BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Yellowstone” may not be getting put out to pasture after all. Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Network hit, which was cancelled following its Season 5A finale in May 2023, will reportedly be continuing on with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser taking over from Kevin Costner as the series’ leads. According to the industry newsletter Puck, OG cast members Reilly and Hauser, who were rumored (but never confirmed) to be in talks to reprise their roles of newlyweds ‘Beth Dutton’ and ‘Rip Wheeler’ on the spinoff “The Madison”, are closing deals to remain with the mothership show. No official comment so far from Paramount.

★ Wendy Williams was spotted for the first time in over a year at a holistic store in New Jersey. An employee at Bolingo Balance in Newark said the former “Wendy Williams Show” host visited the shop about a week ago with her son, Kevin Hunter Jr. Williams was said to be “sharp, upbeat and aware” and “very bubbly” during the visit. In February, Williams’ team announced she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, and she was in a treatment center at the time.

★ Ritchie Valens is headed back to the big screen. Mucho Mas Media and Sony Pictures have teamed up to develop a remake of the Golden Globe-nominated 1987 film “La Bamba,” based on the life of the rock and roll legend. Luis Valdez, the writer and director of the original film, is on board as an executive producer. Oscar-nominated writer José Rivera (“The Motorcycle Diaries”) will pen the script. Lou Diamond Phillips portrayed Valens in the original film, which depicts the 17-year-old Mexican-American’s rise to fame.

★ “Lost” star Matthew Fox has joined the cast of “Madison”, the upcoming “Yellowstone” spinoff from Taylor Sheridan. Fox has taken on a lead role opposite Michelle Pfeiffer, joining already-announced cast members Patrick J. Adams, Elle Chapman, Beau Garrett and Amiah Miller. Fox will play ‘Paul’, a self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors. Madison, previously titled “2024”, will be the third spin-off series in the “Yellowstone” universe, following “1883” and “1923.”

★ It’s the one where you can own a piece of “Friends” history. To celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary of the show’s premiere, Julien’s Auctions is selling a nostalgia-inducing collection of gems from the set, including sweaters worn by stars Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston — and one very familiar orange couch. The auction will take place on Sept. 23. The big-ticket item is expected to be a replica of the gang’s beloved orange Central Perk couch. The studio-made sofa is estimated to go for $2,000 to $3,000. A studio-made replica of the “Central Perk” sign will be available, too. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3m5b6ss3

