BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jonah Hill has announced that he will not be promoting his soon-to-be-released documentary film — or any upcoming projects for the foreseeable future — to avoid the anxiety attacks he often suffers during press tours. The 38-year-old actor released an open letter to share and explain his decision to cease promoting any new movies indefinitely in order to focus on his mental health. Hill — whose new documentary “Stutz” focuses on his mental health struggles — said that for nearly 2 decades, he has been inflicted with anxiety attacks that are worsened by media appearances and public events. In the letter, Hill says: “Through this journey of self-discovery within the film, I have come to the understanding that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks.” The documentary, directed by Hill, focuses on his struggles with mental health and features his own therapist.

★ Britney Spears is said to be lining up a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey. Oprah, who famously scored a TV interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Duchess of Sussex last year, is said to have reached out to the singer with an “open offer” for a similar chat. A source told OK! magazine that Spears just might take her up on it, because she “wants the world to know her truth. She’s livid with her father and ready to fire back at Kevin (Federline, her ex-husband).” This comes after Federline claimed that she has not seen her teen sons for “months” and they opted against going to her and husband Sam Asghari’s wedding in June.

★ Owen Wilson has a bone to pick. He says he was “scolded” by Marvel Studios for accidentally leaking some hush-hush details about the unreleased second season of “Loki.” Marvel is known for its strict policy on revealing any details on upcoming projects, and has called out stars in the past for breaching the rules. Wilson, who plays ‘Mobius’ in the hit Disney+ show, told ComicBook that the show is currently being filmed in London, then said: “We’ll see what happens with this one. I immediately get kind of self-conscious because [Marvel are] so kind of uptight.” When asked if he had ever been scolded by Marvel, Wilson said: “Yeah multiple times.” Last year, he landed himself in hot water after revealing the ‘Loki’ character had a mustache.

★ Gwyneth Paltrow will guest-star on “Shark Tank” as a guest shark. The Goop founder/CEO and Oscar-winning actress will plunge into the competitive entrepreneurship show alongside Doordash CEO and co-founder Tony Xu when Season 14 begins airing Friday, Sept. 23. The pair of Paltrow and Xu will accompany long-standing Sharks Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John and Kevin O’Leary in various episodes.

THE EAT BEAT:
⇒ “Dive bar” isn’t just a country song anymore – now it’s an ice cream flavor. An ice cream BAR flavor, naturally. Miller beer has partnered with Tipsy Scoop, which sells liquor-infused ice cream, to give people the chance to eat the flavors of a classic dive bar and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ice cream bar. It combines a “delicious peanut swirl,” as an ode to “the saltiness of the quintessential dive bar snack” with a hint of tobacco smoke flavor “reminiscent of that unforgettable dive bar scent.” The stickiness of the floor is even captured by the “gooey caramel swirl,” and carbonated candy is mixed in to provide the “iconic Champagne of Beers effervescence in every bite.” And it’s all tied together by dark chocolate to “evoke the dark wood and dim lighting ambiance that all good dives share” — and the bars even contain 5% alcohol. 6-packs are available online for $36. (Dive barf?) LINK: https://tipsyscoop.com/products/highlifeicecreamdivebars
⇒ Is the traditional ‘family meal’ becoming a thing of the past? According to a survey, the average American spends just 3 meals per week with their loved ones. In a poll of 2,000 adults, many said they’ve seen a decline in how often they get to eat with family, leaving them wanting more. In their youth, the average person says the ate, on average, 4 dinners per week with family and another 2 dinners with others outside their family circle. Nearly half of those surveyed (49%) said that having a family dinner together is an “important way to connect”. Shared dinners were also said to be good for making memories (46%), learning more about their family in general (46%), and continuing family traditions (45%). (You’ll notice at the start they said the average person “spends” 3 meals per week with family, as opposed to “enjoys”. Because that would be a whole other conversation!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Nevada woman is now the legal owner of an entire neighborhood – after the title for her $595,000 home mistakenly included a further 84 properties worth an estimated $50 million. The unnamed woman intended to buy one home in Sparks, near Reno. But when she filed documents with the assessor, it was noticed that there was a massive error, and she had an additional 84 properties and 2 common spaces. The chief deputy assessor for Washoe County said it appears to have been a typing error made by the firm Westminster Title. That meant that the woman who planned to purchase just one property ended up being given the title deeds for scores of others too – many of which have already been sold, and had homes built on them. Those involved are working on a resolution. (But at least, for now, she can say she has the nicest lawn in the neighborhood!)
➢ Police believe they’ve determined who…or what…it was that called 911 from a zoo last Saturday night. The San Luis Obispo County California Sheriff’s Office says it was a little Capuchin monkey. The call disconnected and dispatchers tried to call and text back but there was no response, so police were sent to investigate. The address turned out to be the “Zoo to You,” but no one there admitted making the call. Police finally deduced that a Capuchin monkey named Route had apparently picked up the zoo’s cellphone, which was in a golf cart, and dialled the emergency number. (Or, at least, he’s the “primate” suspect!)

