BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Britney Spears turned 43 on Monday, but she claims in concerning new Instagram videos that she’s really 5 — and she’s moving to Mexico. In clips posted to her IG account, Spears starts off by talking about how the paparazzi put her on a plane with a mask over her face while carrying a torch given to her by a friend. She also discusses her birthday, wrongly stating that she turned 42 when she’s actually 43. She goes on to say she’s actually only 5 — and going to kindergarten, and has moved to Mexico because the paparazzi are cruel in the way they portray her. Spears was photographed Monday heading to a private jet on a tarmac at an L.A.-area airport. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yjka7v6j

★ The new trailer for Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White” has been released, showcasing more of Rachel Zegler’s vocals, the 7 dwarfs, and Gal Gadot’s villainous turn as the ‘evil queen’. Directed by Marc Webb, it is the latest Disney remake of the 1937 animated classic “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” This version follows ‘Snow White’ after the jealous wicked queen, who also happens to be her mother, orders her murder. Snow White runs away into a forest and discovers the magic of the 7 dwarfs in a cottage. The film hits theaters March 21. LINK: https://youtu.be/iV46TJKL8cU

★ “Cheers” star Ted Danson will receive the Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globes next month. Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne said: “Ted Danson has entertained audiences for decades with his iconic performances that will forever be ingrained in television history.” The award honors the lasting impact of career achievements in television. Danson is the 5th recipient, following Burnett, Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy and Ellen DeGeneres. He’ll be honored at the Jan 3 ceremony, along with Cecil B. DeMille Award winner Viola Davis.

(***Preview for content***) ★ Daniel Craig found no solace on the set of his second James Bond movie. He recalled the “difficult” time he had making 2008’s “Quantum of Solace” on the latest episode of the “Awards Chatter” podcast. Describing how the Writers Guild of America strike interrupted production of the movie, Craig said it was a “F-ing nightmare.” According to the former 007, “(Director) Paul Haggis…went off and joined the picket line and we didn’t have writers. So, we didn’t have a script.” He feels that as a result, production should never have begun then, “but we did. I ended up writing a lot of that film, which I probably shouldn’t say. I do not want the credit. It’s fine.”

