BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Former Disney Channel star Mitchel Musso was arrested Saturday night for public intoxication and theft. Police in Rockwall, Texas, busted the “Hannah Montana” alum, who portrayed ‘Oliver Oken’ on the hit series starring Miley Cyrus, after he was seen “acting belligerent” at a hotel. Police say that Musso went to a food market inside the hotel, “selected a bag of chips and began eating them.” When staff demanded payment for the snack, he allegedly “became verbally abusive” and stormed off. Police took him into custody near the hotel after discovering he had a number of outstanding traffic warrants.

★ Is Meghan Markle preparing to restart her acting career? That’s the word from Life & Style, with an anonymous source telling the magazine that the Duchess of Sussex is weighing offers. Reportedly, the recent popularity of “Suits” — the legal drama in which she starred from 2011-18 — has suddenly opened up an array of new possibilities. The source claims that Markle “is now planning an acting comeback,” and is being flooded with offers after Suits jumped to the top of Netflix’s viewership in June, racking up 3.1 billion minutes viewed in a single week.

★ Kelis and Bill Murray have reportedly called it quits. The pair were romantically linked for a few months after the actor was spotted attending several of Kelis’ shows in June. The Sun reports that 44-year-old Kelis split with Murray, who is 72, but they still are “very fond of each other”. On the other hand, Kelis responded to a social media user questioning whether she was “really dating Bill Murray” with the words: “ugh , no !”

★ Margot Robbie could’ve starred in “American Horror Story: Asylum” – but she didn’t get the part. Casting director Eric Dawson has spoken about seeing Robbie in action during a test for the second season of the FX series in 2012. In a podcast interview, he said: “Margot has a lot of ‘it’ factors.” He said the audition took place “right before she broke out” and already, “she was such a star. It was crazy, her star appeal when she walked in the room.” Robbie didn’t get the role, and went on to star in “Wolf of Wall Street”, but Dawson didn’t detail why she didn’t get the “American Horror Story” part.

★ Bob Barker is exiting quietly from Hollywood. Longtime publicist Roger Neal said that, in accordance with his client’s wishes, there will be no public services. The longtime game show host and animal activist died at his Hollywood Hills home on Saturday of natural causes at age 99. Barker will be laid to rest next to his wife, Dorothy Jo Gideon, at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in the Hollywood Hills.

★ “The Price is Right” fans are looking back at some of the show’s classic moments in the wake of Bob Barker’s death. And one of those moments involves a young Vanna White. Long before the world knew White for “Wheel of Fortune”, she was once a contestant on the price-guessing program. In a newly resurfaced clip from 1980, Barker — who died on Saturday at age 99 — relays a joke from the production team about White’s shirt. She laughs along and flashes a big smile. Unfortunately, White didn’t do too well. She stays a contestant for most of the show, but never makes it onto the stage because she continuously bids too high. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2629pfnd

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Bad Bunny – has reportedly been shooting a “gangster-themed” music video which will star legendary actor Al Pacino. It will also feature social media star Wayne Diamond, as well as actor Keith William Richards, who were both featured in the Adam Sandler film “Uncut Gems”.
• Miley Cyrus – Sunday, she launched a TikTok video series inspired by her introspective single ‘Used to Be Young’. In one vid, she scrolls through a list of the Top Country Songs of 1992, the year she was born, and when her dad Billy Ray Cyrus had a hit with ‘Achy Breaky Heart’. She says: “I have a lot of great memories singing music with my dad…I will say that I feel vocally my dad was underappreciated.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ynf4n9zs
• Oasis — Noel Gallagher says he’s “in, no matter what” for a reunion. Although he has been locked in a feud with Oasis bandmate and brother Liam Gallagher since the band imploded in 2009, Noel insists they’d both be part of the line-up if it ever reforms. Noel recently said it’s up to his brother to make peace – calling him a “coward” and insisting he’ll never make the call to reunite Oasis.
• Duran Duran – Ex-guitarist Andy Taylor says his prostate cancer is “asymptomatic”, after he was previously told he needed “palliative, end-of-life care”. He says his experimental treatment with chemicals results in him being “radioactive for several days”, during which he is unable to sleep in the same room as someone else, or use public transport.
• Alice Cooper – Vampyre Cosmetics have pulled out of a planned collaboration with him after he told an interviewer he finds the discourse surrounding trans rights “absurd” and thinks much of it is a “fad”. The company released a statement saying: “We stand with all members of the LGBTQIA+ community and believe everyone should have access to healthcare. All pre-order sales will be refunded.”
• BRELAND – Friday, he released ‘Cowboy Don’t’. He says this of the single: “I’ve been playing this at my live shows for the past 6months or so and watching the crowd go absolutely wild just pumps me up!” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yc8rrx6w
•  Jelly Roll — When his tour rolled through Rogers AR last week, he paid a visit to the local Walmart to purchase his latest album. He documented it in a hilarious video, with the caption: “Went to Walmart today in the home of Walmart and found redemption lol”. That’s a reference to the time he went to Walmart on his album release day, and it was nowhere to be found. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4w4sbfvz
• Anthony Oliver – The singer behind the huge, out-of-nowhere hit ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ released a video for a new song ‘I Want to Go Home,’ on YouTube last week. In 21 hours, the song received 1.6 million views, and it currently north of 4.5 million. In a Facebook post, Oliver claimed to have turned down a record label deal worth $8 million. SHOOTING THE BULL

