BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

★ Judges Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong walked off in protest after Rudy Giuliani was revealed as a contestant on “The Masked Singer”. They left the stage after the former New York city mayor and Donald Trump adviser was unmasked during the taping of season 7’s first episode last week, but eventually returned to the taping. Fellow judges Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger reportedly remained on stage after the reveal, where they briefly chatted with him. Giuliani, who was praised as “America’s Mayor” for his handling of 9/11, has become a highly polarizing figure for defending Donald Trump’s claims that the 2020 US presidential election was stolen from him.

★ From the frozen lands “Beyond the Wall” to the destroyed “Throne Room,” a new “Game of Thrones” Studio Tour takes fans behind the scenes of the hit TV series. Located in Banbridge, Northern Ireland, one of several locations where the show was filmed, the attraction opens up the world of Westeros to the public with an array of costumes, props, and sets on display. Items include Jon Snow’s sword “Longclaw” and the dress his sister Sansa wore for her wedding to Joffrey. The 110,000-square foot attraction features sets including the Great Hall at Winterfell, King’s Landing, and Dragonstone. The Game of Thrones Studio Tour officially opens today.

★ Lily James and Sebastian Stan didn’t see each other “out of character” on the set of “Pam & Tommy”. The pair – who play “Baywatch” actress and Playboy model Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee in the new Hulu drama – have admitted they didn’t really speak to each other as themselves while working on the series, which follows the theft of the couple’s sex tape from the safe in their basement of their Malibu home in 1995. James and Stan explained to Jimmy Kimmel how “terrified” they were to play the former flames, and revealed some of the ways they got into character, including sporting temporary tattoos, bleached eyebrows and changing their voices.

NOSE NEWS:
⇒ A South Korean company has come up with a mask that can be folded up to cover only the nose while you eat. In an effort to get around the inconvenience of removing a mask to eat, the Atman company designed the “kosk”, combining the word “mask” and “ko,” the Korean word for nose. It can be used folded up when eating just to cover the nose, then unfolded to cover both the nose and mouth after eating. Up until now, the word “kosk” has usually been used to refer to people who don’t properly wear a mask over their nose. Kosks are available online for $8 for a box of 10. (And before you point out the fact that COVID-19 can be spread through the mouth, believe me, online commenters already have!)
⇒ A new app called “Smart Snout” uses nose prints to help “sniff out” lost and stolen dogs. The pattern of a dog’s nose, which, much like a human fingerprint, is unique, is paired with the shape of the nostrils to identify pets through the app. A photo of a dog’s nose can be uploaded to its database with a smartphone. And if you happen to find a dog, you can scan its nose through the app, and its owner will receive an alert that their pet has been located, and can then communicate with you. Owners can also list their dog’s status to “Missing.” (Ironically, I, too, am often identified by my nose…)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A bartender who was robbed at gunpoint has filed a lawsuit against his former employer, who he says forced him to pay back the thousands of dollars that were stolen. Edward Parker was working at The Lodge in Summerlin, near Las Vegas, in Dec. 2020, when an armed man entered, demanding money. Video shows Parker, with his hands in the air, handing over cash from the register. Hours after handing over $3,900, Parker claims management at The Lodge told him he had to pay the establishment back. What’s more, after paying the money back in the summer of 2021, Parker says he was fired after taking a pre-approved vacation. (Sheeesh! Did they also charge him interest?)
➢ A former Swiss banking CEO, who is on trial for fraud, says the nearly $280,000 he spent making it rain at strip clubs was a “business expense”. Pierin Vincenz, who used to head Raiffeisen Switzerland, also claimed in court that he spent $760 on dinner with a woman he met on Tinder because he was thinking of hiring her for a real estate job. It is also alleged that Vincenz and a stripper were charged $4,500 by a hotel for damages to a room after a “massive fight.” Vincenz is one of 7 top bankers and associates on trial in Zurich for alleged enrichment, fraud and mismanagement. (Sounds crooked, but if you want to run for office someday, you have to start somewhere!)

