BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Colin Kroll, CEO of the popular trivia app HQ Trivia, was found dead in his apartment on Saturday night of an apparent drug overdose, according to reports. He was 35. Kroll co-founded HQ Trivia and was named CEO in September. The trivia app was enormously popular when it launched but that popularity had waned in recent months. Kroll also co-founded Vine, a short-form video hosting service where users could share six-second-long video clips, which was acquired by Twitter in 2012.

★ Pete Davidson is leaning on one of his good friends in the wake of posting a seemingly suicidal message on social media. Rapper Machine Gun Kelly flew to New York to be by Davidson’s side after he wrote on Instagram that he didn’t want to “be on this earth anymore.” Davidson made a brief appearance in the live taping of SNL to introduce musical guest Miley Cyrus.

★ An actress who filed a lawsuit against disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein on Friday reportedly claims he boasted about sleeping with Jennifer Lawrence — something both Weinstein and Lawrence deny. In response, Lawrence said in a statement: “My heart breaks for all the women who were victimized by Harvey Weinstein. I have never had anything but a professional relationship with him. This is yet another example of the predatory tactics and lies that he engaged in to lure countless women.”  The unactress alleges that Weinstein not only assaulted her, but threatened to harm her career if she objected, saying, “I slept with Jennifer Lawrence and look where she is; she has just won an Oscar.”

★ A lawyer representing one of the alleged victims of Bill Cosby is vowing in a civil court case to show sex tapes which were secretly recorded at the Playboy Mansion. Hefner reportedly had someone ditch a number of incriminating sex tapes into the Pacific Ocean toward the end of his life.  But a lawyer says that he has uncovered a treasure trove of recordings involving “dozens” of high-profile celebrities. He says the tapes were handed over by Playboy Enterprises and appear to have been professionally edited and “produced.”

★ A week before “Aquaman” has its wide release in the United States, the latest DCEU film continues to do big business overseas. Over the weekend, the film earned $126.4 million at the foreign box office, bringing its current combined earnings to $261.3 million, with China remaining the biggest market for the film to date.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Cardi B — is asking her fans to treat her estranged husband Offset kindly after he crashed her show with a groveling apology and a banner reading “take me back”. She posted a video saying in part: “I’m not saying that I’m going to get back together with him. I just don’t like that bashing online thing.”
• Nicki Minaj — is asking others to show empathy for Kanye West and Pete Davidson, who both spoke publicly about living with mental illness on Saturday.  Minaj tweeted: “We can be so insensitive. God bless Kanye & Pete. Being flippant about mental illness speaks more about you than them. Stop saying the word love & live it. Love is an action.”
• The Kinks — Guitarist Dave Davies has revealed that he and Dolores O’Riordan had planned to collaborate before she died, saying, “We talked about writing together – I had an idea for a song called ‘Home’, about being home again, and she understood what I was trying to say. But we never sat down to do it, and that makes me really sad…We said we’d meet when she was next in London, and that was that.”
• Stevie Nicks – says the most important part of her second induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is that she will be the first woman to achieve the honor. She will be recognized for her solo career as part of the Class of 2019, after being inducted as a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1998. She’ll become the 23rd person to be inducted twice.
• Guns N’ Roses — Guitarist Richard Fortus says the band is aiming to release an album of new music “faster than you think.” While he wouldn’t divulge how much work has been completed, he did say that the release of new music by the end of 2019 “could definitely happen” and “there might be stuff started.”
• Toby Keith – His song ‘Don’t Let the Old Man In’ was inspired by a conversation he had with Clint Eastwood. Keith says he asked Eastwood how he kept working at his age, explaining: ”He said, ‘I just get up every morning and go out. And I don’t let the old man in’. And I thought, I’m writing that.”
• Garth Brooks – His “Garth: Live at Notre Dame!” TV special on Dec. 2 was so well-viewed, CBS plans to air it again.  Nearly 10 million viewers tuned in to see Brooks perform the first live concert ever held at the legendary Notre Dame Stadium, at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. The rebroadcast will air Dec. 28 at 8PM ET/PT.

I STINK IT’S THIS WAY:
If you have a strong sense of direction, chances are you also have a good sniffer, according to new research. To test this correlation between spatial memory and the sense of smell, researchers asked 57 participants to do a couple of different tasks relating to spatial memory, and their association with different smells. They found that two similar regions of the brain (the hippocampus and the medial orbitofrontal cortex) are both involved in these seemingly very different activities.  What is the co-relation between your sense of direction and sense of smell?  Scientists aren’t sure, but they believe that both systems in the brain evolved at roughly the same time.  “The research appears Nature Communications.”
(That’s why they say some people can find their way by “following their nose”?)
(All I know is that I’m always getting lost, and it stinks…)

THERE WENT SANTA CLAUS:
Santa Claus had a rough trial run during the Christmas Fantasy Parade down Disneyland’s Main Street U.S.A. in California on Saturday.  Santa’s sleigh broke during the parade and wound up launching the jolly old elf right out of his seat. He was left dangling by his safety harness while he waited for crew members to help him down.  Some parade-goers posted video showing Santa remaining calm while dangling a few feet off the ground.  Once he was removed, he walked the rest of the parade route, smiling at guests and spreading holiday cheer with his sleigh trailing behind.  The mishap delayed the parade, but no one was injured by the float collapse.
(For the sake of the many young ears present, I sincerely hope that Santa was not “mic’d up” when the incident occurred!)
(He knows if you’ve been bad or good, but apparently he doesn’t know too much about the condition of his sleigh…)
(Do the elves make Santa’s sled, too?  Because I’m guessing that if that’s the case, someone is getting fired!

FROM THE BS POLL VAULT:
A statistical look at who we are and the things we do …

• 69% of us say that the worst part of the holiday season is wrapping presents.
• 87% of us have employers who allow Christmas decorations in the workplace.
• 5% of us say we are still paying off Christmas bills from last year.
• 25% of us say we have tried to get into the wrong car after holiday shopping.
• 45% of us have re-gifted a present to a friend or co-worker.

DID YOU KNOW?
Scientists say that while every planet we know of is sphere-shaped, it is technically possible, taking into account all of the known laws of physics, that a donut-shaped planet could exist.
