BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Alyssa Milano is still considering a run for congress. She first confirmed in June that she was looking at mounting a campaign in 2024 for California’s very red fourth congressional district seat. In an interview Thursday night at GLAAD and the NFL’s “Night of Pride” event, Milano said: “My thought is, even if I’m not winning, which I don’t think I can, I can collect data for the next candidate. It’s all about progress, which is what progressives are all about.” She said she hopes that at some point, the district can turn, and she can “help contribute to that.”

★ Comedy power couple Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally will host the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards. And being that they ARE comic actors, their statement didn’t disappoint. It said: “We hope to get a little rowdy, but it’ll mainly be legitimate cinematic discourse. Although, with the two of us involved, it’s more likely to be intercourse. Either way it’ll be legit.” The 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards will take place on March 6 in Santa Monica, and will air on IFC and stream on AMC+.

★ Grab the Tissues! “This Is Us” has officially set a finale date. Showrunner Dan Fogelman and the cast shared the news that the series finale will air on May 24. According to star Vilo Ventimiglia, the last episode is “truly, truly going to deliver”. Sharing brief details about what to expect in the rest of season 6, Fogelman said the show will be spending more time in the Pearson family’s future.

★ Dana Carvey recently opened up about his alleged feud with Mike Myers. He told Howard Stern that the 2 have “come full circle and we’ve become very, very close friends.” Things started to improve for the 2 when they reprised their roles as ‘Wayne’ and ‘Garth’ in last year’s Super Bowl ad. Carvey said they had “so much shared history together riding the rocket of ‘Wayne’s World”, but later grew apart, and Carvey felt his role was that of a sidekick. Their differences were magnified when Myers’ based his ‘Dr. Evil’ character in “Austin Powers” on Carvey’s impression of “SNL” producer Lorne Michaels.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Diplo — has announced his new self-titled album and shared its first single, ‘Don’t Forget My Love’, featuring Miguel. The forthcoming LP, out March 4, is said to be “the first proper Diplo album since [2004’s] ‘Florida’”. It will also feature Jungle, Busta Rhymes and Lil Yachty. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2tnsd4s4
• Adele – promises that her Las Vegas residency will “absolutely, 100 percent” take place in 2022, after the shows were postponed at the last minute in January. Friday on “The Graham Norton Show”, she broke down the reasons the shows couldn’t go as scheduled, including COVID-19 cases among her team and delays in deliveries for the show.
• Justin Bieber — Rapper Kodak Black was among 4 people shot and injured early Saturday morning at an L.A. venue hosting a celeb-filled afterparty for a Bieber concert. Multiple shots were fired outside The Nice Guy restaurant during a fight. The victims are reported to be in stable condition.
• John Mayer – is using the death of his close friend Bob Saget as inspiration. He told Andy Cohen he’s writing a song that he calls his “little collection plate” of thoughts about Saget. Quote: “I put it in the plate and keep working on the song…This song that I have is very much this connected tissue I have to him, and I just keep working on it.”
• Elton John – His “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour will bypass Canada next month. An update on his website cites “COVID-19 restrictions” for the cancellation of 4 appearances in Montreal and Toronto. Measures in Ontario and Quebec limit venues to 50% of seating capacity. Both provinces are set to lift their limits March 14.
• Rush — has announced several expanded editions of their landmark 1981 “Moving Pictures” album. It will be available in 6 configurations, out April 15. The heftiest package is the Super Deluxe Edition, including 3 CDs, one Blu-ray audio disc and 4 vinyl LPs, featuring a 2015 remix of the album and a live show from Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens on March 25, 1981, titled “Live in YYZ 1981”.
• Aerosmith — April 8, the group will release “Aerosmith – 1971: The Road Starts Hear” a rare and previously unheard rehearsal from 1971. It was made available as a limited-edition cassette and vinyl release for Record Store Day 2021, and quickly sold out. Recorded on a reel-to-reel, it features early versions of 7 songs, including ‘Dream On’, ‘Walkin’ the Dog’ and ‘Mama Kin’.
• Chris Young – is “blown away” by the fact that he’s the most-nominated artist for the Academy of Country Music Awards on March 7. In a thank-you vid on Instagram, he said: “I’ve never been the most nominated at any awards show ever in my career.” With 7 noms this time, maybe he’ll win his first ACM Award. After all, as he puts it: “Seven is my lucky number.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p954sf3
• Luke Bryan — wants Lionel Richie and Katy Perry to join him on stage in Vegas. He kicked off his residency at Resorts World on Friday, and with both Richie and Perry in the midst of their own runs of shows there, he has put out the invite for his “American Idol” co-stars to come sing with him.
• Dolly Parton – says she’ll make a “great rock album” if she is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She’s among this year’s nominees, and says she has intended to make a rock-style record “for years”, and envisions it sounding “like a Linda Ronstadt or Heart kind of thing.” (Call us crazy, but shouldn’t an artist make a “great rock album” BEFORE they’re nominated for the Hall of Fame?)
SHOOTING THE BULL
BIG BING BIND IN BEIJING:
The official mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, a playful panda wearing an icy shell, named Bing Dwen Dwen, was a crowd favorite – until it started talking. Since the opening ceremony, Bing Dwen Dwen toys, stickers, key chains, porcelain and other trinkets have flown off store shelves, and the mascot’s likeness has gone viral on social media. Factories have even had to ramp up manufacturing to meet demand. But the mascot’s popularity may have now taken a hit, as fans took to the internet to express their shock after Bing Dwen Dwen spoke with a deep masculine voice on a program aired last week by state broadcaster CCTV. One commenter wrote: “Bing Dwen Dwen started talking. I was so disillusioned”. Another called the voice “disgusting” and said they couldn’t finish watching. CCTV pulled the program from its website on Wednesday, and some users even pointed out that Olympic mascots aren’t allowed to talk under Olympic guidelines, in order to maintain a gender-neutral status.
(“When it started talking, I was so disillusioned.” That sounds like my last meeting with the Program Director!)
(Just look pretty and don’t say anything.” Man! I know how THAT feels!)