★ Timothée Chalamet went viral for crashing his own lookalike contest in New York City, but he showed even more support for the competition behind the scenes. Halfway through the gathering on Oct. 27, NYPD showed up and ousted the thousands of attendees from Washington Square Park. Event organizer Anthony Po was issued a $500 fine for hosting a public event without a permit. But the 23-year-old told People mag that after his social media post about the fine went viral, he heard from Chalamet’s team, which offered to pay the ticket. Though appreciative, Po says he declined Chalamet’s kind offer.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Charli XCX – Rolling Stones has named “Brat” the #1 album of 2024. The mag says the album is “not only a hyperpop roller coaster of post-Saturn return, early-30s anxieties, and It-girl bravado, it’s also a still growing, evolving project.” #2 is Beyoncé‘s “Cowboy Carter”. Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” is #23.
• Selena Gomez — In an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning”, she gushed about People naming her boyfriend, songwriter/producer Benny Blanco, one of 2024’s Sexiest Men Alive. Quote: “That’s my man! It was very charming.” She went on to say” “To have someone support me, encourage me, inspire me and motivate me, it brings me a joy…I’m really, really lucky.”
• Eminem — TMZ reports that his mother, Debbie Nelson, has died following a battle with lung cancer at age 69. Early in his career, he accused her of being neglectful and abusive, airing their dirty laundry in songs such as ‘Cleanin’ Out My Closet’. She sued him in 1999 for defamation, but they had seemingly reconciled in recent years.
• Oasis – Noel Gallagher is warning fans to expect a “less raucous” tour than history might suggest when the band reunites next summer. Quote: “We’re on the wrong side of 50 now, so we’re too old…so there won’t be any fallouts, there won’t be any fighting. It’s a lap of honour for the band.”
• Gene Simmons – has released a music video for ‘Stormy Weather’, the 1933 jazz standard he covered for the recently released “Reagan” biopic. The clip alternates between footage of Simmons singing in the studio and scenes from film featuring Dennis Quaid as Ronald Reagan, and Mena Suvari as his first wife Jane Wyman. • Avril Lavigne – Her “Greatest Hits Tour” will continue into the new year. She’ll kick off a new leg on May 18 and play 19 dates across North America, wrapping June 27 in Bethel NY. Simple Plan will open the US shows, and Fefe Dobson will open the Canadian ones. LINK: https://avrillavigne.com/
• Ashley McBride — recently celebrated a major milestone in her sober journey, crossing the 900-day mark. To mark the occasion, she posted a video showing her during a boxing workout, and saying: “I’m so grateful for today.” She wrote in the caption: “The gut punch (understatement) when I realized a choice HAD to be made. It was either continue and die, or stop and learn to live.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2fr2nayz
• Cody Jinks – has announced both the new album “Cody Jinks Sings Lefty Frizzell”, which will drop on Friday, and his 2025 “Hippies and Cowboys Tour”, starting March 14 in New Orleans. The album will contain 9 songs in tribute to the late honky-tonk legend.
• Dolly Parton – Last week she was named the Greatest Country Artist of All Time by Billboard. Her reaction: “They have my name sitting at the top, can you believe that? . . . I take none of this for granted. So, thank you for giving me the opportunity . . . to see my dreams come true.” She concluded by singing a line from ‘I Will Always Love You’. SHOOTING THE BULL
YEAR END ACCOUNTING:
It’s officially “best of” season – when websites and publications create their lists of the year’s top movies, music, news stories — and whatever else they can think of. But financial experts are suggesting you make your own list – of the best subscriptions that you pay for – and ditch the rest. Between streaming platforms, apps, gym memberships and meal kits, subscriptions tend to pile up, and before you know it, the costs can really add up, too. One great idea is to audit your subscriptions. Simply check your bank account and credit card statements and take note of every subscription payment. Once you have your list, separate the memberships into categories, such as: Health, TV & movies, music, apps & games, and business & finance. From there, look for any redundancies, because why pay for 2 music services, or other dual subscriptions? Those are the first ones to go. Next, evaluate each subscription, and decide how often you use it. For example, if you pay $100 a month for a high-end gym that you only go to once a week, you’re paying $25 for each visit. Is that worth it to you? Finally, if you find you are on the fence about some subscriptions, consider downgrading to a more affordable subscription tier, which might still give you access, but at a lower cost.
(Oh, believe me, if there’s a cheaper way to get something, I’ve already got it!)
(Shouldn’t there be an app for this?)

COFFEE TALK:
❑ The world’s largest iced latte has been served – in an 11-foot (3.6m) tall cup. Social media star Nick DiGiovanni teamed up with Dunkin’ to break the Guinness World Record for the largest iced latte. DiGiovanni, who is also a chef, filled an 11-foot-high Dunkin’ cup with ice, milk and espresso. After Guinness confirmed the record, the 276-gallon beverage was poured into smaller cups and served to more than 300 employees at Dunkin’s corporate office in Massachusetts. (That’s nearly a gallon each. Apparently, Americans really DO run on Dunkin’!)
❑ A Scottish dairy is offering what it is calling the UK’s most expensive cup o’ joe: US$344 for a ‘flat white’, which is a double shot of espresso topped with a layer of steamed milk and a fleeting work of foam art. That’s about 80 times the average price. Sure, it sounds expensive – but it comes with benefits. The costly cup is actually a perk given to those who buy shares in Mossgiel Organic Dairy’s crowdfunding campaign to enlarge its sustainable operation and produce more milk. Investors who buy 34 shares in the farm get a certificate for a flat white that can be redeemed at one of 13 coffee shops in Scotland that use the dairy’s milk. (It that deal was offered around here, I’d own a Starbucks after about 5 days!)

APPRECIATION CONVERSATION:
Do you feel more appreciated at your job at this time of year? More than half of us do, according to a new survey. A talker Research poll of 2,000 employees in the US found that 55% feel more appreciated during the holiday season than at any other time of the year. Perhaps as a result of that warm and tingly feeling, 65% said they will likely attend their workplace holiday party this year. Of course, the free food is a factor, cited by 39% as a reason for going. 34% said they’d probably go if their work friends go, too. And by the way, if you’re a supervisor, here is something to keep in mind: 46% of workers said they value appreciation for their work from the boss even more than receiving regular raises (!).
(Not me. The only “appreciation” that I want to see is when its applied to the size of my paycheck!)
(I, for one, DO NOT feel like I’m appreciated more simply because I get to hear Mariah Carey’s Christmas song 3 or 4 times every time I go to work!)

