BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Pete Davidson has deleted his Instagram account after writing that he doesn’t “want to be on this Earth anymore” in a post on Saturday. Davidson posted that “I’m doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don’t know how much longer i can last. all i’ve ever tried to do was help people.” The post came hours after he had posted in support of Kanye West, who had been tweeting about mental illness. After an outpour of support and concern, the NYPD said that Davidson was accounted for at work at NBC, and fine.

★ Dora the Explorer has found her villain. Benicio del Toro has closed a deal to voice “Swiper” the thieving fox, in a live-action feature based on the character from the popular Nickelodeon TV series. The signing is a late-in-the-game development, as the movie wrapped production in Australia two weeks ago.  That isn’t as strange as it sounds, as voice casts for CG characters often aren’t required until post-production begins. Isabela Moner of “Instant Family” fame is starring as Dora, and Michael Pena and Eva Longoria will play her parents.

★ Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan will play lovers in a new movie. The romance-drama “Ammonite” is set in an 1840s coastal town and follows the unlikely romance between palaeontologist Mary Anning and a wealthy London woman, to whom she unexpectedly becomes a nursemaid.  Production is scheduled to begin in March.

★ Disney Channel fired actor Stoney Westmoreland from “Andi Mack” after he was arrested in Salt Lake City, Utah for attempting to lure a minor for sex. Police say the 44-year-old intended to take the teen to a hotel room, but he was intercepted and charged with four counts of dealing in materials harmful to a minor and one count enticing a minor by internet or text. Westmoreland is currently being held in Salt Lake County prison on $30,000 bail.

★ Lou Ferrigno is recovering after a pneumonia vaccination went wrong. The “Incredible Hulk” actor shared the news to his social media accounts, revealing that he ended up in the hospital after he was allegedly incorrectly administered a pneumonia vaccine. He wrote: “I’ll be ok but it’s important that you keep an eye on who’s giving the shot and make sure they not only swab the spot correctly but that you watch the needle come out of the package.”
I thought he was looking a little green…)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Demo Lovato – was the top U.S. Google search term among people in 2018, ahead of Brett Kavanaugh and Logan Paul.  She also was the top search term for musicians, followed by Eminem, Ariana Grande, Rick Ross and Cardi B.
• Taylor Swift — Security for her concert California’s Rose Bowl in May included a facial recognition system monitored from Nashville.  A kiosk showing highlights of her rehearsals secretly recorded the faces of onlookers, which were sent to a “command post” which attempted to match those images to hundreds of images of known Taylor Swift stalkers, according to Rolling Stone.
• Ariana Grande — does not want any part of Kanye West’s Twitter fury.  She responded to Ye after he unleashed a tirade her way for using his feud with Drake to promote new songs from her and Miley Cyrus. Saturday morning, Grande tweeted: “With all due respect, i don’t need to use anyone to promote anything. Period.”
• Maroon 5 – has reportedly reached out to more than a half-dozen artists to join them onstage for the Super Bowl halftime show Feb. 3.  — and have yet to find anyone who’ll say yes. Among those considering an appearance are Cardi B, Andre Benjamin (a.k.a. Andre 3000), Mary J. Blige, Usher, Lauryn Hill and Nicki Minaj.  Maroon 5 still has not been officially announced as halftime headliners.
• Shakira — Prosecutors in Spain have filed tax evasion charges against her.  She’s accused of failing to hand over more than 14.5 million Euros (US $16.3 million) to the nation’s tax officials between 2012 and 2014.
• Tegan and Sara – will release a memoir in September 2019. “High School” is written from each sister’s point of view in alternating chapters, charting their individual journeys while being raised in Calgary amid the grunge culture of the 1990s, and grappling with identity and sexuality.
• Guns N’ Roses — Slash says rock music has been ”dull and boring” for the last decade. He feels bands were pressured into making their songs radio friendly rather than doing something new and exciting, prompting fans to flock to other genres such as rap and hip-hop. He points to Greta Van Fleet as an example of how things are changing again in rock’s favor.
• Tragically Hip – The Alberta Ballet will perform their music across Canada in a presentation called “All of Us”.  It tells the story of two warring clans who battle to inherit the earth to redesign its future anew. The drama features a soundtrack highlighting 20 iconic songs from The Hip’s 30-year career.  Tickets go on sale Wednesday for the spring tour.
• Maggie Rose — has been selected as the third opening act on 3 dates of Kelly Clarkson’s 2019 tour. Rose made her debut in 2010 with her cover of Kings of Leon’s ‘Use Somebody’ under the name Margaret Durante. Kelsea Ballerini and Brynn Cartelli will also serve as openers.
• Chris Cagle will come out of retirement, if only for one night. He has announced that he’ll headline the Guthrie’s River Ruckus Festival in Iowa next July.  He also promises that new music is on the way.

FATHER CHRISTMAS?
When a logo design company asked people how they would like to update the image of Santa Claus, 28 percent of survey respondents said that they believe Santa should be a woman or gender neutral.  Graphic Springs surveyed 400 people in the U.S. and U.K., then 4,000 people voted on the suggestions.  Nearly 11 percent voted for a female Santa, while 17 percent approved of a gender-neutral Kris Kringle.
Among the other suggestions:
• 22% said he should trade the sleigh and reindeer for a flying car.
• 25% said he should turn in his boots and wear trainers.
• 21% said he should go on a diet.
• 23% said he should use Amazon Prime.
• 20% said a tattooed Santa would be cool.
• 18 % said he should get a new hairstyle and wear skinny jeans.
(Before you get your gender-neutral shorts in a knot, remember that 72% of people thought that Santa should remain a man!)
(Did anybody bother to ask Mrs. Claus about him having a sex-change?)
(I’m not sure that “She’s making a list, checking it twice” has the same ring to it…)

WORST IMPRESSION:
New research shows that you have exactly 27 seconds to make a good first impression.  The study of 2,000 Americans found that seven in ten people form a first impression of somebody before they even speak.  Key contributors to a positive first impression included smiling, being polite, smelling nice, being a good listener and making eye contact.  Oh, and on a first date?  The first impression is formed even sooner, and most people say they can tell within 15 minutes whether they want a second date or not.  The top three contributors to making a BAD first impression?  Smelling bad, being arrogant, and dressing poorly.
(Actually, the first impression is usually formed on Google before you even meet!)
(I’m glad that a first impression is made before I even speak.  That way I at least have a chance…)
(And as I found out in school, if you have older siblings, your first impression is already made!)

EATING CLEAN:
Almost everyone gives their apple a quick rinse before eating it. That’s not only to wash off dirt and debris, but also to remove any pesticides.  But how effective is it?  A 2008 study found that tap water only reduced the residue of five different pesticides by 20 percent.  And that goes for other fruits and vegetables as well. So, what should we do?  For one, don’t waste your money on one of those commercial produce washers.  They were rated as no more effective than rinsing it in cold water.  Try vinegar. It was found to reduce the residues of six different pesticides by as much as 94%.  Fill a spray bottle with one-part vinegar to three parts water and keep it next to the sink.
(Or in your lunch bag?)
(Great.  Any tips on removing that stupid sticker?)
(I’m more concerned about removing any lingering “fertilizer”…)

DID YOU KNOW?
New research shows that stethoscopes carried by health-care practitioners are generally “significantly contaminated with a rich and diverse community of bacteria.”  Cleaning reduced the number of bacteria, but failed to bring contamination to the level of new stethoscopes.
