★ NBC-TV has announced some of the hosts for its upcoming “Saturday Night Live” season. “SNL’s” 41st go-round opens October 3rd with Miley Cyrus returning as host for a 3rd time. Comedian and hot new movie star Amy Schumer (“Trainwreck”) makes her hosting debut October 10th. And Tracy Morgan makes a comeback to NBC’s Studio 8H on October 17th, his 2nd time hosting the show where he was a cast member for 7 seasons. Morgan was critically injured in June 2014 when his limo was struck by a truck. He’s not performed since, having had to endure extensive physical rehab.

★ An Assistant Director on the CBS-TV series “The Big Bang Theory” has launched legal action against the show for allegedly firing him due to his age. This week Christopher Klausen filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros Television at Los Angeles Superior Court that claims he was dismissed for ‘performance issues’ yet producers have been unable to cite any examples of unsatisfactory work during his 7 years on the show. He’s filing for discrimination based on age, wrongful termination, and failure to prevent discrimination. For the record, he’s 55-years-old.

★ 30-year-old movie actor Emile Hirsch (“10,000 Saints”, “Milk”, “Into the Wild”) has been sentenced to 15 days in jail plus community service and a fine by a Utah court after pleading guilty to assaulting a female movie executive at the Sundance Film Festival in January. An apparently drunk Hirsch reportedly grabbed Paramount exec Dani Bernfeld, then put her in a headlock and pulled her across a table before choking her after she landed on the floor. Shortly afterward, his rep claimed the actor had no memory of the incident as he was intoxicated. Hirsch then promptly checked himself into rehab.

★ And “Empire” co-stars Terrence Howard & Taraji P Henson are teaming up on the upcoming 2nd season of Spike-TV’s “Lip Sync Battle”. After performing renditions of The Commodores’ “Brick House” and Mary J Blige’s “Just Fine” solo, the actors team up for a version of “It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp” from their 2005 film “Hustle & Flow”. “Lip Sync Battle” has been a hit show for Spike; its premiere was the highest-rated in the cable channel’s history. 20 new episodes have been ordered up for Season 2.

• Ed Sheeran – Rumored girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger has now met his parents and the couple has spent time hanging out in his hometown of Framlingham UK. A snitch reveals they had pizza & beer at his favorite pub, The Station, where he’s previously taken his pal Taylor Swift.
• Lana Del Rey – She’s confirmed that her new album, “Honeymoon”, will be released on September 18th. It features the previously shared title track as well as her new single “High By the Beach”.
• Miley Cyrus – The 22-year-old says she’s just putting the finishing touches to her new album. The almost completed 5th studio album (no title announced as yet) comes almost 2 years after her previous release, “Bangerz”.
• One Direction – They’ll be among the headline acts at UK’s 8th Apple Music Festival at London’s Roundhouse September 19th-28th. Other acts scheduled to perform include Disclosure, Florence + The Machine, and Pharrell Williams.
• Rascal Flatts – A $2,000 custom guitar stolen backstage at the Willamette Country Music Festival in Brownsville, Oregon on Friday night has been recovered by police. It was reportedly returned undamaged and the group has requested that no criminal charges be laid.

ZAP FAT OR CUT CARBS?
Cutting fat from your diet leads to more weight-loss than reducing carbohydrates, according to a new health study from the US National Institutes of Health. Scientists intensely analyzed people on controlled diets by inspecting every morsel of food, every minute of exercise, even the number of breaths taken. It has been argued that restricting carbs is the best way to get rid of a ‘spare tire’ as it alters the body’s metabolism. And while that may be true, the new research finds an average 80% more weight-loss is when fats are cut from the diet. Overall, the experts say the most effective diet is … one you can stick to. They conclude that if it’s easier to adhere to one diet over another, and do it permanently, then you should choose that diet. (Bacon!)

FEELING NO PAIN:
Listening to music before, during, and after an operation can help reduce pain, according to a new review by Queen Mary University of London. The study has found that patients who listen to music are less anxious after surgery and need less pain relief. Music has even been found to be effective while patients are under general anesthetic. While it has an effect on stress and pain, researchers have found that music does not seem to reduce the length of hospital stays. The study concludes that music is a safe, cheap, and non-invasive option that should be available to everyone having surgery. The study was instigated after  the lead researcher found that Pink Floyd helped her relax after a recent hip operation. (“The Final Cut” perhaps?)

With more than 2 million videos on YouTube, cats have become one of the most searched topics online. A new exhibition called “How Cats Took Over the Internet” has opened at NYC’s Museum of Moving Images. It looks at the history of how they rose to Internet fame, and why people like them so much. It was in 2005 that YouTube co-founder Steve Chen posted a video of his cat called ‘Pyjamas’ playing with a rope, making him the first to upload a cat video. But it wasn’t until the next year that a cat video went viral. “Puppy vs Cat” has racked up more than 16 million views on YouTube. Nowadays almost half of all original YouTube videos feature people’s pets, and around 26 billion views are of cats, making them the most popular category.
