timely ‘Worldwide Beautiful’, a song released in the wake of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis, plus three songs that fans haven’t heard before.
• Rascal Flatts – has released the seven-song EP “How They Remember You.” It includes six unreleased songs plus a recently-released rendition of Kenny Rogers’ ‘Through the Years’. The group’s farewell tour was interrupted by the pandemic.

BAD NEWS:
If your morning breakfast routine includes some TV time to catch the news or watch that show you TiVoed last night, that could be the reason you’re gaining weight. (If you’re gaining weight, that is!). Noted registered dietitian nutritionists and personal trainers The Nutrition Twins (Lyssie Lakatos and Tammy Lakatos Shames) say that when you eat a meal while watching TV, you are distracting your brain. This can lead to overeating because you aren’t allowing your brain to alert you that you are satiated. Plus, studies have shown that watching television during a meal can also significantly slow your metabolism, causing you to burn calories at a slower pace than you normally would.
(I’m pretty sure that TV can distract you from how much you’re eating at any time of the day. Which explains the 3 missing bags of chips at my place!)
(I don’t watch TV while I’m eating breakfast because I’m much too busy driving!)
(In 2020, I think we should be more concerned with people drinking while watching the news!)

AD ME:
According to a new report, when it comes to social media, Facebook and Instagram subject their users to the most ads, and TikTok users see the fewest. An analysis of almost 9,000 social media posts from 175 different accounts determined that Facebook’s newsfeed averages 21.2% ads, Instagram 20.6% and LinkedIn 19.6%. Twitter averages 14.2%, while TikTok has just 2.4%. But these percentages don’t take into account peak ad saturation, or the highest percentage of ads shown to a user on their feed. The average user sees about one ad for every five posts, but at their worst, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter can jump above four ads for every 10 posts (42%).
(Of course, soon you’ll be seeing a lot more ads on TikTok — “For Sale” ads…)

GOLD-STANDARD FACE MASK:
An Israeli jewelry company says it is making the world’s most expensive coronavirus mask – to the tune of US$1.5 million. The 18-carat gold mask will be decorated with 3,600 white and black diamonds and fitted with top-rated N99 filters. Designer Isaac Levy of the Yvel company says person who ordered the mask has asked that it be completed by the end of the year, and requested that it be the most expensive mask in the world. The buyer hasn’t been identified, but Levy did reveal that he is a Chinese businessman who is living in the United States.
(Whose business apparently hasn’t been hurt by the pandemic!)
(Just a hunch, but I don’t think this guy will be one of those jerks who throws his mask in the middle of the Wal Mart parking lot!)
(Most expensive mask in the world? Does someone want to check with Iron Man about this??

HOW TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION WHILE WORKING REMOTELY:
➢ Find new ways to celebrate your achievements:  Keep your manager aware of accomplishments with a weekly recap. If you have a regular team meeting, include a round-robin of each person’s biggest accomplishment. (Well, I managed to shower before this week’s Zoom call…)
➢ Don’t be camera shy:  While it’s tempting to leave your camera off during video conferences, turning it on shows your commitment to your team and that you’re fully present. Remember: Out of sight, out of mind. (With my boss, that’s exactly what I want to be!)
➢ Volunteer for special projects:  Many co-workers may feel that being off-site means that they can avoid working hard. After taking on additional responsibility, arrange a regular call with your boss to touch base on the undertaking. This is a great time to bond and build a stronger relationship.
➢ Forward any glowing reviews to your superiors:  It’s a great reminder of what an indispensable team member you are, without the bother of a phone call or a long email. And you could be positioning yourself for a raise or promotion. It can also help your case when annual evaluations come around. (And since you’re working from home, maybe you have some extra time to fake a glowing review!)
➢ Network within your organization:  Challenge yourself to schedule two or three virtual coffee dates per month with people you haven’t connected with before. Don’t be shy about sending blind e-mails to execs and peers on different teams, which could help you create a long-term strategic ally for down the line. (“Oh God, there’s Larry – the weirdo who has way too much spare time…”)

DID YOU KNOW?
A University of Manchester study found that people who stand above six feet tall are at nearly double the risk for COVID-19 transmission. The report, based on an analysis of 2,000 participants, found that the taller a person is, the higher their chance of coming into contact with active viral particles, which are believed to remain active for at least three hours while suspended airborne. (This does not bode well for the upcoming NBA playoffs…)