DID YOU KNOW?

The Winter Olympics (starting today) typically move from one chilly destination to another every 4 years. But a new study says the games could be forced to be held at the same place every time – due to climate change. Scientists at the University of Waterloo say it will be increasingly difficult to find suitable locations for the Winter Olympics as global warming advances. If greenhouse gas emissions continue at their current levels, only 1 of the 21 prior Winter Olympics host cities would be a suitable location for future Winter Olympic games by the end of the century. But the researchers believe that if nations reach their Paris Climate Agreement emissions targets, there will be 8 climate-reliable host cities within that same time frame.

Most recently, the construction industry began using hemp in place of concrete (known as hempcrete) because it is windproof and offers a lower carbon footprint.
• “Liberace Day”, honoring the flamboyant pianist and entertainer. “Mr. Showmanship” is perhaps as well-known for his persona as his musical talent. From the 1950s to the 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world. Today is the anniversary of his 1987 death at age 67.
• “Bubblegum Day”, when those who donate 50 cents or more get to chew gum in school, with proceeds going to any charity the school chooses. Some creative teachers even incorporate bubble gum into their lessons for the day! (Just keep those bubbles away from the screen, remote learners!)

SATURDAY-
• “Weather Forecasters Day”, commemorating the 1746 birth of Boston physician Dr. John Jeffries, one of the first to keep detailed records of weather conditions.

• “Chocolate Fondue Day”, the word “fondue” is derived from the French word “fondre,” which means ‘to melt’. Traditional dippers include fresh fruits such as bananas, strawberries, and tangerines; small pieces of cookie or cake; and miscellaneous goodies like marshmallows and pretzels.
• “Disaster Day”, strangely enough, despite all the things that could potentially have gone wrong, there weren’t any major disasters today. (Although that’s now up for discussion, having seen what [***co-host***] chose to wear….)

SUNDAY-
• “Frozen Yogurt Day”, honoring the alternative to ice cream that has (slightly) less sugar. And the best fro-yo topping is …? (Maple Syrup?)
• “Ronald Reagan Day”, a day of recognition in California since 2011 for Ronald Reagan, who was the state’s governor from 1967-75 and President of the US from 1981-89. (We hear he did a little acting on the side as well…)
• “Lame Duck Day”, a “Lame Duck” is a person who is in a position of some kind, and will soon be “shown the door”. The best example is a politician who is temporarily still in power after losing an election (whether they’d care to admit it or not…)
• “Waitangi Day” in New Zealand (aka “New Zealand Day”), commemorating the signing of an 1840 treaty between Maori chiefs and the British.
• “Pay-A-Compliment Day”, a time to practice this simple act of kindness and compliment a friend, co-worker or stranger. Here are a few helpers –

➠ The average person listens to approximately 25 songs per day, according to a report. (I listen to 25 songs, but they all sound like the SAME ONE, thanks to you, Timberlake!!)
➠ Today marks the 18 years since the founding of Facebook. (And coincidentally, 18 years is roughly the amount of my life I’ve wasted on Facebook since I joined…)
➠ G.I. Joe debuted this week back in 1964. (I remember tearing that thing open right there on the floor of the store! The cash register lady stared me down while I said: “Lemme guess, you want me to leave because I’m loud?” She said, “No…I want you to leave because you’re 46!”)
➠ The NFL Pro Bowl is this Sunday. (Ah, yes…the game that every player wants to be selected to, but doesn’t actually want to play!)
➠ Apparently, more and more porn stars are using Twitter these days. (Good! Because if there’s one thing we love about porn stars, it’s their clever, witty banter…)

BS WEB GOODIE:
There are possibly better ways to spend your time:  https://tinyurl.com/y6e5u88f

BS WATER COOLER QUESTION:

Answer:  A butterfly

BS DEEP THOUGHT:
