BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
[***UPDATE***] ★ Mariah Careyhas confirmed that both her mom Patricia and her sister Alison died on the same day over the weekend. The singer said in a statement: “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.” Carey added that she feels “blessed” that she “was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed”, and asked for privacy. No other details, including Patricia and Alison’s causes of death, are known at this time.

★ Warner Bros. has released the official trailer for a new documentary about the life of Christopher Reeve. Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” follows the late actor’s rise to superstardom as ‘Superman’, as well as his fight to find a cure for spinal cord injuries after he became a quadriplegic following a horse riding accident. Reeve’s family participated in the making of the doc, which includes personal archive material. Super/Man will play in select theaters on Sept. 21, followed by an encore presentation on Reeve’s birthday, Sept. 25. A wider, traditional theatrical release has not yet been announced. ★ “Inside Out 2” has surpassed $1 billion at the international box office, becoming one of 12 movies — — and the only animated film — ever to do so. Though 55 films have grossed $1 billion globally (which includes domestic and international ticket sales), just a dozen have managed to hit that benchmark from overseas markets alone. Disney’s Pixar sequel is already the highest-grossing movie of the year with $1.65 billion globally, including $1.002 billion overseas and $646.3 million domestically. Weeks ago, “Inside Out 2” overtook “Frozen II” as the highest-grossing animated film in history.

★ Lea Michele is officially a girl mom! The 37-year-old “Glee” star announced in an Instagram post that she and husband Zandy Reich have welcomed their second child. The new addition makes the couple’s 4-year-old son Ever Leo a big brother. Michele captioned a family photo: “Our hearts are so full Emery Sol Reich.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5y8hkeec

★ A 4th season of “Ted Lasso” is looking more likely than ever. Warner Bros. Television has picked up the options for 3 of the show’s British stars: Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift and Brett Goldstein, meaning they are all set for a return. The studio is now expected to work with stars covered by SAG-AFTRA contracts who have expired options, including Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt, who plays ‘Coach Beard’. Insiders say that once the cast is committed, and season 4 is greenlighted, production could begin as soon as early 2025.

★ Zach Braff is addressing the possibility of a “Scrubs” reboot — and he’s hopeful it will happen. He recently told “Entertainment Tonight”: “Scrubs is a Disney show. Bill [Lawrence] has a Warner Bros. deal. Once those 2 companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it’s gonna happen.” Braff also expressed his interest in reprising his role of ‘Dr. John Michael “JD” Dorian’ and noted: “It would be so much fun [with] all my favorite people. We all still hang out.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Drake – Surprised fans on Friday by posting 3 new songs on his burner account on Instagram. One is ‘Circadian Rhythm (The Language 2)’ produced by Gordo. He also shared a new collab with Playboi Carti named ‘No Face’ (seemingly about his beef with Kendrick Lamar), and ‘SOD’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3wvprdze
• Ed Sheeran — surprised the crowd at his show in Romania Saturday with a special guest on drums – Chris Hemsworth. The “Thor” star banged the skins for a performance of ‘Thinking Out Loud’. Sheeran posted that Hemsworth is creating a documentary on cognitive health and the benefits of learning an instrument. Afterward, Sheeran gave Hemsworth a “participation award … for drumming excellence.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4s3k8yas
• Bruce Springsteen – has made it abundantly clear that he’s not considering retirement anytime soon. He said to his crowd in Philadelphia on Friday: “We’ve been around for 50 (freakin’) years, and we ain’t quitting! …No farewell tour for the E Street Band! Farewell to what? A thousand people screaming your name? Get the hell out. I ain’t going anywhere!”
• Oasis – It’s apparently finally happening! Liam and Noel Gallagher are expected to announce a reunion today. The group’s social media accounts indicate that ‘something’ is coming today. UK media reports that they have booked a string of gigs for next year, including 10 shows at London’s Wembley Stadium, and possible a Glastonbury headline slot. The brothers broke up in 2009, after a backstage brawl. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ca4nrjwp
• Linkin Park — is counting down to something. The group shared a mysterious 100-hour countdown timer on its social media accounts, with a link to the group’s website. Online chatter is filled with speculation the band could be set to announce a new singer to replace the late Chester Bennington. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/23pwbcvv
• Megan Moroney – pulled a prank on tourmate Kenny Chesney on Friday at Massachusetts’ Gillette Stadium. When Chesney brought her out for their usual duet performance of ‘She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy’, she appeared on a toy John Deere tractor, dressed like Chesney, and waving a “No Shoes Nation Flag”. Video shows Moroney cracking up, then driving the tractor to Chesney for their duet. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2fejy3c3
• Kane Brown – has dropped a set of remixes of his current Marshmello-assisted single ‘Miles on It’. The package, featuring guest collaborators from 7 different countries, is available on digital platforms. They include SMU (Brazil), Ghetto Kids (Mexico), Joel Corry (UK), Ely Oaks (Germany), COLDKIDS (China), and VAVO and Frank Walker (Canada).
• Thomas Rhett – is very proud of his career – for the most part. If there was one thing he could change, he said in a recent interview, it would be the very tight jeans he used to wear. Quote: “I look back at photos of myself back then and I’m just like, ‘How in the world did I fit in jeans like that?'” Rhett says that now, “It’s so much easier to squat down and shake hands.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