LADIES, HERE’S YOUR ‘QUEUE’ TO GO:
A couple of women in the UK have raised £250,000 (US $339,000) in funding for the country’s first female urinal. University of Bristol graduates Amber Probyn, and Hazel McShane say they came up with “flatpack portable urinals” called the “Peequal” to help deal with the long lines they’ve experienced when trying to use the loo at music festivals. They say the Peequal is made of recycled sea plastics, produces 98% less carbon than traditional portable toilets, and is 6 times faster. How do they work? Well, without getting TOO graphic, the urinals have no doors and have been described as “semi-private”, with users obscured from the waist down. They’re designed to be either stood or squatted over, with a boat-like shape to minimise splash back and a space to hang clothes. They agree that at first, women may feel uncomfortable about using them, but say they’ll eventually come around. There are currently 250 Peequals under construction, with more deals with festival operators expected in the coming weeks.
(I’ve been to a festival in the UK. Let’s just say I don’t think the ladies there will have a problem with it!)
(Do you really wanna “go” there?)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ An Illinois woman held hostage in her home was rescued after her daughter noticed she hadn’t sent her Wordle score and alerted authorities. 80-year-old Denyse Holt told a reporter that a naked man entered her Chicago-area home, dragged her around the house, disconnected phone lines, and eventually barricaded her into a bathroom, where she stayed for about 17 hours. Police went to check after receiving a call from her concerned daughter who hadn’t heard from her. Her daughter became concerned because her mother was not reading her texts and had not sent her usual Wordle updates. (Smart daughter. I probably would have called I.T.!)
➢ In 2017, Meir Kalmanson started an awesome Super Bowl tradition. He invited a group of men he had met on the sidewalks of New York watch the big game with him in the comfort of a VIP area of a Manhattan bar. Video from that first “Super Soul Party” helped turn the event into a nationwide chain of more than 35 annual celebrations for people in homeless shelters. Invitees are treated to great food, a warm place to rest and lively company for the game, PLUS, in recent years, the nationwide volunteers who help bring “Super Soul” parties alive have branched out to include things like haircuts, free clothing and hygiene kits, and even mental health and financial resources for the guests.

DID YOU KNOW?
A Yemen man broke his own Guinness World Record by managing to stack 4 eggs atop one another without toppling. Mohammed Muqbel, who first set the record when he stacked 3 eggs, beat his own record in Istanbul, Turkey, where he managed to stack 4 eggs in a tower. According to him, the hardest part is “finding the center of gravity for each egg due to its unique shape and texture.” (Nice work, but when it comes to setting records with breakfast, I’ll stick to stacking pancakes!) TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Valentine’s Day”, the most widely celebrated unofficial holiday. A few fun facts …
➠ The Catholic Church recognizes at least 3 different saints named Valentine, all of whom were martyred, one for performing secret weddings for young lovers.
➠ Pope Gelasius declared February 14th “St Valentine’s Day” around 498 AD, in part to replace the ancient Roman fertility festival “Lupercalia”.
➠ It may come as no surprise that Valentine’s Day ranks #1 in terms of the most flowers sold and delivered.
➠ Almost half of all marriage proposals occur on Valentine’s Day.
• “Call In Single Day”, when those not celebrating Valentine’s are encouraged to take a day off work and set aside some time for themselves. Similarly, it’s “International Quirky Alone Day”, a reminder to value yourself, develop individuality, and celebrate the possibilities available to single people.
• “Donor Day”, encouraging us to fill out an organ & tissue donation card and to donate blood. You could save a life! How appropriate that it’s on the day when we give hearts.
• “Have-A-Heart Day”, when vegetarians encourage you to quit eating animals. (So go kill a carrot today!)
• “Ferris Wheel Day”, celebrating the 1860 birth of George Washington Gale Ferris, the Galesburg IL engineer who invented the ‘Ferris wheel’ for the 1893 “Chicago World’s Exposition”. The original wheel measured 250 feet in diameter and could hold 1,440 people.
• “Library Lovers Day”, an annual salute to the people who like to book it.
• “Pet Theft Awareness Day”, promoting awareness of the need for pet protection in public places. (***Here’s how to protect your pooch from being pilfered: https://tinyurl.com/2p9xeuaa ***)
• “Oatmeal Monday”, a holiday that was traditionally celebrated at Scottish universities. From the 1600s through the late 1800s, students there were required to bring their own food and fuel to campuses, such as oatmeal and firewood.
• “Football Hangover Day”, it’s estimated nearly 14 million people call into work “sick” the day after the big game. For this reason, many feel the day after the Super Bowl should be declared a holiday. (Or, maybe have the Super Bowl on a Saturday?) [***See ‘BS Phone Starters’, below***]
