Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Simon Cowell has done it again. He crashed his e-bike and landed in hospital with broken bones. Sources say he was tooling around on the bike in London when he turned a sharp corner . . . or at least tried to. The road was wet and the tires went out from under him and he crashed to the ground. According to reports, Cowell broke his left arm and badly bruised his cheek, but is “absolutely fine”, and now recovering at home. This isn’t the first time Cowell has been hospitalized following an accident on an electric bicycle. In August 2020, he broke his back and required surgery after testing out his bike at his home in Malibu, California.

★ A Republican New Mexico legislator wants movie actors and other film-set professionals to undergo state-sponsored gun-safety training. In October, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot by Alec Baldwin with a weapon that he says he believed was loaded with dummy ammo. On Monday, a bill was introduced by Sen. Cliff Pirtle that would require all acting and film production personnel where firearms are present to complete a safety course offered by the New Mexico Game and Fish Department that is designed primarily for hunters.

★ Shia LaBeouf and his on-again, off-again partner Mia Goth are expecting their first child together. It’s long been rumored they were starting a family — amid photos of the 28-year-old’s growing belly — but People magazine says it has confirmation. Goth is an English actress and model. In recent years she’s had roles in the sci-fi film “High Life” and the remake of “Suspiria”.
★ Burt Reynolds’ 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am has sold for almost a half-million dollars. The classic muscle car went up at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale 2022 auction, and with the final bid of $495,000, the 8-cylinder beast has found a new home. Reynolds drove the same type of car in the hit film, “Smokey and the Bandit,” and while this isn’t the car that appeared on screen, it was a congratulatory gift for his work on the flick, which was the second-highest-grossing film of the year. To make it even more special, not only is it the only ’77 Trans Am that Reynolds ever owned, he also signed the glovebox.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: Pat Benatar and Judas Priest are among the 17 acts nominated for induction this year. Also up for consideration are: Devo, Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, Eurythmics, New York Dolls, Dionne Warwick, Fela Kuti and MC5, plus first-time nominees Beck, Duran Duran, Eminem, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon and A Tribe Called Quest. Fan voting is open through Ap. 29, with the top 5 making up the “fans’ ballot” which will then be counted among voters from the music industry. The class of 2022 will be announced in May.
• Kanye West – has no immediate plans to sell NFTs (non-fungible tokens). Numerous celebs, including Snoop Dogg, Justin Bieber, and Paris Hilton, have endorsed the craze of selling unique digital assets. Kanye quote: “My focus is on building real products in the real world: real food, real clothes, real shelter. Do not ask me to do a (***bleep***) NFT. Ask me later.”
• Ed Sheeran – Noel Gallagher isn’t a big fan of his music, but says he’s a “good lad”. In an interview, the former Oasis guitarist said he once contacted Sheeran for the annual Teenage Cancer Trust concert. Quote: “He said, ‘I can’t do it because I’m going to Australia … but I’ll do it next year’…he actually called me back a year later and said, ‘Right, this gig, let’s do it.’ He’s a good lad, but his music… nah.”
• Weezer — frontman Rivers Cuomo has created a new streaming platform to host thousands of the band’s demos, cleverly named “Weezify.” The material ranges from Cuomo’s decades-old solo work to Weezer demos as recent as 2017’s ‘Pacific Daydream’. Sunday, he tweeted: “Tired of Spotify? Come on over to Weezify.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/kjwjky6k
• Aerosmith – Their European tour, which was originally planned for 2020, then pushed back to 2021 and then 2022, has been canceled altogether, due to continued uncertainty around COVID-19. The band did, however, tease that it “hopes to have some exciting news to announce soon.” Aerosmith’s only 2022 date – Sept. 8 at Boston’s Fenway Park – is still officially on.
• Mickey Guyton — will perform the national anthem at the 2022 Super Bowl, Feb. 13 at SoFi Stadium in LA. She tweeted the announcement, writing amid several emojis of clapping hands: “I am shook, I am grateful, I am praise dancing…” In a full-circle moment, Guyton was inspired to become a country star when she saw LeAnn Rimes perform the National Anthem at a Texas Rangers game.
• Florida Georgia Line — Brian Kelley has announced his first-ever solo tour. The “Made by the Water Tour” starts in Kelley’s home state of Florida in Daytona Beach on April 21, with stops in South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisiana, before wrapping on May 19 in Little Rock AR. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.
• CMT Music Awards — The 2022 CMTs have an official date. The show’s CBS debut will now air live on Monday, April 11 from Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium, with additional footage from multiple locations around Music City. The CMTs were originally scheduled for April 3, but due to COVID, the Grammys, set for January, were moved, bumping the CMT Awards from its original air date.

