PLEASE BURGER:
You’ve definitely heard people complaining about the rising cost of a traditional fast food hamburger meal lately. But those prices haven’t quite reached this level yet. A New York restaurant called Sip & Guzzle is offering a $150 cheeseburger – that’s served on a golden platter. Named the “Royale With Cheese” (probably inspired by the movie “Pulp Fiction”), the souped-up sammie was recently described by a food critic as the “fanciest cheeseburger you’re ever going to eat”. And that’s exactly what it sounds like: The Royale With Cheese features A5 Miyazaki wagyu tenderloin (the highest-graded beef in the world), and is topped with aged white cheddar. It is seasoned with minced onions, a special wasabi-based barbecue sauce, smoked soy sauce, brown sugar, tomato and rice vinegar, and shio koji (a Japanese condiment). Rather than serve this boujee burger in a bun, the Royale is wrapped in shokupan milk bread, which is flown fresh from a bakery in LA, and it’s all served in a golden bento-like box. One influencer described the fancy sammie as “cheesy, dreamy, meaty wagyu goodness.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mryybcns
(Yeah, that’s about $30 per bite. You know how many cheeseburgers I can get at McD’s for $150?)
(I think they missed an opportunity by including cheese. If people are willing to pay an extra 2 bucks for cheese on a $12 burger, just imagine what this place could charge for a slice or 2 on this baby!)

SPORT ODDITY:
Boston Red Sox catcher Danny Jansen just might become the first player in MLB history to play for both teams in the same game when Sox and Toronto Blue Jays resume their suspended contest on August 26. He started at catcher for the Blue Jays in their game vs. Red Sox on June 26. That game was put on hold in the 2nd inning due to rain. On July 27, the Jays traded Jansen to the Red Sox in exchange for prospects. The game that was in progress is scheduled to resume on Aug. 26, and if Jansen is utilized at any point in the remaining 7-plus innings (or in extra innings), he’ll be the first player in MLB’s 121-year history to appear in a game for both teams. Coincidentally, Jansen was at the plate for the Blue Jays, facing a 0-1 count, when the game was called. Naturally, he won’t be allowed to finish that at-bat.
(Does this mean that if the Sox insert him as catcher, he could catch his own strikeout?)
(Man! I knew MLB games drag out for a long time – but 2 months?)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Chinese woman has become became the first person charged for riding a 3-wheeled electric suitcase on a sidewalk in Japan. The growing popularity of rideable suitcases with electric motors designed to get people quickly around airports and train stations has alarmed Japanese authorities following a rise in incidents of foreign visitors using them illegally on public roads. An electric suitcase has a built-in battery and an electric motor and can travel at around 10kph (6mph), and sells there for about $640. Under Japanese law, the suitcases are categorized as “motorized bicycles,” and as such, they need to be registered and equipped with a rear-view mirror and turn signals. (They’d make you wear a seatbelt too – if those things had seats!)
➢ A British woman is trying to find a new home for her collection of 163 bedpans after they (if you can believe it…) failed to sell at auction. Mary Jacobs, the owner of what might be Europe’s largest collection of bedpans, started her unusual hobby while helping out with rummage sales at the Salvation Army in 1984. She now has 163 different bedpans and a ‘wee’ problem: She has run out of room to store them. Her attempt to unload them at auction last month failed to attract any bidders. Quote: “I hope they go to a good home. They’re clean, washed and in fantastic condition.” (I’m going to come right out and say it: ‘Clean’ and ‘washed’ would be the absolute bare minimum, where you’re trying to sell something like that!) DID YOU KNOW?
A fun fact for you on “Dinosaurs Day”: The most famous dino of them all, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, may have been way larger than scientists thought. The iconic predator, which roamed North America 66-68 million years ago, has long captivated scientists and the public with its massive size and fearsome reputation. But new research published in the journal Ecology and Evolution took a fresh look at the T. Rex’s maximum size. The largest-known T. Rex skeleton, nicknamed “Scotty,” is estimated to have weighed about 8,900kg (19,555lbs) when alive. New findings suggest that the biggest T. Rexes could have tipped the scales at a staggering 15,000kg (33,069 pounds) – about 70% heavier than Scotty!

• “Assistance Dog Day”, created to recognize all of the devoted, hardworking assistance dogs helping individuals mitigate their disability-related limitations.
• “Psychic Day”, to encourage us to take the initiative to improve the 6th-sense that’s lying dormant within us all. The day’s origins date back to 19th-century England. (I wasn’t going to mention this occasion…but they would have known I skipped it!)