DID YOU KNOW?
These days, more and more adults are picking thrill-packed adventure vacations over relaxing by the pool. Rather than a traditional beach break, a survey of 2,000 adults over 40 found that 4 in 10 are choosing getaways that involve hiking, horseback riding, cycling or skiing. Also popular: riding rollercoasters, wild camping, snorkeling, kayaking, mountain climbing, and zip lining. And of those yet to experience such activities, 73% are seeking to be more active following the events of the pandemic. More than half (56%) said they are looking to make more memories while they can, and 49% are seeking to “make vacations fun again”. (Allow me to be the first to start selling a “MVFA” hat!)

BS CHRONOMETER 08.19.22

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Aviation Day”, an annual observance honoring the 1871 birth date of Orville Wright, who piloted the first self-powered flight in history on December 17, 1903.
• “Hot and Spicy Food Day”, Some common foods that are often made spicy include chili, gumbo, chicken wings, and burritos. Wasabi and horseradish are made with peppers that have a high capsaicin content, which is good for your health. (So, go ahead and enjoy, if you dare!)
• “Potato Day”, did you know that more than 45 billion pounds of potatoes are harvested in the U.S. alone each year? They are used make baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, home fries, French fries, hash browns, potato soup, potato salad, vodka… (and to remove broken light bulbs from the socket!)
• “Kool-Aid Days” begin, the annual weekend celebration of the soft drink mix originally made in Hastings, Nebraska. Edwin E. Perkins first marketed the stuff in 1927 in 6 flavors (raspberry, cherry, grape, lemon, orange, and root-beer). “Oh, yeah!” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/28hhcw9u
• “International Orangutan Day”, encouraging us to take action in preserving this amazing yet endangered species. Orangs are the most iconic victim of the palm oil industry.
• “International Bow Day”, recognizing the accessory that has been changing fashion for centuries. Adding accessories such as a bow makes just about any look so much better. (Today we bow to the bow!)
• “Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day”, when everybody gets to speak like our favorite Gungan. As anyone who has seen the “Star Wars” prequels knows, ‘Jar Jar’ has a very unique way of speaking. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ycxyh848
• “Soft Ice Cream Day”, celebrating the swirled delight also known as ‘soft serve’, for which ice cream vendors use a special machine to produce. They also use a special technique to double the amount of air in soft ice cream, which creates its light, smooth texture. (And increases profit!)

SATURDAY-
• “Lemonade Day”, honoring the old-fashioned summer refreshment favorite. Many sources say that lemonade was invented in Paris on this day in 1630. (And remember, unless life also hands you sugar and water, your lemonade is going to suck!)

• “Bacon Lovers Day”, saluting one of the oldest of all processed meats. The Chinese began salting pork bellies as early as 1500 BC. What odd dish do you include bacon in … or on? (Bacon is the duct tape of the kitchen. It can fix anything!)
• “Medical Transporters Day”, can be traced back to World War I, where Field Ambulances transported those in need of care to medical facilities. This innovation moved into hospitals in the form of Medical Orderlies, and into the community in the form of ambulances.
• “Virtual Worlds Day”, Whether you enjoy on-line games or simulating real life events for training, or connecting with colleagues around the globe inside a virtual workspace, this day is for you. (Is “The Sims” still a thing?)

• “Senior Citizens Day”, to recognize and show appreciation for the value and contribution of elders to home, family, and society. So, make sure you call Grandma and Grandpa today. (Or take them out for dinner…at 4 o’clock!)
• “Spumoni Day”, saluting the Italian dessert made from layers of ice cream, whipped cream, candied fruit, and nuts. It is typically made with 3 layers of flavor: Chocolate, Pistachio, Cherry.
• “Poets Day”, poetry is a form of writing that uses the aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of a language, combined with simile and metaphor, to bring out meanings deeper than the mere definition of the words. (And that was a fairly poetic description, don’t you think?)
• “Brazilian Blowout Day”, for those who haven’t tried it, the hair-smoothing process can take it from frizzy and out-of-control to soft and impossibly shiny in just one sitting.