FOOD TRENDS FROM THE LAST 10 YEARS THAT MIGHT BE OFFICIALLY “DEAD”:
According to an article in “Cheapism”, these food trends from the last decade are “dead” – or dying. See if you agree…
✗ Cake Pops: These were everywhere for a while, but now have found their (much smaller) audience: kids. (How do we know? The pleas from the backseat while at the Starbucks drive-thru!)
✗ Sriracha: It is still available at many restaurants, but has certainly faded since the frenzy of a few years ago. (Good! I never did figure out how to spell it!)
✗ Gluten-Free Everything: There was a time when it seemed that everything was labelled gluten-free (even if it had never had gluten to begin with). But finally, people realized that gluten-free is a big deal for those with celiac disease and serious gluten intolerance, but not most others. (I always ordered gluten on the side, anyway…)
✗ Frozen Yogurt Shops: In many areas, they seem to have packed up and left, but lots of fro-yo lovers still miss them. (Not me! I saw waaay to many people sticking their fingers in the dispensers and licking them!)
✗ Bacon Everything: While fast food places still slap bacon on everything, the demand isn’t what it once was – especially during the heights of the Keto diet. (You have to admit – it was a great substitute for a bun!)
✗ Mason Jars: The low-key farmhouse aesthetic might look good, but they’re a weird shape to drink – and the lids are tough to properly clean. (I never wanted to look like a hipster so much that I felt the need to go out and buy those things!)
✗ Sushi burritos: Thanks to social media, they were big in the 2010s – but they’re hard to find now. (Gotta say, though, clickbait or not, a sushi burrito doesn’t sound bad right now!)
✗ Cupcakes: Remember when cupcake stores started a huge trend? But like many desserts, they aren’t as hot as they once were. (Hey, if you’ve never seen a cupcake wedding cake, consider yourself lucky!)
✗ Pulled pork: For a while it was everywhere — pulled pork fries, on your burger, on nachos, on mac and cheese, even on eggs benny. (I don’t see the problem here…)

DID YOU KNOW?
“Whamageddon” is underway for another year. It’s a game that takes place each holiday season in which players try to avoid hearing Wham’s seasonal song ‘Last Christmas’ from Dec. 1 through Christmas Eve. There’s an official website where you can sign up, which lists the official rules to the game – and you might find some handy hints to beating your friends and family at the task. Like what? Like deliberately sending them a “Whamhalla”, of course…! (I’m already out — I went to the mall over the weekend!) LINK: https://whamageddon.com/

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Cookie Day”, celebrating the yummiest treat of all. What’s the best kind? Chocolate chip? Oatmeal and raisin? Peanut butter with macadamia nuts? (Anything, as long as there’s milk?)
• “Extraordinary Work Team Recognition Day”, created in 2000 as a day to pass out ‘attaboys’ to employee teams that work extraordinarily well together to produce significant results for their company or organization. (It’s far cheaper than year-end bonuses…)
• “Santa’s List Day”, the day the big guy supposedly decides who’s been naughty and who’s been nice (Does that make tomorrow “Do Whatever You Want Because Santa has Already Made his List Day”?)
• “Wear Brown Shoes Day”, for some unknown reason. To get the full effect, make sure you wear ’em with something black. (To get half-effect, wear ONE brown shoe)
• “Choose Women Wednesday”, this glass ceiling-shattering holiday is for listening to, supporting, and standing up for women. Supporting women-owned businesses is the main focus of the day, but it has the broader goal of closing the gender gap in all areas.
• “World Wildlife Conservation Day”, with the aim of raising awareness and engaging conservationists to put an end to wildlife crime. Some species are still being slaughtered by criminal networks driven by a voracious demand for illegal animal parts and products.
• “Special Kids Day”, started in 1990 as a seasonal event for children with special needs and their families to visit Santa Claus in environments designed to accommodate them.
• “International Cheetah Day”, celebrating the world’s fastest land animal. They can hit 70mph (110kph), as fast as cars drive on the highway – but cheetahs are able to reach top speed in just 3 seconds! (FUN FACT: Cheetahs have “tear marks” that run from the inside corners of their eyes to the outside edges of their mouth. These help reflect the glare of the sun, just like the black marks that football players put under their eyes during a game. LINK: https://internationalcheetahday.com/
