★ Former “One Tree Hill” actor Chad Michael Murray says he had no idea who Sam Phillips was when he signed on to play the man who discovered Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Murray plays the influential DJ-turned-record label boss in the new TV series “Sun Records”, and says he’s now a big fan of his character after researching his life and career. The CMT series premieres this Thursday.

It was reported last week they’d been placed in the care of California’s Department of Children & Family Services after Lisa claimed to have found indecent photos and videos of children on her estranged husband Michael Lockwood’s computer. • “Hacksaw Ridge” ( R-Rated War Drama ): Directed by Mel Gibson, who hasn’t helmed a film since “Apocalypto” (2006). This is the true-life saga about a conscientious objector who serves as a medic and saves 75 lives in the Battle of Okinawa during WW2. Andrew Garfield stars as real-life US Medal of Honor winner Desmond T Doss.
• “Manchester By the Sea” ( R-Rated Drama ): The latest from writer/director Kenneth Lonergan is about a solitary Boston janitor (Casey Affleck) whose life is transformed when he returns to his hometown to take care of his teenage nephew. Co-stars Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams, Kyle Chandler, Gretchen Mol. The film has 6 Oscar nominations, including ‘Best Picture’.
• “Nocturnal Animals” ( R-Rated Drama) – A film by designer-turned-moviemaker Tom Ford that
is a story inside a story, in which the first part follows a wealthy art gallery owner (Amy Adams), who receives a book manuscript from her ex-husband (Jake Gyllenhaal), a man she left 20 years earlier. The second part follows the actual manuscript itself, called “Nocturnal Animals”.
• Also being released: “Blood On the Mountain” (Documentary); “Grace & Frankie: Season 2” (Netflix); “The Level” (TV); “Seasons” (Documentary) and “Ultimate Beastmaster” (Netflix).

MUSIC IS THE DRUG:
Scientists are developing a deeper understanding of what’s going on in our brains when sex, drugs, and rock & roll make us high. Neuroscientists at Montréal’s McGill University have
run experiments with music that reliably produces intense feelings, including Radiohead’s “Creep”, Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb”, and Mozart’s “Overture: The Marriage of Figaro”. It’s been found that music uses the same reward pathways in the brain as food, drugs, and sexual pleasure. Turns out even sad songs can be pleasurable, releasing the same chemical (prolactin) that mothers produce during breastfeeding. It’s previously known from animal studies that the same areas of the brain affected by opioids are affected by food and sex, but not much was known about music’s effect because (most) animals don’t enjoy music. A new puppy is a lot of work. Scottish beer-maker BrewDog understands the challenges new puppy parents are under, so the company is now offering ‘paw-ternity leave’. On top of inviting its employees to bring their dogs to work, BrewDog is now giving its workers a 1-week paid leave to care for a new canine companion. A company rep says: “Having dogs in our offices makes everyone else more chilled and relaxed, but we know only too well that having a new arrival can be stressful for human and hound both.” Don’t worry, the company also offers ‘enhanced maternity and paternity pay’ for 2-legged arrivals. (What if your pet has a litter of 6? Month-and-a-half off?)

HOW TO PREVENT ‘DOORING’:
Urban cyclists encounter many dangers, one of the worst being ‘dooring’ – the collision that results when the driver of a parked car opens the car door into an oncoming pedaler’s path. To prevent these accidents, drivers in The Netherlands rely on a simple practice that’s been dubbed ‘The Dutch Reach’. After parking, drivers reach for their car door’s handle using their right arm instead of their left, even though the latter is closer to the door. This method forces drivers to pivot their bodies so they look over their shoulders, allowing them to notice oncoming cyclists on the street. Dutch children learn this habit from teachers and parents, and it’s even included on driving tests. (Such a simple solution to a major danger.)
