Bullseye!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

★ Kanye West‘s X account has been deactivated after the controversial rapper spent several days posting racist and antisemitic comments, from declaring “I’m a Nazi” to calling Hitler “so fresh.” West’s posts were widely condemned by anti-hate organizations, and celebrities such as David Schwimmer called on X owner Elon Musk to remove the rapper from the social media platform. Musk wrote: “Given what he has posted, his account is now classified as NSFW. You should not be seeing that anymore.” West’s profile page now reads: “This account doesn’t exist.” In addition to racist remarks, West also spent the last several days on X defending Sean “Diddy” Combs and bragging that he had “dominion” over his wife, Bianca Censori.

★ Prince Andrew is set for a hefty payday. The disgraced Duke of York has reportedly signed a deal with a Dutch business firm that will pay him millions in exchange for his connections from the Pitch@Palace initiative. Andrew’s deal with Startupbootcamp marks the first known work he’s undertaken since stepping down as a working royal family member in 2020. The Sun reports that cash-strapped Andrew will receive a cut for each deal Startupbootcamp makes across global territories. No word from Buckingham Palace.

★ Rob Lowe has come off his latest role with an immense respect for firefighters and first responders – and he’d do it again. After “9-1-1: Lone Star” ended its 5-season run last week, the 6-time Golden Globe nominee said he wouldn’t rule out reprising the character of ‘Captain Owen Strand’ in an upcoming spin-off, or on “9-1-1: Los Angeles”, currently in its 8th season. Lowe said to People: “I never say never to anything, and it’s a character that means a lot to me.” Lowe stressed his respect and admiration for first responders, saying “It’s an honor whenever I can bring their stories to the screen, so you never know.”

★ Denzel Washington has revealed that he bit his tongue “almost half-off” a few months ago. In a podcast interview with the New York Times, Washington said: “It’s affecting my speech. It forces me to slow down.” While the “Gladiator II” star didn’t share more about the injury, he admitted it has affected his upcoming role in the Broadway revival of “Othello.” Quote: “It’s hard because my tongue is swollen. It has affected everything.” Washington, who was baptized and became a licensed minister in December — tied the incident to his faith, saying it showed him why he should “pray every day.”

★ Jonny Fairplay has some sad news: His grandmother has died, for real this time. The “Survivor” alum lied about his grandmother dying in a notorious, pivotal moment on the Pearl Islands season of the show in 2003, attempting to score sympathy from his fellow players. Now, he says the news of his grandma’s death is true. He told EW: “It’s easy to think she was just part of one of the biggest lies in TV history, which made me famous, but I look at her place in my life as a loving grandparent who only wanted the best for me.” Fairplay’s grandma, Hean Hauser died on Feb. 7 in Myrtle Beach SC. She seemingly embraced her Survivor notoriety, as she had a custom license plate that read “DEAD GMA.”

SHOOTING THE BULL

MAKING GRAY STAY AWAY:
Scientists say they have found what could be a cure for gray hair – and it’s all-natural. Researchers in Japan have identified luteolin, an antioxidant found in vegetables, as being a potential anti-graying agent. They were conducting an experiment where they focused on 3 different antioxidants, to assess their anti-graying effects in mice that were bred to go gray similar to the way humans do. They say the effect of luteolin was “startling”. The mice that received the stuff retained their black fur, even as their cage mates’ fur turned gray, regardless of whether the luteolin was given externally or internally. So, where can you get some? It is found in celery, broccoli, carrots, onions, and peppers. It is also available as a supplement for topical and oral use, making it a candidate for further development as an anti-graying treatment.
(So, you’re telling me my hair is turning gray because I skipped the broccoli? Well played, veggies, well played!)
(I’m very happy for those of you who still have enough hair to worry about it going gray…!)

EGG-STREME EGGS:
Science to the rescue, again. Researchers in Italy say that following extensive experimentation, they’ve “cracked” the code on how to boil the perfect egg. So, it turns out that the perfect boiled egg consists of a velvety and creamy yolk with a soft, solid egg white that isn’t too watery. How do you get there? Well, first off, you have to be patient – it’s going to take a grand total of 32 minutes. After boiling 300 eggs, and comparing the methods of hard-boiling, soft-boiling, and the sous vide version that fancy restaurants use, as well as a completely new technique called “periodic cooking”, they found that eggs cooked using the periodic technique had a sweeter and saltier yolk than a soft-boiled egg, and the yolk was about the same as a sous vide egg but with less soft and wet whites. So, what is periodic cooking? It involves switching an egg 8 times each between a pan of boiling water and a bowl of cold water. After 32 minutes, the egg is cooled under running water and peeled. The scientists say this method resulted in the egg white being heated to an optimal temperature of 85°C (185F), with the yolk at an almost perfect temperature of 65°C (149F).
(Great. Now, you can start your eggs at breakfast, and enjoy them at lunch!)
(I don’t know much about cooking the perfect egg, but I do know this: It’s just not gonna happen until they come back down to the perfect price!)

VALENTIME:
This year, Americans will spend, on average, $181 per person on candy, cards, flowers and other gifts for friends, loved ones, classmates and even coworkers for Valentine’s Day, according to a WalletHub report. That’s down slightly from last year’s $185 average. The top Valentine’s Day gifts people plan to give were, in order, candy, flowers, greeting cards, an evening out, and jewelry. The survey found that men will spend about twice as much money on their significant other as women will. If you’re a guy, though, you might be wise to count your blessings. Thanks to financial pressures, 34% said they don’t expect their sweetheart to spend ANY money on gifts this year.
(Turns out, love DOES cost a thing… about $181, apparently…)
(34% don’t expect gifts? That’s a fancy way of saying “Netflix and chill… without the chocolates”!)

BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME:
According to a poll of adults in the US…
1. “Forrest Gump (1994): 17% named this Tom Hanks movie it as the best.
2. “The Wizard of Oz” (1939): 15%
3. “Titanic” (1997): 15%
4. “The Lion King” (1994): 15%
5. “Dirty Dancing” (1987): 15%
Other fun facts from the poll:
• People reported that they have watched their fav movie an average of 38 times. Millennials and Gen Z? About 50 times.
• Despite premiering before they were born, the “Jurassic Park” movies were was found to be the most popular series among Gen Z (16%).
• The most popular movie series overall were, in order, “John Wick”, “Home Alone”, Fast & Furious”, “Star Wars”, and “The Godfather”.
• By generation, “Toy Story” was most favorite movie among Gen Z, “The Lion King” was #1 for Millennials, Gen X loved “Forrest Gump” the most, and for Boomers, “Dirty Dancing” is the top cinematic masterpiece of all time.
(As far as I’m concerned, there’s NO WAY someone could make a movie that’s I’d even consider watching 50 times. OK, there’s “Rocky 4”, but that’s it!)

DID YOU KNOW?
According to a new study, clogged roads lead to clogged arteries. As reported in the Journal of Urban Economics, traffic jams cause motorists to turn off the freeway and into fast food drive-thrus. In Los Angeles County, surprise gridlock causing a delay of 31 seconds per mile on drivers’ weekday commutes resulted in a 1% jump in visits to fast food restaurants. That means roughly 1.2 million extra visits to drive-thrus annually. One of the study’s authors explained that for many, their commute is when they are “making decisions around dinner.” Unexpected slow-downs were also linked to a “slight decrease” in grocery stores visits, demonstrating how traffic delays often drive people toward quick and easy takeout meals. (Not wrong. And sometimes, I even pick up something for the rest of my family!)
