Don’t Take Any Sheet, Unless It’s Pure Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Fox-TV has officially sold out all of its advertising inventory for Super Bowl LVII, with peak prices surpassing $7 million for a 30-second spot. Sunday’s game in Arizona between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will cap a year of stellar ratings for the NFL during the regular season and the playoffs. Fox had indicated even before the start of the season that it had already had takers for 95% of Super Bowl spots, an unusually fast start for the sales process, even for the most-watched TV broadcast of the year.

★ Showrunner Craig Mazin says there’s potentially more than 2 seasons worth of story in the “Last of Us” saga. After rave reviews and strong viewership for its initial episodes, HBO’s live-action television adaptation of the video game has scored a renewal for a second season. But while fans of the video games might assume Season 2 would adapt “The Last of Us: Part II” and that would be the end of the story, according to Mazin, the part 2 story is so big, it could extend beyond one season. He points out, however, that he and others involved are “pretty committed to not making The Last of Us an open-ended, ongoing drama” that goes on seemingly forever. (“Walking Dead”, anyone?)

★ Arnold Schwarzenegger was involved in a traffic accident in Los Angeles on Sunday morning. Police say a woman on a bicycle swerved into the lane where Schwarzenegger was driving, and his vehicle “made contact” with the woman’s bike. First responders arrived, and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital. Schwarzenegger stayed at the scene to talk with police officers. Police believe Schwarzenegger is not at fault. In January, 2022, Schwarzenegger was involved in a more serious multi-car crash in Brentwood, which resulted in injuries to a woman.

★ Jeremy Renner has shared an update for fans. The “Avengers” star revealed that his upcoming Disney+ series “Rennervations” is still in the works following his snow plow accident last month. On Instagram, he uploaded the first official image from the show, writing: “As soon as I’m back on my feet, we are coming to YOU , all across the globe… I hope you’re ready !!!” The show is described as a “4-part series that embraces Jeremy Renner’s lifelong passion to give back…by reimagining unique purpose-built vehicles to meet a community’s needs.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mpjpxvu

★Mark Hamill is autographing “Star Wars” merch for the first time in 6 years — for an exceptional cause. In a new interview, the ‘Luke Skywalker’ actor revealed he’s autographing some limited-edition Star Wars posters that will be put up for sale, with the money raised going toward Ukraine’s “Army of Drones” project. As he pointed out, he’s making the posters available to “real hardcore collectors — especially those that have disposable income” because that way, “you can get way more money… than you would imagine.” No official details yet on how they will be sold.

★ Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are both getting into superhero shape for “Deadpool 3”, and it’s safe to say there’s some friendly competition between them. On Friday, Reynolds shared a photo on Instagram Story showing him working on his bulging biceps by curling 60-lb. dumbbells. In the caption, he wrote: “I’m not training for Deadpool. I’m training to spend several months with @thehughjackman — who’s not as nice as everyone thinks.” Jackman fired back, reposting the photo and adding a “Ur cute” heart-shaped sticker.

BS MUSIC NOTES:

You know me, when it’s my time to come out and pop out, I’m gonna come out and pop out.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p85w3rm
• Oasis – Amid reunion rumors, last week, 50-year-old Liam Gallagher underwent a joint replacement in his hip due to arthritis as a result of a longstanding thyroid problem. • Scotty McCreery – His 3-month-old son made his on-stage debut during McCreery’s show last Thursday in Knoxville TN. SHOOTING THE BULL

ARE THE TIMES A-CHANGIN’?
A study suggests that putting our clocks ahead to daylight saving, and leaving them there, could help fight climate change. The findings, published in Environmental Research Letters, show how researchers simulated the heating and cooling demands of office buildings for 15 US cities, and analyzed the impact that daylight saving could have until the year 2050. They determined that under current climate conditions, daylight saving time reduces cooling demand by 5.9%, but increased heating demand by 4.4%. But as the environment warms, they found that daylight saving time could reduce cooling demand by up to 5.4%, while increasing heating demand by 3.2%. In both cases daylight saving results in a net decrease in energy used. They say that moving our clocks forward permanently by one hour could be a tool to help reduce carbon emissions and adapt to the climate crisis.
(OK, but who’s going to help us adapt to going to work in the dark…at 9 o’clock in the morning?!?!)
(Could happen. But I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it!)

