BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” is getting flipped, turned upside down. The 90s comedy is coming back and Will Smith is on board, but it’s not going to be like the Fresh Prince you remember. His Westbrook Studios and Universal TV are producing a new version of the series inspired by a fan-made trailer that went viral last year. The trailer, created by cinematographer Morgan Cooper, reimagined the show as a drama called “Bel-Air” with essentially the same plot as the original, but with a much darker vibe, focused on the realities of a teen being sent from West Philadelphia to live with his rich uncle in Bel-Air after getting himself into some trouble.

★ Sharon Stone has taken on a new, real-life role — memoir writer. In her upcoming book, she’ll reflect on everything from her painful childhood in Pennsylvania to such films as the star-making erotic thriller “Basic Instinct” and Martin Scorsese’s mobster epic “Casino,” for which she received an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe award. She’ll also write about her two marriages, her near-fatal stroke in 2001, and her humanitarian work on behalf of AIDS research and other causes. Stone’s book “The Beauty of Living Twice” comes out in March.

★ Boxing fans will have to wait a little longer for Mike Tyson’s return to the ring. The exhibition fight between Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. has been pushed back from Sept. 12 to Nov. 28. The event will be streamed on pay-per-view and will take place at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. ESPN says the organizers of the event needed more time to land international TV deals and tie up loose ends in the pay-per-view side.

★ Zac Efron is all grown up for his latest movie. He’s set to star in a remake of the beloved 1987 comedy “Three Men and a Baby” for Disney+. The adaptation will mark the second remake of the French original which inspired the ’80s hit film starring Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson as New York bachelors who find themselves caring for an infant through bizarre circumstances. No word on a release date yet.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lady Gaga — has revealed she takes anti-psychotic medication. She says she takes olanzapine, a drug used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar – because she ”can’t always control what her brain does”. She released a song about it called ‘911’ on her latest album, “Chromatica”.
• Camila Cabello – has been writing “a lot” of new music while in lockdown. She tweeted a pic of herself in a studio and the message: “sending so much love to everyone. been writing a lot of new music and it’s coming from a really pure place.”
• Paul McCartney – He and Ryan Reynolds have been nominated to become the next Chief for Walpole Island First Nation, a Canadian native reservation on an island bordering Michigan and Ontario. While some members call the nominations are a joke, if the two miss today’s deadline to retract their names, they’ll remain legit candidates for the Sept. 19 election.
• Phil Collins – His classic ‘In the Air Tonight’ is officially a hit again 39 years after its release, thanks to a pair of twins from Gary, IN whose surprise reaction to the song’s famous drum break has gone viral. Views of the video posted by ‘TwinsthenewTrend’ have surpassed 4.5 million. LINK:  https://tinyurl.com/y65jjgfx
• Big Sugar – will issue a special 25th anniversary edition of their platinum-selling “Hemi-Vision” album. It will include newly-released lost takes, acoustic versions and dub remixes, plus 12-pages of liner notes written by Gordie Johnson and a foreword by Rush’s Alex Lifeson.  It drops on September 25.
• The Doors – Drummer John Densmore is releasing a new book this November, a follow-up to his 1990 memoir about life with Jim Morrison, titled “The Seekers: Meetings With Remarkable Musicians”. The book reflects on his journey in the industry alongside famous peers like Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, Paul Simon, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lou Reed, and Bob Marley.
• Luke Bryan – says his hit ‘One Margarita’ has a downside. He told Seth Meyers that while the song is titled ‘One Margarita’, its protagonist actually drinks three margaritas and a shot. And that has become a popular drink order for fans to send Bryan and his wife when they are dining out. Bryan says he appreciates the gesture, but “I don’t really need to black-out at me and my wife’s go-to restaurant.”
• Dan + Shay — have announced more than 30 tour dates for 2021, all after Labor Day. Meanwhile, the song ‘I Should Probably Go to Bed’ has soared from #50-#9 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, becoming the duo’s ninth top 10.

FITBIT BIT:
Yes, technology is an amazing thing. But it seems with it come more concerns…especially in regards to our gadgets. A study from the University of Copenhagen has concluded that fitness trackers are quite capable of collecting accurate data. And they definitely help motivate wearers to adopt a healthier lifestyle. But the same study also found a downside: they almost always make the wearer feel more anxious. The study’s co-author says the study of a group of heart patients found that they begin to use the information from their Fitbits just as they would use a doctor. However, they don’t get help interpreting their watch data. This makes them unnecessarily anxious, “or they may learn something that is far from reality.” For instance, if a patient noticed that he or she isn’t sleeping as well as the previous month, they would immediately worry that their diminished sleep patterns would have a negative effect on their heart.
(Mine makes me anxious…because it’s another damn thing that I have to charge every day!)
(I’m just be happy to see that it’s still beating!)

COFFEE: IS THERE ANYTHING IT CAN’T DO?
It seems that every week, there is another report about the benefits of drinking coffee. Well, here’s another…but it has nothing to do with your health. A new study from researchers at Aarhus University has found that a single cup of coffee dramatically enhances our sensitivity to sweetness, and diminishes our sensitivity to bitterness. Their test involved 156 volunteers who were given a cup of coffee. What they found was that although the subjects’ sense of smell was not altered afterward, their sense of taste was profoundly affected. They reacted more readily to sweet substances while being less attuned to bitter ones. The study’s author says that it is probably some of the bitter substances in coffee that create this effect.
(In short, a coffee and a donut is a perfect combination!)
(If it helps cancel out bitterness, why do I still hate my job?)
(The way I make coffee, it’s a good thing that the stuff diminishes my sensitivity to bitterness!)

MAKE IT A BLOCKBUSTER NIGHT:
The world’s last remaining Blockbuster Video location is now offering to rent area residents…an overnight stay. The video-rental store in Bend, Oregon has posted an offer on the vacation-rentals site Airbnb for one-night stays between Sept. 18-20, hosting up to four people at a time. How much? Just $4 – a penny more than the cost of a vintage video rental. The Airbnb listing notes the store hasn’t received regular visits from customers and tourists due to the pandemic. So, manager Sandi Harding says she is putting the overnight offer out there to give locals some relief from their quarantine-related stress. Guests can expect to spend their nights in a living-room set up next to aisles of shelves full of videotapes, complete with a pull-out couch in front of a television, snacks such as Doritos and Pepsi (in their 90s packaging), and things being the way they are these days, face masks, disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer.
(And to think that back in the day “getting lucky at Blockbuster” just meant that the top new release wasn’t rented!)
(Hold on…I didn’t catch all of that. Could you be kind and rewind?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Strangers can tell your social class in the first seven words you say. Researchers from the University of California-San Francisco and Yale University conducted experiments on the verbal and nonverbal signs of social class we signal in interactions, and determined that how we form our words gives away our social backgrounds, even more so than pictures or videos of us, or which purses, clothes, and cars we buy.

➠ McDonald’s is suing their ousted CEO, accusing him of concealing multiple affairs with subordinates. (Sleeping with an employee at McDonald’s is a BIG McSteak…)

➠ Fact of the Day:  If the world population consumed as much as the average American, we would need the resources of 5 Earths to survive. (How disgusting! Imagine how littered space would be with five more Earths!)
