BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ One of the famous cars from the film “Grease” is coming up for auction Aug. 20, and it was signed by Olivia Newton-John. The black custom 1949 Mercury known as “Hell’s Chariot” was raced by the villain ‘Crater Face’ against Danny Zuko’s “Greased Lightning” down the Los Angeles River culvert in one of the film’s most iconic scenes. The menacing topless hot rod, with its classic flames, used a set of razor hubcaps to tear through Zuko’s Ford. The car was later used to parade Newton-John through Las Vegas to the opening night event for her residency, which is when she put her signature on the on the dashboard. The car was consigned to the Monterey CA auction months before Newton-John’s death on Tuesday, and was given a pre-auction estimate of $600,000 to $750,000.

★ Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have given up their never-ending search for a new home for their blended fam — and decided to live at the place J-Lo has called home for years. Reportedly, they’ve decided to take up permanent residency in Lopez’s Bel-Air home. But first: it’ll undergo a massive remodel, so they won’t be able to move in for a year — or more. The Ben & Jen clan moved into a massive, $60 million Bev Hills home in June, but apparently, that’s just a rental, to make do until the remodel is complete. As for J-Lo’s estate, the main house is about 14,000 square feet, with 7 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms. It’s on 8 acres, so there’s room to make it bigger. She bought the place from Sela Ward in 2016 for $40 mil, did an extensive remodel then.

★ NBC and the Television Academy have finally found a host for this year’s Emmy ceremony: “Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson. Thompson, the longest-running cast member in “SNL” history, was named after a lengthy search to find an A-list name that might shake things up. It turns out, the A-lister was in their own backyard. The telecast will air live Sept. 12 on NBC, and stream on Peacock. Thompson has plenty of hosting experience over the years; last year, he hosted both the 2021 Kids’ Choice Awards and the 47th People’s Choice Awards. He also served as emcee for the NHL Awards in 2019 and 2022.

★ Mindy Kaling isn’t fazed by rumors that her ex-boyfriend B.J. Novak is the father of her 2 children. In a new interview in Marie Claire, she is quoted as saying: “It doesn’t bother me. He’s the godparent to both my kids — and they have such a great relationship — and so far, [the speculation hasn’t] affected my happiness at all, it hasn’t affected my kids or BJ.” Kaling, who co-starred in “The Office” with Novak, went on to say: “If that’s what is going to be titillating to people, I’ll take it.” She is mom to daughter Katherine, who is 4, and 1-year-old son, Spencer. Kaling, who dated Novak on and off from 2004-07, does not plan to speak about her kids’ conception until the little ones know the details themselves.

SHOOTING THE BULL

FOR THE RECORD:
⇒ A British woman has run into the Guinness World Record book by completing 106 marathon distances on 106 consecutive days. 35-year-old Kate Jayden of Derbyshire began running 26.2 miles (42.2km) every day on Dec. 31, 2021, and finished her marathon of marathons on April 15. Guinness has just now certified her record…with a twist: Jayden’s feat was later equaled by Scottish duo Fay Cunningham and Emma Petrie. The three women now jointly hold the record. (It’s Ok, ladies, I wouldn’t have felt like running another marathon on day 107, either!)
⇒ A strong-stomached California man has broken the Guinness World Record for wolfing down ghost chili peppers. Gregory Foster, who previously broke a record by finishing 3 Carolina reaper chili peppers in 8.72 seconds, added another title by taking on the record for most Bhut Jolokia chili peppers — also known as ghost peppers — eaten in one minute, downing 17 of them. His intake was measured at 3.98 ounces, beating the record of 3.42 ounces, which was set by Canadian speed-eater Mike Jack in 2019. (Later that night, he set another record…)

SCIENTISTS SAY:
➢ The human brain is not meant to be awake after midnight. That’s according to researchers from Mass General Research Institute. Moreover, they say staying up late only leads to more impulsive behavior and high-risk decisions, such as drinking, overeating, gambling, or criminal activity. Specifically, the researchers suspect that staying awake during the biological circadian night (the middle of the night for most people) causes neurophysiological changes in the brain, which causes people to view the world more negatively than they do during the daytime. (This explains a LOT about those weirdos I used to work the night-shift with…!)
➢ Do men really die younger than women? Nope – that’s a myth, according to a new study. Researchers from the University of Southern Denmark found that men actually have a good chance of outliving women — especially if they’re married or went to college. The study determined that men have generally had a 25-50% chance of outliving women over the last 200 years. That number includes men on all continents, spanning 199 countries. Simply put, between 1 and 2 out of every 4 men have outlived the average woman over the last 200 years. (The married guys stayed alive simply because their wives told them to!)

FAILING PASSWORDS:
Yeah…you’ll probably consider changing your passwords after hearing THIS: Most people in a relationship say they could easily hack their partner’s passwords if they wanted to. A survey of 2,000 people about their password habits found that the average person thinks they could get into their significant other’s phone in just 5 attempts. How? This might have something to do with it: Respondents themselves said they have 4 ‘go-to’ passwords, with 31% saying that the ones they use are mainly different variations of the same thing, but with additional punctuation or numbers. The average respondent has 6 online accounts they’ve never even used because they didn’t need to use them again (46%), they lost interest in the service (43%) or they forgot the password (39%).
(These people need a password manager. I have one, but she’s not always home!)
(My password has been hacked so many times, I should go to Anonymous Anonymous!)