iDIP DIET:
If you’re looking to lose weight, researchers at the University of Illinois say they have cracked the code. They have developed what they call the “Individualized Diet Improvement Program”, which they say can cause 13% weight loss in a year. Sounds great! How does it work? Simply to increase your daily protein to 80 grams, and fiber to 20 grams. Oh, and cap your daily calorie count to 1,500 per day, which is far less than the 2,000-2,500 that is typically recommended. 41% of those following these guidelines were able to lose an average of 13% of their body weight by the one-year mark, without losing muscle, which often happens with rapid weight loss.
(I’m not worried about muscle loss. But at just 1,500 calories a day, I’d definitely be concerned about losing my mind!)
(…of course if you’re eating that much fiber, muscle isn’t the thing you’re worried most about losing…!)

MORAL OF THE STUDY:
Who knew? It turns out that as the seasons change, so do our morals, according to a study. Researchers at the University of British Columbia determined that our feelings regarding certain moral principles fluctuate throughout the year, following a consistent seasonal pattern. The study’s author said that the analysis of survey responses from over 230,000 Americans found that “People’s endorsement of moral values that promote group cohesion and conformity is stronger in the spring and fall than it is in the summer and winter.” The seasonal swing was found to be more pronounced in areas with more extreme climate variations between seasons, and the researchers feel that anxiety, which peaks in spring and autumn, may play a crucial role. The thinking is that higher anxiety may drive people to seek comfort in the group norms and traditions” of society’s values.
(Let’s face it, though. If morals really improved with increased anxiety levels, most of us would have EXCELLENT morals almost ALL the time!)
(Interesting. Because my morals have always fluctuated based on when my mother is coming for a visit!)

CHILL OUT:
A high-tech startup is offering people the chance to cryogenically freeze their dead body – in hopes they may one day be revived. And while the concept isn’t new, Tomorrow Bio claims it is the first company ever to use a process called “field cryoprotection” in which they “begin the cryopreservation process immediately after a patient is declared legally dead”, using retrofitted ambulances, which function as mobile surgery rooms. I’m guessing this allows them to preserve corpses faster upon death, supposedly increasing the chances of a successful re-animation when the time comes to do so. The German-based firm’s co-founder believes that will happen “within my lifetime” – and he’s 40. What does it cost to put bodies on ice? Tomorrow Bio is charging US $222,603, plus $55 monthly. Or you can freeze just your brain for $83,000. So far, the company claims that 6 people and 5 pets have been treated to the big chill, where bodily fluids are replaced by “medical-grade antifreeze, and stored at a temperature of minus 320°F (-196° C).
(One question: Can I pay for cryo with crypto?)
(Did they say if they’re taking nominations? ‘Cause I’m thinking Elon – and Kanye!)

