Thanks a Sheetload for Choosing “BS”!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Alec Baldwin has doubled down on his claim that he never pulled the trigger of the gun that discharged, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. The FBI recently released a report stating that the incident could not have taken place without the trigger being pulled. Baldwin spoke with Chris Cuomo on his new show “The Chris Cuomo Project”, and although it appears as though the interview was conducted before the FBI’s report went public, Cuomo asked Baldwin how he’s been navigating the situation nearly a year after it took place, and the actor responded that he is not the real victim here, Hutchins is. He maintained that he did not pull the trigger and noted that everyone on the set of the production was shocked and “confused” by what happened. Baldwin’s lawyer has responded to the FBI report, saying that it was being “misconstrued.”

★ Angelina Jolie has seemingly been identified as the “Jane Doe” who sued the FBI, questioning why an investigation into her then-husband Brad Pitt was closed after allegations of physical and verbal assault in 2016. According to Puck News, Jolie is the unnamed plaintiff in the suit, which had long been speculated, given the timeline and the events described. The suit demanded the bureau turn over documents related to an investigation into Pitt, after Jolie alleged that he had “physically and verbally assaulted” her and their children while traveling on a private plane “several years ago.” Pitt has denied the allegations of physical abuse, and no charges were ever filed. He and Jolie divorced shortly after the alleged incident on the plane. Reps for Jolie and the FBI have not commented.

★ If you enjoyed “Top Gun: Maverick”, you’ll probably enjoy it with 110 minutes of bonus material.  Paramount has announced a digital release date of Aug. 23 for the #1 movie of the year, with the film hitting 4K Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD on Nov. 1. As part of the release, there are 110 minutes of bonus features, including music videos for the soundtrack songs by Lady Gaga and OneRepublic; various short featurettes, and the Masterclass with Tom Cruise from the Cannes Film Festival (running a whopping 49 minutes and said to be the most essential special feature). The continued success of “Top Gun: Maverick” means instead of the typical 45-day window before debuting on streaming services and PVOD, it simply remained in theaters, collecting record-breaking revenue and delighting movie fans enough to make it the #2 movie at the box office last weekend, months after its May release.

★ And we can all breathe a sigh of relief — despite reports, Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox have NOT broken up. Fox has been posting pics online without MGK recently, with their last upload together back in June, and some fans took his absence as a sign they had split. She also didn’t show up to his hometown show in Cleveland over the weekend, which also fueled the breakup rumors. But sources say the couple is doing just fine — they just aren’t able to be together 24/7 — as both of them work and have kids. In fact, in video posted to Instagram by a fan account from Kelly’s Cleveland concert shows him saying that he talked to Megan before he got on stage, and referring to her as his “wife”, which he’s said before. Earlier in the show, he got so amped up that he smashed a wine glass on his face, creating a bloody mess. (So, everything is normal in MGK/Megan-land…)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele – says her 9-year-old son Angelo is an “obsessed” Billie Eilish fan. In an Elle cover story, Adele said QUOTE: “He’ll go up to [his room] after school and read all the lyrics…and then he’ll want to discuss them.” Adele went home to London to take her son to see Eilish in concert after a trip to New York.
• BLACKPINK – with their highly anticipated comeback single ‘Pink Venom’ dropping tomorrow, the girl group has released the first official trailer for the song’s video. It starts with dust blowing in the wind, then cuts to an ornate blade being sharpened by a moving whetstone. Next, we see several black-hooded figures sitting motionless on the ground… LINK: https://tinyurl.com/347kp7af
• Goo Goo Dolls – Their 1998 #1 hit ‘Iris’ (from the film “city of Angels”) recently hit 1 billion streams on Spotify. The band is currently touring to promote their 13th album “Chaos in Bloom”.
• INXS – Tuesday, to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the band’s first concert, they announced the previously unreleased “Live at the US Festival, 1983”, will drop Oct. 28 on vinyl and CD. The same day, they’ll issue a 40th-anniversary edition of 1982’s “Shabooh Shoobah”, available as a digital deluxe box set and limited-edition clear vinyl. Both are available to preorder at the INXS site.
• Olivia Newton-John — Audio and video streams for her music skyrocketed by 614% to 11.3 million for the week ending Aug. 11, compared to the week prior. That’s more impressive given that her death was announced well into the chart week, meaning the figures represent just 4 days of heightened activity.
• Taylor Swift — The Nashville Songwriters Association International has announced that it will honor her as its ‘Songwriter-Artist of the Decade’ on September 20 during the 5th annual Nashville Songwriter Awards. Swift, who writes or co-writes all of her songs, has nabbed 11 Grammys, and is the only female artist in history to win the Grammy for Album of the Year 3 times.
• Maren Morris – has officially announced her new collaboration with German DJ-producer Zedd. Her single ‘Make You Say’ featuring Zedd and BEAUZ [Bernie and Johan Young], will drop tomorrow. Morris and Zedd’s 2018 collab ‘The Middle’ went 6x platinum, and accumulated 1 billion streams. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2msuaeju
• Tracy Lawrence – has paid it forward once again. 4 months after his second “Mission: Possible Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament” he hand-delivered the $430,000 in donations to support the homeless in middle Tennessee. A-listers who participated to raise money and awareness included Charles Kelley, Jake Owen, Jordan Davis, HARDY, ERNEST, Deana Carter, Mitchell Tenpenny, Jamey Johnson, and Colt Ford.

