Bully For You!

BS SUBSCRIBER NOTE:
There will be no “Bull Sheet” on Monday September 2, the Labour Day holiday. The Bull Sheet will resume on Tuesday, September 3rd.

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Ronan Farrow will expose the tactics Harvey Weinstein and other powerful men used to allegedly “cover up crimes and abuse” in a new book. The reporter son of actress Mia Farrow won a Pulitzer Prize for his reporting on the 2017 sexual abuse claims against the movie mogul, which prompted the #MeToo and Time’s Up anti-harassment and equal rights movements, and now he’s set to go into further detail with the release of his new book, “Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators”.

★ Chrissy Teigen has turned down her own chat show. The model and author was reportedly approached by bosses at NBC, but she passed on the offer, and the gig went to YouTuber Lilly Singh instead. There’s no word on why Teigen turned down the gig but she is currently working as a judge on the comedy competition series “Bring the Funny”, and is a host on “Lip Sync Battle”.
(Her social media alone is a full-time job!)

★ Carrie Fisher will play an integral role in “Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker”, according to J.J. Abrams. He’s teased details of the much-anticipated new movie, revealing the late actress – who passed away in 2016 – is central to the film’s storyline. Abrams wrote: ”We could never recast it and we didn’t want to do a CG character, so we actually realized there was footage we could use, that we could literally write scenes around and suddenly have (her) as an active part of this movie, and she’s great in the film.” He says that Fisher would be “proud” to be associated with the upcoming movie.

★ “Black Panther” fans can finally mark their calendars for the highly-anticipated sequel. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took the stage at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim to announce that the second movie of the “Black Panther” saga will debut in theaters on May 6, 2022. The first movie in the series won three Oscars — for original score, production and costume design.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Camila Cabello — is encouraging her fans to take a step back from their everyday hectic lives and dedicate special time to good ol’ fashioned breathing. She tweeted: “To anyone on here who is struggling, which we all do sometimes cause we’re human!!! I super recommend taking five minutes out of your day to just breathe.” Cabello, who has been open about her battle with OCD, wrote that she has “been doing this lately and it’s helped me so much.”
• Taylor Swift – Her new album “Lover” sold approximately 450,000 copies on Friday, making it easily the biggest first week sales for any album this year…and it all happened in one day. As well as being the biggest first week-selling album in 2019, it is also the biggest-seller since her 2017 album “Reputation”, which unloaded 1.216 million in its first week.
• Kanye West — brought his Sunday Service to Dayton, Ohio, to honor the victims of the recent mass shooting that left nine people dead and dozens injured. The gospel and worship event included Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and SNL’s Michael Che, along with West’s wife Kim Kardashian and their children. Kanye also led a crowd sing-along of ‘Happy Birthday’ to Chappelle, who turned 46 on Saturday, but didn’t perform.
• Talking Heads — former frontman David Byrne has announced a new online magazine called “Reasons To Be Cheerful” which he says will tell “stories that reveal that there are, in fact, a surprising number of reasons to feel cheerful — that provide a more optimistic and, we believe, more accurate depiction of the world.” His plan is to “balance out” the negativity out there and show that things might not be as bad as we think. LINK: https://reasonstobecheerful.world/
• Rod Stewart — celebrated the 40th birthday of his daughter Kimberley along with his wife and three ex-wives. The 74-year-old and his 48-year-old wife Penny Lancaster were joined by 49-year-old Rachel Hunter, 60-year-old Kelly Emberg and 74-year-old Alana Stewart, who is Kimberley’s mom – at the party last week. Emberg shared a photo of the singer and the mothers of seven of his eight children.
• The Rolling Stones – NASA have named a rock on Mars after them. It’s the size of a golf ball and was photographed by the InSight lander on Mars.  When the InSight lander touched down on the Red Planet in 2018, its thrusters blew the rock about 3 feet — making it a “rolling stone” in the most literal sense.
• Florida Georgia Line — will host their first-ever FGL Fest music festival Sept. 7 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The planned inaugural date in 2018 was canceled due to severe weather. Brian Kelly says: We’re all jacked. We feel like it’s gonna be even better than it could’ve been. We’ve had a lot of time to plan.” Sharing the bill with FGL are: Dan + Shay, Nelly, Mitchell Tenpenny, Canaan Smith, Payton Smith, and Blanco Brown.
• Miranda Lambert – has been teasing songs off “Wildcard”, her new album due out Nov. 1, and yesterday she released her duet with Maren Morris, ‘Way Too Pretty for Prison’. Morris will join Lambert on the last leg of her “Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars” beginning in Charlottesville on Nov. 6.