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Shaboozey – ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ has notched its 7th non-consecutive week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. That’s the most time spent at the top by any song this year. ‘Tipsy’ is also at #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart for an 11th week, topping Beyoncé’s ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’, which ruled for 10 weeks in Feb.-April.
• Lizzo – If you’re wondering where she’s been lately, she has answered your question. She posted a vid to Instagram of her standing in the rain during her stay in Bali. Her caption: “I’m taking a gap year & protecting my peace.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdt9txrb
• Oasis — Following a 15-year feud, co-founders and siblings Liam and Noel Gallagher have confirmed a much-rumored reunion tour. Oasis will play 14 UK shows beginning next August, including 4 at London’s Wembley Stadium. Other stops include Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Dublin. Tickets go on sale this Saturday. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mw89u8se
• Tom Petty – The late rocker’s official Instagram is teasing some big news. A post reads: “We’ve been working on something really special for a long time for the core Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers fans.” It continues, saying: “We think you’ll be delighted at what’s to come this fall.” A countdown on Petty’s website indicates an announcement is coming this Friday. • Imagine Dragons – drummer Daniel Platzman has left the group to focus on composing film scores. He posted: “After an incredible journey of over a decade, I will be departing the amazing band that is Imagine Dragons.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5862wm35
• Pink Floyd – David Gilmour will hit the road this fall in support of his upcoming solo album, “Luck and Strange”, and he seems to be backing down on his earlier vow not to play any Floyd material live. He said to Rolling Stone: “One has to wake up to reality once in a while…I’ll be doing ‘Wish You Were Here,’ of course I will. He also said he’ll play ‘Comfortably Numb’, “but probably not ‘Money’”.
• Carrie Underwood – NBC has shared the first teaser of her 2024 “Sunday Night Football” opening theme, along with a montage video. It shows her stepping into the spotlight — decked out in a bedazzled silver outfit (of course…). “SNF” kicks off on Sept. 8 with the Detroit Lions’ home game against the LA Rams. • Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban – are 2 of the music stars booked to make appearances on season 6 of “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, which premieres Sept. 23. Also scheduled to visit are: Michael Bublé, Jelly Roll, Adam Lambert, Teddy Swims, and Questlove.
• Post Malone – Thanks to his new country album “F-1 Trillion”, he has become the first artist to have placed albums (in the course of a career) at #1 on the Country, Rap, and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts. The new record also debuted at the top of the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart.
SHOOTING THE BULL
STATE OF THE ART:
If you want to be happy, ditch your job and start doing arts and crafts. Actually, I wouldn’t take it THAT far, but a new study says that engaging in creative pursuits boosts happiness more than having a good job. Researchers at Anglia Ruskin University in the UK say they have determined that taking part in what they call “Creating Arts and Crafting” activities results in increased life satisfaction, a greater sense that life is worthwhile, and higher levels of happiness. And perhaps surprisingly, the positive effects of participating in creative activities were more apparent than the benefits from other well-known positive factors — such as age, gender, health, and employment status. In other words, regardless of your life circumstances, picking up a paintbrush or a pair of knitting needles could give your mood a big boost!
(Wow! Just imagine how happy you’d be if you were an art dealer!)
(As the parent of a drummer, I can tell you that although music is considered an “art”, constant cymbal crashes and a Blink-182 beat thundering throughout the house hasn’t done much for my well-being at all!)

I SEE:
❑ Great news for you if you wrecked your eyebrows in the ‘90s with tweezers and bad lighting: The “barely-there” brow is coming back. While big-browed tastemakers have dominated grooming standards for over a decade, if trend forecasts and red carpets are anything to go by, less is more once again. It’s evident everywhere from TikTok to Paris Fashion Week, where make-up artist Pat McGrath painted the finest of curved lines high on the models’ foreheads, concealing their natural eyebrows below. And at the Met Gala, barely-there brows were on full display, with Zendaya, FKA Twigs, and Doja Cat opting for either bleached out or wafer-thin styles. (Yeah, the trend has definitely ‘waxed and waned’ over the years!)
❑ Eye doctors are warning against undergoing a relatively new quick surgical procedure to change the patient’s eye color. The cosmetic surgery has become a popular trend in parts of Europe recently, and started taking off in the US after influencers revealed their dramatic eye color transformations on social media. There are 2 different procedures available. One, called ‘iris implants’ has not been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for cosmetic purposes. The other, called keratopigmentation, involves a surgeon using a needle or laser to make space in the cornea, then injecting pigment into the cornea to hide the original iris color, like a tattoo for the eye. In January, the American Academy of Ophthalmology issued a warning about the risk of vision loss and complications. The process can cost about $12,000. (Sometimes I really wish I could change my eye color. And then, it usually happens! Yup, by noon, the red is usually totally gone!)