THINGS DENTISTS SAY YOU JUST SHOULDN’T DO:
These are the bad dental habits to avoid for a healthy smile, according to a dentist and professor of dentistry . . .
✗ Don’t fall for DIY dentistry trends: No matter how popular they are on TikTok or wherever, never try those whitening recipes or 3D printing aligners without talking to a professional first. (This also applies to ‘at-home cavity fillers’. Trust me!)
✗ Never play contact sports without a mouth guard: A professionally fitted sports guard can spare you a lot of pain and expense, in case something goes wrong, causing an injury to your teeth. (Ironically, it’s usually my big mouth that ends up CAUSING me a mouth injury!)
✗ Don’t use your teeth as a tool: We’re all tempted to use our teeth to open packages, or even twist off bottle caps. This can mess with crowns and fillings, as well as your perfect teeth – and can lead to things like root canals and other repair jobs. (Chew on THAT for a minute!)
✗ Never wear a drugstore appliance without your dentist’s approval: Over-the-counter appliances, like night guard or sports guards, can sometimes cause teeth to shift. And to fix them could require an investment in full orthodontics. (Same goes for buying USED — I guess!)
✗ Never have a procedure done abroad without thorough research: The standard of care might be different in other countries. If you plan a trip for ‘medical tourism’, make sure that you know that things are sterilized properly, and done by a reputable organization.
✗ Don’t brush your teeth immediately after eating acidic food: Hold off for 45 minutes, because the acids in certain foods have a temporary softening effect on the enamel layer of our teeth.
✗ Don’t take your teeth for granted: Yes, we’d all like to have straight, white teeth, but remember: even if yours aren’t perfect, they still serve a very important purpose – helping you ingest the nutrition you need to power all your body’s functions. (Ain’t THAT the tooth! Sorry…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Cucumbers are in short supply in some countries, as supermarket chains report surging sales – probably because of viral recipes circulating on TikTok. Iceland in particular is experiencing a shortage as local farmers are struggling to keep up with booming business. And the lack of cucumbers is rotten news for those wanting to try one of the viral recipes circulated by TikTokker Logan Moffitt, nicknamed “The Cucumber Guy,” who shot to popularity this summer, thanks to his cucumber salad concoction. The 23-year-old Canadian creator sets up many of his vids by saying: “Sometimes you need to eat an entire cucumber,”, before launching into a simple kitchen tutorial. The Cucumber Guy has 5.6 million followers, and videos of his mouth-watering creations regularly surpass millions of views — and, as it seems, have led to a shortage of the key ingredient. • “Banana Lovers Day”, an annual celebration of the fruit with appeal. (***Some ’nana facts here:***) LINK: http://www.punchbowl.com/holidays/banana-lovers-day
• “Rock Paper Scissors Day”. It’s the only game that, regardless of language, gender or age, everyone has a chance of coming out victorious in the end. (Have you ever noticed that it is just as hard to try to LOSE at Rock Paper Scissors as it is to win?)
• “Just Because Day”, a chance to do something spontaneously without rhyme nor reason. Most often in life, we do things because we have to, we want to, or they’re expected of us. None of those reasons apply on this day…just because.
• “Petroleum Day” (also known as “Oil & Gas Industry Appreciation Day”), honoring the world’s first commercially successful oil well, drilled near Titusville, Pennsylvania 166 years ago today, in 1858. (You might call it a “crude” awakening…)
• “Kiss Me Day”, also known as “First Kiss Day”, commemorating Popeye’s first kiss with Olive Oyl. Some sources claim that today marks the date of their first on-screen kiss, after which Olive Oyl said: “My hero”.
• “Tarzan Day”. On this day in 1912, Tarzan made his magazine debut. Tarzan was the creation of Edgar Rice Burroughs, and 2 years later, Burroughs published the first of a series of novels based on the character.
• “Touch-A-Heart Tuesday”, a day to take the opportunity to show kindness to others. Just like the old 60’s tune goes, “Put a little love in your heart”. It’s a part of “Be Kind to Humankind Week”. Here are some ways you can observe the day…
☞ Don’t hesitate to offer a compliment
☞ Call someone just to say “Hi”
☞ Give someone a plant or flowers to brighten their day
☞ Be a good listener. Don’t jump to offer advice- just listen. LINK: Be Kind to Humankind Week – bk2hk
