Bully For You!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★  Director Kevin Smith is recovering after suffering a “massive heart attack” on Sunday night. The 47 year-old “Clerks” director tweeted a photo of himself early Monday morning, dressed in what appeared to be a hospital gown with tubes attached to him. He captioned the pic, “After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka ‘the Widow-Maker’).”  Smith was scheduled to perform 2 standup shows in Glendale, CA.  but as he pointed out, “If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!”

★ As increasing numbers of women come forward to share their stories of sexual harassment, Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman is the latest to recount an incident involving a male producer that she says left her “scared.” Portman explained that, “I went from thinking, ‘I don’t have a story’ to ‘Oh, wait, I have 100 stories. And I think a lot of people are having these reckonings with themselves, of things that we just took for granted as like, this is part of the process.” She did not name the producer.

★ Michelle Obama’s memoir is coming out in November. The former first lady tweeted that the book is called ‘Becoming’. She calls her memoir a “deeply personal experience.” She and her husband, former President Barack Obama, reached a joint agreement with Penguin Random House last year for their respective books. The deal is believed to be worth well in excess of $30 million.
(Maybe it should be called ‘Becoming Filthy Rich’!)

★ It seems that Meghan Markle fancies herself as a writer. Not only did she have a lifestyle blog called ‘The Tig’, it has been revealed that she was also reportedly the author behind a racy anonymous blog called ‘The Working Actress’. Markle apparently authored the blog about an aspiring actress dealing with the tribulations of Hollywood, which was active between 2010 and 2013.

★ Lisa Marie Presley has been slammed by her estranged husband Michael Lockwood, who claims she is lying about her huge debts. Earlier this month, the daughter of Elvis Presley revealed she owes unpaid taxes from 2012 to 2015, totaling more than $10 million. Presley is locked in a bitter divorce battle with Lockwood, and he filed a counter-claim on Friday, disputing his estranged wife’s money woes.

★ One day after Kim Kardashian West took to Snapchat to post a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at her famous clan on the “Celebrity Family Feud” set, revealing that there will be a Kardashian-Jenners vs. the Wests showdown on the game show, TMZ reported that the face-off was originally supposed to be between the KarJenners and the Hiltons.  Apparently producers were thrown into a mad scramble when  they were contacted 4 days before Saturday’s taping and informed the Hiltons weren’t playing.

• Kylie Minogue – would love to record a duet with Lady GaGa. She says that anytime she has done a duet, she hasn’t asked, they have “just kind of come” to her, and although she doesn’t do many duets with women, she says that, “I would love to sing with [Lady] Gaga or something like that, it would be incredible.”

Tabloids are reporting that she is still pretty self-conscious about the scar from a cut sustained in a nasty fall at home late last year. INTENSE IN TENTS:
If you’ve got triskaidekaphobia, this event is not for you. On Friday, April 13, some fans of the horror movie “Friday the 13th” will get a chance to stay overnight at the New Jersey camp where the original film in the slasher series was shot. The VIP package at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Hardwick, New Jersey, which is usually a Boy Scout camp, is available via auction. The bidding deadline is today no pun intended). The original “Friday the 13th” film, featuring the hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees, was released in 1980, and of course about 11 sequels came after that. In addition to the overnight stay, Crystal Lake Tours is holding a lottery for tours of the camp that will be held April 13 and 14. Ticket prices range from $135 to $175. Adrienne King, who played the lone survivor in the movie, will make an appearance. No word about Jason.
(Um…ideally he won’t!)
(My idea of a horror-movie campsite is one without wi-fi!)
(It seemed like such a nice campground…in the daytime…)

OCTO-ALIENS:
Dr. Seth Shostak of the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute claims in a recent article written for science magazine ‘The Nautilus’ that by the year 2035, humans will have made contact with alien life forms. And what form might those extra-terrestrials take? Kaku interviewed experts in exobiology, a field that studies what life might be like in distant worlds with different ecosystems, and determined that intelligent alien life would have three necessary features:
1. Like humans, they would have stereo vision (two, or multiples of two eyes), which allows them to compare images and to track distance.
2. Opposable thumbs or grasping appendages, necessary for hunting prey and creating tools.
3. They would also need to have language. In order to hand down and accumulate essential information from generation to generation, some form of language is crucial.
He says an intelligent alien race may very well exist entirely underwater. And he points out that the one Earth-bound underwater animal that nearly fits all the above criteria — stereo vision, graspable appendages — is the octopus. And he says octopi could very well develop a language themselves some time in the future. Gulp.
(And then they’ll tell us that the plural form is ‘octopuses’!)
(Not exactly how I pictured them…)
(I guess the movie ‘Arrival’ pretty much nailed it!)

HEALTH BENEFITS OF THINGS YOU THOUGHT DID NOTHING FOR YOU:
➠ Calling Mom: Researchers found that levels of oxytocin—the “happy hormone” linked to emotional bonding—increase in people who have physical or telephone contact with their Mothers. They also found that levels of the stress hormone cortisol decreased. (And hey, it does the same for Mom!)
➠ Slowing Down When You Run: Paying attention to pace is what separates successful runners from the others. If you run slower, you can run longer, and burn more calories. (No problemo. I generally slow down after about 10 steps. Drastically.)
➠ Eating More Food: Eating small, healthy snacks throughout the day—in addition to your regular balanced meals—will keep your stomach full and stop you from binging on whatever you can get your hands on at 4 p.m. But keep those snacks healthy…think peanut butter, cheese and yogurt. (I’ll have a peanut butter, cheese and yogurt pizza, please…)
➠ NOT Getting Eight Hours of Sleep: A study found that those who sleep more than eight hours a day—including naps—were 15 percent more likely to have metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a group of risk factors, linked to obesity, which increases your chance of having heart disease, diabetes and stroke. (That might be true, but I’m not willing to risk it…)
➠ Putting on Ear Buds: A study found that musical training, or any interaction with music—including listening—improved the brain’s ability to handle communication. Children with musical training have better-than-average vocabulary and reading ability. Musical adults had more “neuroplasticity,” aiding their brains’ long-term ability to adapt and change. (Plus you can’t hear the neighbors yelling!)
➠ Having Separate Interests From Your Partner: Couples who are attached at the hip could be putting themselves at higher risk of cardiovascular problems. Researchers found that people who felt they had to share most activities with their partner were strongly associated with higher risk of stroke, high blood pressure, ulcers and heart attack. (Especially if their partner liked to skydive!)
➠ Drink Water: It has been found to increase energy levels. Yes, in spite of the fact that it has no calories, plain old water has been found to increase sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity. That activates the body’s responses under stress, raising blood pressure, energy use and alertness. (I know it does when you jump in a cold pool!)
