Monthly Planning Calendar in Today’s Edition!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
TODAY in Cuba, jailed punk rocker Gorki Aguila, an outspoken critic of the government, goes on trial for ‘social dangerousness’, a charge that could carry up to 4 years in prison (but more likely a swift burst of lead to the head) . . . Sean Combs says he’s no longer using his private jet because the NY-to-LA round trip can eat up as much as $250,000, thanks to skyhigh fuel prices (aw, pity poor Diddy) . . . 8-gold-medal Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps will host the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” (NBC) SEPTEMBER 13th, featuring musical guest Lil Wayne (if he’s not in jail) . . . NBC-TV likes its geek-action-comedy “Chuck” so much, it’s giving it a guaranteed full 2nd season even before any new episodes air (debuts SEPTEMBER 29th) . . . “The Muppet Show” may return to TV after 27 years if an as-yet-untitled new Disney film is well received (the last Muppets movie was “Muppets From Space” in 1999) . . . In her new humbly-titled book, “I Amaze Myself!”, actor Matthew McConaughey’s mom Kay McConaughey reveals that her actor son wasn’t planned and that her late husband died ‘in flagrante’ (who the heck is ‘Flagrante’?) . . . Reports say E! has pulled the plug on Denise Richard’s reality show “It’s Complicated” (a Ryan Seacrest production), but the network says ‘decisions are still being made on a 2nd season’ (BS translation: We wouldn’t want her kids to go unemployed!) . . . And the 3-bedroom NYC loft where actor Heath Ledger died is now up for lease and apparently the landlord thinks tragedy is good for business – jacking the already pricey rent an additional 4-grand to $26,000 per month (what a ‘Joker’!).

WEEKEND SHOW BIZ SKED:
• “Country Rocks 2008” – SATURDAY in Halifax, Keith Urban headlines an outdoor concert on the Halifax Commons that also features Charlie Major and Aaron Pritchett.

BS MUSIC NOTES:

It’s unclear how he got his hands of the material but the tunes were quickly taken down. He’ll face charges in an upcoming court date after posting bail.
• Natasha Bedingfield – The Brit pop singer (“Unwritten”) has been signed as the spokesperson for the upcoming Electronic Arts video game, “Boogie SuperStar”. Made for Nintendo’s Wii, it’s a karaoke game that also captures players’ dance moves onscreen.
• TI – He’s set a new record for biggest jump to the top of the “Billboard” ‘Hot 100′ chart as his single “Whatever You Like” has soared from #71 to #1 in its 3rd week.

TODAY’S MOVIE OPENINGS:

The further complication is that his client is carrying a synthetic virus which could bring about the end of humanity. Co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Mélanie Thierry. Shot in Sweden and the Czech Republic.

• “College” ( R-Rated Comedy ): When 3 high school seniors visit a local college campus as prospective freshmen, a wild weekend ensues. Stars Drake Bell (Nickelodeon’s “Drake & Josh”) and Kevin Covais (the geeky guy who developed a following on “American Idol” in 2006). Shot in New Orleans LA.

HOW TO LIVE LONGER:
A newly released study concludes that men from polygamous cultures outlive men who are only allowed to have one wife at a time. The research compares data from 140 countries that allow polygamy and 49 mostly monogamous nations. After accounting for socio-economic differences, it’s been found that men who have more than 1 wife live an average of 12% longer than their monogamous counterparts. (Or maybe it just SEEMS longer?)

ANIMAL MAGNETISM?
Have you ever noticed that herds of grazing animals all face the same way? That’s the claims of scientists who’ve used images from Google Earth to confirm that cattle tend to align their bodies in a north-south direction. Wild deer also seem to display the behavior, a phenomenon that has apparently gone unnoticed by herdsmen and hunters for thousands of years. Researchers think Earth’s magnetic fields may be what influences the animals. (When you’re hiking in the woods, always take a heifer with you.)

TO CHEAT IS A TREAT:
German psychologist Dr Michael Mary, author of the new book “Five Lies Concerning Love”, claims that trying to create a fulfilling love life in a long-term relationship is a futile exercise. To have trust and harmony and at the same time the level of passion and desire one experiences on the first day of a relationship simply doesn’t exist, he says. Mary suggests the easiest way for married folks to add some excitement to their boring love lives is to … cheat on their partners. (Does that mean the plural of spouse is spice?)
