★ Bob Barker, who starred for more than 5 decades as a TV game-show host, including 35 as host of “The Price Is Right” has died at age 99. Barker began his game show career in 1956 on “Truth or Consequences”. He famously used his TV platform to advocate for animal rights, signing off episodes of The Price Is Right with what would become his catchphrase: “Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered.” Barker also hosted the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants from 1967-87, but quit when the organization refused to stop awarding winners with fur coats.

★ Derek Hough has officially mamboed into marriage. The ballroom pro and “Dancing With the Stars” judge married his longtime dancer girlfriend, Hayley Erbert, on Saturday in Monterey County, California. The couple tied the knot in front of 106 guests in a redwood forest. Hough’s Dancing With the Stars co-star Mark Ballas served as his best man. The groom’s sister, Julianne Hough, was also on hand for the special day.

★ It’s a fashion face-off between the most famous sisters in the world. Kylie Jenner will go up against Kim and Khloé Kardashian with a new fashion range. Page Six says the 26-year-old billionaire has signed on with Jens and Emma Grede, the fashion team behind Kim’s hugely successful Skims and Khloé’s Good American denim range. In 2019, Jenner sold half of her cosmetics and skin care brand, Kylie Cosmetics, for $600 million. Kim’s Skims, the shapewear and lingerie brand, was valued at a staggering $4 billion last month.

★ Kevin Costner’s estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, reportedly wants him to dig deeper into his wallet for monthly child support — apparently feeling that $129,000 a month isn’t enough. Legal documents show that Baumgartner is allegedly asking the court to make Costner pay her around $175,000 per month so their 3 kids can experience the same lifestyle with each parent. Baumgartner reportedly claims that the kids live with their dad in a beach compound worth between $65-95 million, and take private planes while on vacations with him. She claims Costner actor should pay more child support “so that the children can go on comparable vacations when they are with her.”

★ Arleen Sorkin, known for portraying ‘Calliope Jones’ on “Days of Our Lives” and for serving as the real-life inspiration and voice for DC Comics villain ‘Harley Quinn’, has died at age 67. Sorkin began her career in 1982 with an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” as a background actor. In 1987 she was part of the cast of the sitcom “Duet”, and would go on to appear in “Open House”, “Dream On”, and “Perry Mason: The Case of the Killer Kiss”. She also co-hosted “America’s Funniest People  with Dave Coulier in the early 1990s.

★ John Travolta and “Vanderpump Rules” cast member Tom Sandoval both attended Metallica’s Friday show at SoFi Stadium near LA on Friday. But the celeb who made the biggest splash was Jason Momoa. According to opening act Pantera’s drummer Charlie Benante, who shared some backstage pics from the evening, “Seeing Jason in the (mosh)pit tearing it up was a highlight for me.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Drake – has given an update after fans were disappointed Friday, when fake news surfaced that his new album “For All The Dogs” would be dropping that day. That night he told a Seattle crowd: “It’s not gonna be that much longer…I’m finishing it up…If you’ve ever loved anything I’ve ever done in the past, I promise you this album will be for you…it will be worth the wait.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4d4kv9tk
• Taylor Swift – owns 8 spots on Billboard’s Canadian Hot 100. While this is an impressive achievement, what is particularly striking it that the songs originate from 5 different albums. The songs: ‘Cruel Summer’ (#2), ‘Karma’ (#10), ‘Anti-Hero’ (#20), ‘Style’ (#34), ‘Blank Space’ (#36), ‘August’ (#38), ‘I Can See You (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)’ (#63), and ‘Enchanted (Taylor’s Version)’ at #76.
• Prince — An expanded version of 1991’s “Diamonds and Pearls” featuring 47 previously unreleased songs will be released Oct. 27. The disc version will include 7 CDs and a Blu-ray featuring live performances – and the vinyl edition features 12 LPs.
• Green Day — is selling “Nimrod” shirts with Donald Trump’s mugshot on them. The design borrows from the cover of the 1997 album “Nimrod” but with Trump’s photo placed in it. Proceeds go to Greater Good Music, a charity sending relief to those affected by the Maui fires. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/37yhjswr
• AC/DC — Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo wants them to play the Super Bowl Halftime Show. The 2024 Super Bowl will be held on February 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, and when asked whom he wants to rock the crowd, Lombardo answered: “AC/DC! I was going to yell it out … But yeah, I’m serious.” Lombardo made the comments at the NFL and Las Vegas Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee press conference. The headliner will be announced this fall.
(***Caution – “Damn”***) • Jon Pardi – was recently asked for his thoughts on songwriting using artificial intelligence (A.I.). His answer: “If I’m gonna co-write with AI, it better walk in with a damn coffee mug and wheel in there and start talking to me, and I’ll start asking it damn questions.” His Your Heart or Mine’ is currently a Top 10 hit.
• Morgan Wallen – For the first time ever, Spotify’s most-streamed song of the summer in the US is a country tune – and it’s his ‘Last Night’, of course. Other country songs in the top-20: Wallen’s ‘You Proof’ and ‘Wasted On You’, plus ‘Fast Car’ by Luke Combs and ‘Something in the Orange’ by Zach Bryan. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2myveuxj
• Jason Aldean – will release his 11th studio album ‘Highway Desperado’ on Nov. 3. Of the title, he says: “I built my career early on my live show, and have been on the road touring since I was 18.” The album will contain 14 songs, including ‘Try That In A Small Town’ and the new single ‘Let Your Boys Be Country’.

SHOOTING THE BULL

ALONE TOGETHER:
You’ve seen it play out a million times: You and your significant other spend the evening together – but apart. One is on the phone or tablet. The other is watching TV or playing video games. Or maybe one is reading, while the other finishes up some work on the laptop. Is there wedge in your relationship? Quite the opposite. According to psychologists, enjoying separate things, while physically together – known as “parallel play” – can actually strengthen your relationship with your partner. In an article, psychotherapist Sarah Breen told Well + Good that parallel play “can facilitate both increased independence and closeness between partners”. How? Parallel play isn’t about being independent of one another, it’s about getting to be yourself and enjoying what brings you pleasure, while knowing your partner is right there if you happen to need them — or want to talk about what you are doing.
(They’re right. I love having her around, so I’m not yelling at the NFL refs alone!)
(…and if they talk TOO MUCH about what they are doing – well, that’s why God gave us earbuds!)

ANIMAL FEED:
❑ A teenage gorilla at the Toronto Zoo has finally managed to do what many human teens cannot: Break its smartphone addiction. Handlers report that Nassir is no longer fascinated with visitors’ smartphones and has once again embraced his natural behaviors. A sign posted at the enclosure where Nassir lives with his brother, Sadiki, urges visitors not to show the gorillas videos or photos from their phones, because it was affecting “their relationships and behaviour within their family.” Visitors who attempted to capture pics or videos often found Nassir curious and peeking over their devices. A zoo spokesperson said: “We had one particular person who was showing him lots of video footage and he kind of became a bit entranced with that”, so much that he began spending more time trying to engage visitors to show him their phones, rather than interacting with his brother. (Monkey see…)
❑  A ‘su-paw-market’ in Finland is welcoming canine customers, with specially-adapted carts that allow dog owners to bring their pooches grocery shopping. The Kesko grocery chain has introduced the “Koirakärry” – dog cart – as a way to welcome in more dog-owning customers at its store in Tampere, where usually only service animals are permitted. The carts have a dog bed in the bottom, and a clip for leads or harnesses. Owners are encouraged to pick up their pups and put them inside – although a future version of the cart might include a small ramp so the dogs can walk in themselves. (Clean-up in aisle 3 – it’s a number two!)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ It’s full sail ahead for the cargo ship Pyxis Ocean. The vessel, now on its maiden voyage from China to Brazil, is outfitted with WindWings sails, which are 123-feet tall and made of the same material as wind turbines. It is the first real-world test of the sails, which are designed to cut fuel consumption. Because the ship does not rely solely on an engine, the sails could reduce save 3.3 tons of fuel per day, and reduce its lifetime emissions by 30%. The shipping industry generates about 837 million ton of carbon dioxide per year, and wind power “can make a difference” as the world awaits new clean energy sources, says Dr. Simon Bullock, shipping researcher at the University of Manchester’s Tyndall Center.
➢ An airline pilot reunited a 9-year-old with her beloved doll lost half a world away. Young Valentina Dominguez was left devastated after losing her doll Beatrice. Returning to Plano, Texas from a family trip to Japan, Valentina and her parents frantically searched through luggage before reasoning they must have lost Beatrice at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport. A social media post alerted a friend, who alerted a neighbor, who alerted American Airlines First Officer James Danen. He got in contact with the lost and found staff at Turkish Airlines, and was directed to workers at the airport in Tokyo, who had by that time found Beatrice. Last week, Danen, who made 2 trips to Tokyo before managing to get his hands on Beatrice, personally escorted the doll back to the loving arms of Valentina. He also brought along some Japanese candy and a map of the world — showing all the places Beatrice had visited on her travels.

DID YOU KNOW?
Paper straws might not be the “eco-friendly” revolution they’ve been promoted to be: Belgian researchers found that these so-called “green” utensils are toxic, and therefore potentially worse for the environment than their now-hated plastic counterparts, according to a new study published in the journal Food Additives & Contaminants. Researchers analyzed the concentrations of PFAs, or “forever chemicals” of 39 brands of drinking straws, comprised of 5 materials: paper, bamboo, glass, stainless steel, and plastic. They found that paper straws were the most PFA-filled, with a 90% of paper straws containing the chemicals. Bamboo straws — another highly-touted green alternative — came in second with 80%, followed by 75% of plastic straws, 40% of glass straws, and none in steel straws. (Is this the ‘last straw’ for paper straws?)

• “Cherry Turnover Day”, celebrating the yummy treat made with a little puff pastry, some cherries, some butter …. and a little more butter.
• “Crackers Over the Keyboard Day”, honoring the time-honored tradition of snacking and web surfing. What’s the worst thing you’ve spilled on your computer keyboard? Or someone else’s?
• “Motorist Consideration Day”, reminding us to practice patience and consideration towards others while traveling. This includes all forms of travel, whether it be by bike, boat, bus, car, foot, plane, train, scooter, skateboard, or wheelchair.
• “Radio Commercials Day”, commemorating the first-ever radio ad, broadcast on this date in 1922. Queensboro Realty received 10 minutes of air time on NYC station WEAF for $100. (So – loooong commercial breaks aren’t a relatively new development?)
• “Red Wine Day”, whether you prefer a fine wine after a hard day at work, with a few of your favorite friends at the local pub, or enjoy a glass or 2 during dinner, red wine is perfect any time! (Except the shower. Wine is MUCH better in the bath…) Here are some benefits:
✓ Good for your heart – Grapes are loaded with antioxidants. Resveratrol is believed to be the key ingredient in red wine that is good for blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and increases the good kind of cholesterol – HDL.
✓ Cancer – Drinking dark red wine may also reduce the risk of colon, lung, and prostate cancer. Some believe resveratrol attacks cancerous cells and “inhibits their ability to function.”
✓ Brain Power – Resveratrol may help keep your memory sharp.
✓ Colds – Red wine may help keep the common cold at bay.
✓ Red wine may help prevent tooth decay.
✓ Resveratrol testing on animals suggests it may also help protect against obesity and diabetes. The skin of red grapes may help regulate blood sugar. (Never mind the wine…get me a bottle of resveratrol!)
