BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Netflix will NOT be adding a disclaimer to “The Crown” stating that the show is fictionalized. Last week, the U.K. Culture Secretary asked that a label be added to the show, citing that he fears “a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact.” But Netflix disagrees, claiming their viewers are aware that it is “a work of fiction that’s broadly based on historical events.” Season 4 of The Crown depicts Princess Diana’s struggles with bulimia in several episodes, which are flagged with a health warning at the beginning.

★ Annie Murphy is blessing us all with an Instagram account dedicated to her singing covers of famous songs. For example, the “Schitt’s Creek” star used her alter ego, ‘Anny Morphee’, to post a rendition of Zooey Deschanel’s ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’. She captioned it: “Come with me on this magical Christmas tutorial as I teach you how to steal the voice of someone else and force it out of your vocal cords, while singing one of the sexiest Christmas Carols of all time.” Other imitations include Sia, Justin Bieber and Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’.

★ Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell say they’d love to make a movie starring their “whole family”. The couple have reunited on screen for the first time since 1987’s “Overboard” in the festive flick “Christmas Chronicles 2”, but would like to take the collaboration further and incorporate Hawn’s children – Kate and Oliver Hudson – and Russell’s son Wyatt into another film. And as Hawn recently pointed out, “There’s the grandchildren too. They are all so talented, so there’s the possibility of one day making a movie with the whole family. We’ll see.” (That makes one of us…)

★ YouTube is streaming 19 James Bond films — for free! The site is allowing users to go back and watch Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan save the world as secret agent 007. A deal has been done with MGM, the studio behind the majority of the iconic spy movies, and during December, viewers in the US can find them by heading to youtube.com/watchbond. Fans outside the US… sorry. but it looks like you’ll still have to pay to watch them. (As Bond would say, “It’s shocking. Positively shocking.”)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Timberlake — teamed up with Ant Clemons for the new song ‘Better Days’. Clemons says they came up with it after a Zoom conversation about the state of the world. Quote: “My prayer is that this song is a reflection of hope…for a brighter future and hope for better days because better days lie ahead.”
• Beyoncé — Dolly Parton would love her to cover her 1974 single ‘Jolene’. Jolene has been recorded by more than 400 artists, but Parton says “nobody’s ever had a really big hit record on it. I’ve always hoped somebody might, someday, someone like Beyoncé.”
• Chance the Rapper — Dionne Warwick, of all people, tweeted him, asking: “If you are very obviously a rapper why did you put it in your stage name? I cannot stop thinking about this.” His reply: “Sorry I’m still freaking out that u know who I am. This is amazing!” Then he added that he’s happy to go by “whatever you wanna call me Ms Warwick.
• Eminem — made a surprise cameo on “Saturday Night Live” on the weekend. He appeared in a segment called “Stu”, parodying his 2000 single ‘Stan’, in which Pete Davidson played an obsessed fan of Santa Claus.
• Evanescence – will release their new album “The Bitter Truth” on March 26. It’ll be the band’s first album of original material in almost a decade.
• Mötley Crüe — has launched its own line of hot sauce. The limited-edition CRÜE hot sauce set is selling for $75.00 and includes Wild Side Garlic Hot Sauce, Primal Scream Scorpion Pepper Hot Sauce, and Shout at The Devil Extra Hot Sauce.
• Chuck Wicks – He and his wife, Kasi, are proud parents. The country star couple welcomed Tucker Elliott Wicks on Friday. The pair were married in July, and Kasi, who has 3 daughters from a previous marriage, said she’d thought she was “done” having kids until she met Wicks, and “couldn’t imagine not having a child with him”.
• Carly Pearce – pays tribute to her longtime friend, songwriting partner and producer, busbee in her new song ‘Show Me Around’. Michael James Ryan—known professionally as busbee—died in 2019 at 43 from an aggressive form of brain cancer. LINK: https://youtu.be/s7f0a_2dZ_c
• Tracy Lawrence – His 15th annual Mission Possible Turkey Fry and Benefit Concert on Nov. 24 raised more than $125,000 for the Nashville Rescue Mission. This year’s concert featured Lawrence, Chris Young, Tim McGraw, Cole Swindell, John Rich, Mitchell Tenpenny and more, and was live-streamed for free, but viewers were encouraged to make donations and bid on auction items.
ANIMATED REACTION:
A team of psychologists say that popular kids’ cartoons like “Peppa Pig,” “Toy Story,” and “Frozen” are too violent and give children an unrealistic view of pain. A study conducted by researchers in the UK found that many animated films, including “Despicable Me,” “Finding Dory,” and “The Incredibles” plus TV shows like “Octonauts” feature characters that do not show empathy when someone is injured. Their research found that young viewers watching this type of show see nearly nine incidents of violence or pain an hour. Almost half the time, onlookers in the programs express a lack of sympathy. They say that showing empathy is important for how children interact with others, such as when a friend might be hurt in the playground or when they go to the doctors for routine vaccinations.
(It could have been worse. Imagine if these kids were watching rugby! [or hockey!])
(I get what they’re saying, but I watched The Roadrunner the whole time I was growing up and there’s nothing wr….oh. NOW I get what they’re saying!)
(If any of these kids have older siblings, they’re already quite used to the concept of getting no sympathy when someone is in pain!)