INTERESTING FLEX:
According to new research, stretching might be the key to a longer life. A team at the Exercise Medicine Clinic in Brazil used a flexibility assessment tool called the Flexitest to evaluate the range of motion across 7 major joints in the bodies of test subjects. These included the ankles, knees, hips, trunk, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. By combining the scores from all these movements, they created a “Flexindex” score to represent an individual’s overall body flexibility. Here’s what they found: those with higher Flexindex scores had a significantly lower risk of death during the follow-up period. The results were particularly pronounced at the extremes of flexibility. That means if your joints are VERY flexible, you’re very likely to live a long time. And if you’re not very flexible at all, well…they’ve got some bad news for you…
(Man! My back’s been killing me all week – and now I find out that it IS – literally!)
(How about stretching the truth? Does that help? Asking for a friend…!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A study published by the National Bureau of Economic Research has found that more attractive adults are less likely to spend time gaming than those who are less attractive. A similar result was observed in teens. The researchers determined that it isn’t a case of playing video games making people ugly – the results “suggest…the better-looking have a…comparative advantage in social interactions as an alternative leisure activity”, so they logically spend more time with close friends and romantic partners, and less time gaming. (This information is going to be a real game-changer for me!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Bow Tie Day”, saluting the look that involves “a ribbon of fabric tied around the collar in a symmetrical manner such that the 2 opposite ends form loops.” (Some people just can’t pull off a bow tie…and that’s why their face is red!)
• “Cherry Turnover Day”, celebrating the yummy treat made with a little puff pastry, some cherries, some butter …. and a little more butter.
• “Crackers Over the Keyboard Day”, honoring the time-honored tradition of snacking and web surfing. What’s the worst thing you’ve spilled on your computer keyboard? Or someone else’s?
• “Radio Commercials Day”, commemorating the first-ever radio ad, broadcast on this date in 1922. Queensboro Realty received 10 minutes of air time on NYC station WEAF for $100. (So – loooong commercial breaks aren’t a relatively new development?)
• “Power Rangers Day”. In 1993, 5 ordinary teenagers exploded on the pop-culture scene with the launch of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Together, they broke down barriers, and defeated evil through teamwork. At last count, they’ve been featured in 22 different themed TV series, 3 theatrical films, and a 2023 TV special.
• “Lend a Hand Wednesday”. Part of Be Kind to Humankind Week, it’s a day to offer someone your time, help, or advice. It doesn’t have to be anything grand; even the smallest bit of help to someone is appreciated. LINK: Be Kind to Humankind Week – bk2hk
• “Red Wine Day”, whether you prefer a fine wine after a hard day at work, with a few of your favorite friends at the local pub, or enjoy a glass or 2 during dinner, red wine is perfect any time! (Except the shower. Wine is MUCH better in the bath…) Here are some benefits (although it should be noted that evidence is mounting about possible negative health effects of the consumption of any type of alcohol…)
✓ Good for your heart – Grapes are loaded with antioxidants. Resveratrol is believed to be the key ingredient in red wine that is good for blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and increases the good kind of cholesterol – HDL.
✓ Cancer – Drinking dark red wine may also reduce the risk of colon, lung, and prostate cancer. Some believe resveratrol attacks cancerous cells and “inhibits their ability to function.”
✓ Brain Power – Resveratrol may help keep your memory sharp.
✓ Colds – Red wine may help keep the common cold at bay.
✓ Red wine may help prevent tooth decay.
✓ Resveratrol testing on animals suggests it may also help protect against obesity and diabetes. The skin of red grapes may help regulate blood sugar. (Never mind the wine…get me a bottle of resveratrol!)

A PARENTAL CHECKLIST FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL:
• Practice frantically making lunches for kids that they probably won’t eat anyway.
• Ask the utility company to get your son’s sneakers down from the power line.
• Slap a name tag on your kid’s phone … after all, it’s worth more than your car.
• Remind the kids of all the things they did this Summer so they don’t answer the question “What did you do this Summer?” with “Nuthin’”.
• Buy your kid a new binder … because there’s more writing on the outside of the old one than there ever was inside.
• Start a savings plan for the 842 school fundraisers you’ll be asked to participate in this year.
• Buy your kid new ‘indoor shoes’. Last year’s have already evolved into ‘outdoor shoes’.
• Practice driving in school zones by following a slow-moving motorhome for 20 miles.
• Remind yourself not to refer to any teacher by the size of their butt or lack of hair — or both.
• Locate that missing tuna sandwich from last March that’s stuck between seats in the minivan.