THIS WEEK’S VIDEO RELEASES: (Streaming and/or DVD)
• “Aladdin” (PG, Kids/Family):  A street rat frees a genie from a lamp, granting all of his wishes and transforming himself into a charming prince in order to marry a beautiful princess. But soon, an evil sorcerer becomes hell-bent on securing the lamp for his own sinister purposes. (Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott)
• “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (PG-13, Action/Fantasy):  The crypto-zoological agency Monarch faces off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. (Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown)
• “Killers Anonymous” (R-Rated, Action/Adventure):  Tensions mount at Killers Anonymous, a support group for killers, as the members of the group try to unravel the mystery behind which one of them is responsible for the assassination attempt on a U.S. senator. (Gary Oldman, Jessica Alba)
• “Apocalypse Now: Final Cut” (R-Rated, Drama):  Francis Ford Coppola’s masterful 1979 Vietnam War epic was expanded in 2001 into “Apocalypse Now Redux” by adding 49 minutes of excised footage. This 2019 version clocks in midway between the two prior releases, including some of that added footage. (Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall)

THANK DOG:
No wonder we call them “man’s best friend”. A new study says that owning a pet, especially a dog, may be good for your heart. The study looked at 2,000 people in the Czech Republic with no history of heart disease. Researchers compared the cardiovascular health scores of pet owners with those of petless people, and, as you might expect, found that those who owned a pet were more physically active than those who did not. And, yes, when dog owners were compared with everyone else, it was found that they benefited most. But here is the surprising thing: The benefits of having a dog go beyond just increased physical activity. The study found that dog owners also tend to have a healthier diet than other pet-owners — thus contributing to better cardiovascular health, and better blood sugar levels, regardless of age. Researchers say that their findings are consistent with previous research that has shown that dog ownership leads to more physical activity, stress reduction, a rise in self-esteem and makes people more social.
(I know that my self-esteem skyrockets when I have to bend down and pick up a pile of doo-doo!)
(The stress reduction comes at the end of the day when you make it home and find that Rover hasn’t eaten the furniture!)
(Am I the only one who is wondering how it is that people who own things like fish and turtles end up being more physically active?)

FUEL ECONOMY MYTHBUSTING:
➠ The smaller engine is always most fuel-efficient:  Depends. Many manufacturers are replacing larger engines with smaller turbocharged ones, which provide bigger-engine power when needed. But they can get thirsty when they’re worked hard, so you might be better off with a larger non-turbo engine.
➠ “Treating” your vehicle to a tank of premium improves fuel efficiency:  You should move up a grade if your engine knocks or “pings”, but otherwise, save yourself the extra cost of premium fuel. All gasoline grades have detergents and additives to help keep your engine clean. (The only time I’ve done this is when I pushed the wrong button at the self-serve!)
➠ Buy your gas “cold”:  The idea is that you’ll get more gas for your cash if you buy at night or early in the morning when fuel is cooler and therefore more dense. The problem? The fuel in those underground tanks stays at a stable temperature, and even if it didn’t, you’d only realize a one percent difference. (Definitely not worth getting up early for!)
➠ Drop your pickup’s tailgate for better mileage:  In reality, trucks are designed to be most efficient when the tailgate is up. With the tailgate up at highway speeds, a “bubble” of slow-moving air forms in the bed. Air moving over the cab deflects off this bubble, reducing drag. (Plus, your groceries don’t fall out!)
➠ There was a 100-mile-per-gallon engine, but the industry killed it:  The auto industry may not be angelic, but killing a super-efficient engine doesn’t make sense, even among manufacturers that partnered with oil companies. The automaker with the patent to a 100 MPG car would own the world. (Until they become illegal…)
(Excuse me. I need to go look for my tailgate in the garage…)