ACCOMODATING STUDENTS:
A group of Princeton grads are trying to help salvage the traditional fun and debauchery that co-eds are missing out on this year due to the pandemic, by packing students into a hotel. The “U Experience” will be mask-free and un-distanced, allowing them to co-exist in a “bubble” and thereby make “online learning attractive” according to on of the organizers. He says that instead of being forced to take their internet courses “in their parents’ basement, students will be able to partake in the partying banned at their real university by staying together at the sprawling hotel — which boasts three pools, a marina, a golf course, volleyball courts and five restaurants — while still pursuing a degree from their home institution. The plan is to house 150 students at the Tanglewood Resort, on Lake Texoma near the border between Texas and Oklahoma, starting in January.
(Yeah, they said MY college was “un-distanced” too. A fat lot of good that did for me…)
(I’m thinking that the resort industry must be REALLY hurting to want to go along with this!)
(Apparently, they think it’s worth the ol’ college try…)

POSTING FOR HELP:
What you post on Facebook could go a long way in predicting whether you will develop certain mental illnesses, according to s study. The findings, published in Nature Partner Journals Schizophrenia, found that those with schizophrenia or mood disorders were more likely to use curse words in Facebook instant messages compared to healthy volunteers. Participants with mood disorders also tended to use more words related to blood and pain — and used “negative emotion” language such as the words “sad,” “upset” and “down” more frequently than healthy participants. Schizophrenia patients used more perception words – like “hear,” “see” and “feel” and more emphatic punctuation. The scientists who conducted the study hope to use this type of analytics to help identify warnings for suicide and other forms of violence.
(And what does it say about the mental health of people who can’t seem to eat a meal without posting a picture first?)
(These guys are gonna have a field say when they move on to analyzing what some people post on Twitter!)

GIVE THESE UP TO BECOME DEBT-FREE IN 2021:
(According to experts…)
☞ Eating out constantly: Although 34% of us say we wouldn’t sacrifice meals out in order to become debt-free, you could save as much as $150 per week by eating breakfast at home and brown-bagging lunch. (Hey, at least I’ve stopped eating at buffets…)
☞ Monthly subscriptions: Review how many of these you have, and what ones you can give up. How much do you pay for the gym, cable TV, streaming, etc.? Think about sharing subscriptions or just buying day-passes at the gym. (Why would I buy a day-pass for something I never go to – Oh. Now I get it.)
☞ Buying in bulk: This is where many think they’re saving, but aren’t. Often, we buy more than we need in order to save. Try this: Instead of buying a 12-pack of batteries for $25 when you need just two of them, buy the 2-pack for $5 and put the other $20 toward your debt. (That way, you’ll still be able to use the remote control to watch TV when you get fired because you didn’t finish your work because of the dead batteries in your computer mouse!)
☞ Name brand products: Switching from premium to generic when shopping for food, medications, office supplies, cosmetics and more could save you more than $1,500 per year, according to a study. (I bought a generic laxative. I figured I could make “doo” with that…)
☞ Spending for the sake of social media: A survey showed that 90% of millennials say that social media “creates a tendency for them to compare their own wealth or lifestyle to that of their peers.” Know your real goals — not the ones dictated by others. (In other words, borrow your rich friends’ cars and clothes for your pics!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Queen Elizabeth II is mourning the loss of her dog, Vulcan. According to reports, Vulcan, a Dorgi (a cross between a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a Dachshund) passed away from old age at Windsor Castle, where Her Majesty and Prince Philip are self-isolating and plan to spend the holidays. The 94-year-old monarch’s only remaining dog is believed to be ‘Candy’. Her Majesty has had more than 30 Corgis since 1945, but in recent years, she has stopped breeding dogs. (Vulcan? Not exactly what you’d expect for a ‘royal’ pet. After 30 of them, was she running out of names?)

• “Brownie Day”, celebrating the chewy chocolate in a pan that you just can’t quit eating.
• “Pretend to Be a Time Traveler Day”, created in 2007 by the Koala Wallop online community that combines performance art, humor, and plain old fun. The basic premise is to pretend to be someone from the past or future who’s somehow ended up in the present. (No comments about my wardrobe…)
• “Take It In the Ear Day”, a day to learn how to accept criticism graciously. (What did ya THINK?)
• “National Christmas Tree Day”, a day to put up your Christmas tree. Many people go out and cut down a real tree, tie it to the roof of their car, bring it back to their home. Others drag a box out of the attic, basement or closet, bring out the flattened branches of an artificial tree, fluff them up, and stick them into a post. (But there’s a much-lower chance of vermin escaping into your home when using this method…)
• “National Lard Day”, while traditionally viewed as unhealthy, lard can be used to incorporate healthy fats into a nutritional diet. Lard Day showcases how it can be used and how it is considered a better fat option than butter or grease.

TODAY’S SLICE OF BS:
➠ A study claimed that men with beer bellies are statistically more likely to have weaker bones. (Maybe, but they’re also more likely to have a killer Super Bowl party. . . so, take the good with the bad.)
➠ NBC announced it will continue their tradition of airing “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Christmas Eve at 8pm Eastern. (Every year, Americans gather to watch it on TV. These Americans are called “people that don’t have Netflix”.)
➠ Miley Cyrus has posed topless for Rolling Stone magazine. (Which is too bad, because like you, I was really hoping she was going to use the opportunity as a forum to share her idea on a workable strategy for creating peace between Israel and Palestine.)
➠ 36-year-old “American Idol” alum Katharine McPhee and her 70-year-old husband, music mogul David Foster, are expecting their first child together. For Foster, it will be his 6th. (So, more than enough pallbearers…)
➠ Mariah Carey has launched her own cookie brand. (So you can get fat, While the lady sings…)