SHOOTING THE BULL

FACEBOOK FACEPLANT:
If you watch any show featuring teenagers, you’ve probably seen some variation on the joke that comes up when Facebook is mentioned. The kids either say, “No one uses Facebook anymore,” or “What’s Facebook?” An exaggeration? Sure, but maybe not by much. According to the Pew Research Center, which regularly researches tech-usage, the favorite social media platform of US teens aged 13-17 during April and May of this year was used by 95% of respondents. And guess what? It’s NOT TikTok! So, which is it? Well, definitely not Facebook, either. Pew reports that 95% of teens surveyed used YouTube during that 2-month period. Number 2? TikTok, at 67%. Teens were also asked how often they are using the sites, ranging from “never” to “constantly.” YouTube is again at the top of the list, for constant use (19%), and TikTok is number 2, at 16%. 15% of kids reported using Snapchat constantly, and 10% use Instagram as their go-to social media site. They clear loser in the survey was – you guessed it —Facebook. Seven years ago, it was used by 71% of teens. That number has now dropped to 32%. Twitter and Tumblr usage is also down among teens.
(So, finally, we parents are safe to use Facebook again, without worrying that our kids are going to see what we’ve been up to!)
(Well, if kids aren’t using Twitter or Facebook these days, at least still have YouTube to get their misinformation!)

PICTURES OF HEALTH:

➢ Think twice about that granola bar in the morning, because ice cream may be a better option. A new study from Tufts University in Boston has created the “Food Compass,” a system that ranks how healthy foods are by giving them a nutrient score. Unsurprisingly, whole foods like fruits and vegetables ranked highly on the list — with spinach even scoring a perfect 100. But fans of sweet treats will be thrilled to learn that chocolate ice cream with nuts scored 35 points, while a coconut and chocolate granola bar received just 15 points. By the way, frozen yogurt, a treat often cited as a healthy alternative to ice cream, scored just 23.
➢ Grapes can add years to your life, and have other health benefits as well, according to research published in the journal Foods. The study, performed on mice that were fed western diets with grape supplements, found that antioxidants found in grapes can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, boost metabolism and reduce the risk of fatty liver disease. It was determined that grapes could also extend the lives of humans by as much as 5 years. (Any word on if grape Kool-Aid works?)
➢ A new study claims to have determined how many minutes of exercise per week could help you live longer. The research, published in Circulation ― the American Heart Association’s scientific journal, found that people who went above and beyond the minimum guidelines of 150 to 300 minutes of moderate physical activity per week had a lower risk of premature mortality. Research shows that that those who work out 2-4 times above the moderate physical activity recommendations (300-600 minutes per week) saw the most benefit. Those who exercised that much had about a 27% lower risk of mortality. (Of course, they spent all their extra time at the gym, so…)

INEDIBLES:

Some “local delicacies” to sample next time you’re in these countries…
⇒ Jellied eels:  A fav street food in London. Eel is boiled, then gelatin is added to the water, and after hardening, it is served with meat pies, potatoes and beer. (LOTS of beer…)
⇒ Duck feet:  In China, the webbed duck feet are braised, and eaten as a snack with soy sauce. (LOTS of soy sauce…)
⇒ Helmet:  You can get this from street vendors in the Philippines. What is it? Barbecued chicken heads. (Beaks removed, if that makes it any better…)
⇒ Fried pig blood:  Common in rural Hungary, it is made by collecting slaughtered pig’s blood, and frying it with scrambled eggs. (I’ll never have ketchup on my eggs again!)
⇒ Surströmming:  In Sweden, this dish is made by soaking Baltic herring in a brine solution, then packing it in a wooden barrel and leaving it in the sun for 24 hours to induce fermentation. Next, it is placed in a cool room for several months. Then it is canned, where it continues to ferment. The smell is compared to extremely rotten fish, or horribly rotten eggs…or to garbage that’s been left out in the sun. And just imagine how it tastes! (And imagine what kind of a mind came up with this idea!)
(…and I thought I was being adventurous when I first tried sushi!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Researchers from the University of Surrey say it may soon be time to say goodbye to e-books, in favor of augmented reality books. They have unveiled the third-generation version of the Next Generation Paper project. It allows the reader to consume information on printed paper and screen side-by-side. To use augmented reality, or “a-books”, all you need to do is swipe your finger or turn the page. The information will then be displayed on a nearby device. The scientists say the technology “can assist the reader in a deeper understanding of the written topic and get more through digital means without ruining the experience of reading a paper book.”

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Bad Poetry Day”, a day to compose a really rotten rhyme as revenge against all that ‘good poetry’ you were forced to study in school. (But remember: All poets write bad poetry. Bad poets publish them, good poets burn them.)
• “Fajita Day”, originally made from throwaway cuts of beef by Mexican vaqueros in Southwest Texas, the fajita was developed as a regional staple in the early 1930s. These cowboys cooked the steak over an open fire or grill and served it with flour or corn tortillas.
• “Mail Order Catalog Day”, it’s a publication, not unlike a magazine, that lists items available to buy from a business, and their prices (Old-school Amazon?).
• “Serendipity Day”, According to author Madeleine Kay, serendipity is “the willingness to live your life as if everything is a miracle…with the belief that at any moment something wonderful is about to happen.” Serendipity is also recognized as one of the most beautiful words in the English language.
• “Never Give Up Day”, a celebration day focused on cultivating a mindset of determination. This day not only applauds people for reaching their goals, it also supports those who are still trying to achieve theirs. LINK: https://www.nevergiveupday.com/
• “Pinot Noir Day”, named for the dark color of the grapes, and the pine-cone shaped clusters they grow in on the vine. Showing a strong preference for cooler climates, the grape of the same name is grown primarily in Burgundy, France.
• “Helium Discovery Day”, It was this date in 1868 that French astronomer Pierre Jules César Janssen discovered the gas, which is now used to fill balloons and make human voices sound ridiculous. Helium is also crucial for things like the flight of airships, in MRI scanners, rockets, solar telescopes, and arc welding.