SHOOTING THE BULL

SCIENTISTS SAY:
☞ Your plastic water bottle could be widening your waistline. In a new study, Norwegian researchers found that chemicals in common plastic products like water bottles or food packaging may put you at risk of piling on the pounds. Plastic packaging is widely used for food because it’s cheap and can increase shelf life. But plastic contains thousands of chemicals, and the researchers say some can get into your body and affect your metabolism and, therefore, your weight. The scientists, at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, identified 629 of the chemicals, including 11 known to interfere with human metabolism. Those chemicals reprogrammed certain cells to become fat cells, which multiplied more, and accumulated more fat. (You know what this means, right? It’s OK to go back for as many refills as you like, as long as you use the same cup!)
☞ Your health can be positively impacted by the amount of education your partner has, according to a new study. Previous studies have shown that more formal education can contribute to better overall health, but a team of researchers from Indiana University says this is the first study to find that a great education is beneficial to a partner as well. They determined that the effect of a spouse’s level of education on health is positive and relatively large. The trend was found to be particularly apparent among women. (Mom WAS right – marry a doctor…not only will you be healthier, but if you do get sick, hey, there’s a doctor in the house!)

SCOOP! THERE IT IS:
Baskin-Robbins is introducing a new decadent ice cream flavor to celebrate Valentine’s Day. “Secret Admirer” features pink cake flavored ice cream, swirled with a rose ice cream, and sealed with a sweet strawberry ribbon. And that’s not all there is to look forward to for lovers of ice cream and well…love for Valentine’s Day:
• Baskin-Robbins has brought back the fan-favorite “Box of Chocolates Cake” for Feb. Inspired by classic, heart-shaped candy boxes, it allows customers to select their favorite ice cream and cake flavors, which are then topped with fudge and milk chocolate candies.
• Dairy Queen brought back its limited-edition Red Velvet Cake Blizzard and Cupid Cake for the month.
• Stone Cold Stone Creamery has revealed 2 new flavors: ‘You Had Me at Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries’ (chocolate-dipped strawberry ice cream laced with strawberries, brownies, and red velvet cake) and ‘All’s Fair in Love & Cake’ (chocolate-dipped strawberry ice cream wrapped in strawberry frosting and fudge ganache.)
(Finally! I can say I’ve had a secret admirer!)
(I know. My wife already sent me the link!)

LIVING UNDERCOVER:
Yes, affordable housing is getting harder and harder to find, but would you pay rent for a tent…on a balcony? If so, I know a place. A resourceful tenant in the Swiss city of Zurich decided to subsidize her own monthly rent by subletting the balcony of her apartment. She’s offering the use of a 2-person tent on an open, almost-ground level balcony, with “a view of the starry evening sky” for just 500 Swiss francs (US $540) a month. The waterproof tent comes complete with an insulating mat, mattress and pillows, and access to the apartment’s kitchen, living room and bathroom. Believe it or not, the woman, known only as Sandra, has already had a good response to the ad she posted last month, particularly among students. As for whether the offer is legal, well, the short answer is “no”.
(…for all tents and purposes…!)
(If they get weather like we had last night, I’m pretty sure I’d be bunking out in that living room that I have access to!)

THINGS THAT ARE TECHNICALLY TRUE BUT SOUND WEIRD WHEN SAID OUT LOUD:
➢ “Writing a diary is considered ‘sane’ and ‘respectable,’ but talking to yourself out loud is considered ‘bizarre.'”
➢ “Screaming ‘YOLO’ (‘You only live once’) would make more sense if you were doing something really safe, rather than something really dangerous.”
➢ “A lifetime warranty really means the company’s lifetime, not yours.”
➢ “’Bruce Wayne’ probably helps more people by being a billionaire philanthropist than he does by being ‘Batman’.”
➢ “The years seem to pass by more quickly as you get older because each passing year represents a smaller slice of your overall life than the previous one.”
➢ “Tan lines make being nude look nuder.”
➢ “Moonlight is still sunlight.”
➢”Crushed ice is really just ground water.”
➢ “If you don’t smoke pot because you’re afraid it’ll make you paranoid, you’re experiencing the side effect without even smoking.”

DID YOU KNOW?
The Pillow Fighting Championship crowned its first ever champions Saturday night in Florida, as the children’s pastime was turned into a professional combat sport. The pay-per-view event saw 16 men and 8 women, most experienced in MMA or boxing, but this time competing using a specialized pillow, advance through a bracket style competition. On the women’s side it was Brazilian Istela Nunes who emerged as champion, and the men’s final saw American Hauley Tillman defeat countryman Marcus Brimage. Each winner earned a title belt and $5,000. (Feather-weight champs?)

TODAY’S SCOOP OF BS:
➠ Yesterday was Groundhog Day. (Truthfully, though…I don’t get my weather from a celebrity groundhog. I use that OTHER adorable weather predictor: Al Roker.)

➠ Chick-fil-A is again selling heart-shaped boxes of chicken nuggets for Valentine’s Day. (The perfect gift for that person who’ll never talk to you again…)
➠ Did you know. . . The hormone that makes you grow is only produced when you sleep. (And THAT explains why my step-son is 11-feet tall!)
➠ Fact of the Day:  Falling in love has similar neurological effects as cocaine. (Except it’s WAY MORE expensive.)