THE KID HITS THE FAN:
Medical experts say they’re aren’t ‘fans’ of the practice of parents tossing their baby in the air – because of ceiling fans. It makes sense, too, because each year, about 2,300 children in the US are treated for head injuries caused by ceiling fans. Even more concerning, experts note that many ceiling fan injuries go unreported, which means the number of injuries is probably even higher. Lacerations were found to be the most-commonly treated ceiling fan injury, with ER docs tending to cuts in 3 out of 5 (60%) cases, but more serious injuries, like concussions and skull fractures, were also reported. Head injuries should always be inspected, and children should be monitored for worrying signs.
(Wow. Now I don’t feel so bad about breaking a beer bottle on a friend’s ceiling fan while celebrating a touchdown!)
(I don’t remember this ever happening to me . . . but it could explain some of the haircuts I had as a kid…!)

NEW TO YOU (AND ME):
❑ Eye doctors in Taiwan have discovered a natural solution for nearsightedness. With half of the world anticipated to be unable to see across a room without glasses or surgery by 2050, they say their simple solution to prevent childhood myopia, or nearsightedness is: spending more time in the great outdoors. In Taiwan, around 90% of high schoolers have already developed blurry vision—compared to just 50% of all age groups in Europe and the US. But in the few years since Taiwan launched a program to get young school children outside for 2 hours each day, myopia rates among primary school kids steadily declined from a peak of 50% to 46.1%. (The kids’ response? “Get off my screen and go outside? What’s there to see out there??”)
❑ Researchers looking to minimize food waste have found that coffee beans make concrete stronger. A team of Australian scientists managed to make concrete that is about 30% stronger by replacing 15% of the mixture’s sand with charred coffee grounds. Australia produces enough concrete that all 75,000 metric tonnes of the country’s annual coffee waste could be repurposed as a partial sand substitute. That would not only help the environment, it would also and reduce the construction industry’s demand for natural resources. The researchers are working with local governments to put their discovery into practice on future infrastructure projects. ([***Co-host***] is way ahead of the curve on this. He’s so cheap, he’s been re-using coffee grounds for years!)

DATE UPDATE:
If you’re going on a first date, maybe meeting up for a meal isn’t such a good idea. According to a survey, more than 4 in 5 adults believe dinner dates are the hardest to get away from. So, you might want to plan your “escape route” ahead of time, just in case it doesn’t go well. The survey of 2,000 actively-dating Americans found that while more than half (56%) tend to go for dinner and a movie as a first date, some other top choices are more escape-friendly. Half prefer casual drinks, followed by coffee (43%) or going to a market or picnic (34%). The OnePoll survey also found that on average, a first date should last a little less than 3 hours, and it takes respondents about 4 dates to feel comfortable with that person.
(I went on a first date once that lasted SEVEN hours. For some reason, it took her that long to decide to pay her half of the bill!)
(…and whatever you do, don’t EVER refer to a first date as an “evening engagement”!

DID YOU KNOW?
(***Preview for content***) Life is a little strange these days for French speakers. Why? Because in French, phonetically, “ChatGPT” sounds exactly the same as “chat j’ai pété, which, in French, means “Cat, I farted.” It seems to them that every time they come across English media or catch part of a conversation, people are saying with a straight face: “Is cat, I farted going to steal your job?” or “How are schools dealing with cat, I farted?”

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “According to Hoyle Day”, honoring Britain’s Edmond Hoyle on the anniversary of his death in 1769. He’s the guy who formalized the rules to many popular games. Thus, the expression “according to Hoyle” has come to mean ‘playing by the rules’.
• “International Day Against Nuclear Tests”, a UN observance to underscore the need for a unified attempt to prevent any further nuclear weapons testing. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3sap57zu
• “More Herbs, Less Salt Day”, because it’s ‘healthier, zestier and lustier!’ So, go ahead, spice up your life! What’s the world’s most-used spice? Black pepper.
• “Chop Suey Day”. It’s a stir fry made with a hodgepodge of ingredients like egg, meat, and vegetables. In fact, the name “chop suey” comes from a Cantonese word meaning “odds and ends”.
• “Lemon Juice Day”, the oddest juice. You’d never drink it straight up, but without it, so many of our food and drinks would be flat and dull. Lemon juice can also play an important role in food preservation when used in home canning.
• “Touch-A-Heart Tuesday”, a day to take the opportunity to show kindness to others. Just like the old 60’s tune goes, “Put a little love in your heart”. It’s a part of “Be Kind to Humankind Week”. Here are some ways you can observe the day…
☞ Don’t hesitate to offer a compliment
☞ Call someone just to say “Hi”
☞ Give someone a plant or flowers to brighten their day
☞ Be a good listener. Don’t jump to offer advice- just listen.