THE BANK OF MOM & POP:
When you find yourself with too much month left at the end of your money, do you ask mom and dad to help? Apparently, a lot of us do. In a poll, more than 3 in 10 (35%) adults admit their parents help with at least one bill. The survey of 2,000 Americans found that the top 3 expenses that parents help their grown-up kids with are rent (19%), groceries (19%) and utilities (16%). The good news for mom and dad is that 70% of those respondents plan to take on these bills themselves within the next 2 years. On the other hand, 30% admit they’ll just keep on accepting their parents’ financial aid until they’re told otherwise. Half said they struggle to limit unnecessary spending. They also face difficulty budgeting for unexpected expenses (45%) and remembering to pay bills on time (40%).
(Uh, they can set reminders on every one of their 18 different digital devices, and they still can’t find a way to remember to pay their bills?)
(I feel this. Just last week, my kid asked for help with his car payment. I said: “I’d love to be able to help you but your grandparents are away”!)

ANIMAL TAILS:
❑ Last month, we heard about the zoo that is offering you the chance to name a cockroach after your ex for Valentines Day. Not to be outdone, The Animal Friends and Humane Society in Hamilton OH is offering people the chance to buy cat litter boxes and name them after an ex-partner. The shelter wrote on Facebook: “Do you have a crappy ex? … For a $5 donation we will write your ex’s name in a litterbox and give it to the cats, to let them do what they do best!” (Purr-fect!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/56z9mert
❑ A German dog trainer has set the world record for most dogs in a conga line. Guinness says Wolfgang Lauenburger’s 14 canines arranged themselves into the dance formation with his help back in August. The record was certified last week. Because we believe in giving credit where it is due, the record-breaking conga dogs are Bibi, Cathy, Charly, Elvis, Emma, Filou, Fin, Jennifer, Katie, Maya, Simon, Speck, Susy, and Ulf. Lauenburger has set multiple world records, including most skips by a dog on hind legs in 30 seconds and most rollovers by a dog in one minute. (Well, actually, his dogs did…) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3uuscehj

FOOD MYTHBUSTING:
➠ Chewing gum stays in your stomach for 7 years if you swallow it:  Gum actually moves through the digestive tract just like anything else we consume. The difference? It doesn’t get broken down and digested – it just stays a gummy wad the whole way. (Thanks for the mental picture!)
➠ Eating turkey causes drowsiness:  Scientists have discredited this idea, because tryptophan can only cause drowsiness if it’s consumed alone. Turkey also contains several other amino acids. Chances are, the sleepiness you feel after a turkey dinner is a result of the fact you’ve eaten a large, carbohydrate-rich meal. (And the wine…and hearing Grandpa’s long, rambling stories…again…)
➠ Celery is a “negative-calorie” food:  Science has proven that there are no foods that take more energy to eat and digest than they provide. Oh, and chewing and digesting celery only burns a half-calorie anyway. (Plus there’s all that peanut butter I put on there…!)
➠ Eating raw cookie dough is a health hazard:  While it’s true that it could contain Salmonella bacteria, odds are that you won’t get sick, and those who do generally recover without treatment. (So you’ve got better chances of living if you eat raw dough than my finished cookies!)
➠ You have to wash chicken before cooking it:  Rather than making it safer to eat, it actually increases the risk of foodborne illness. Water droplets containing salmonella can rain down all over a sink area and potentially spread bacteria.
➠ Froot Loops are all different flavors:  Nope. It turns out the colors are simply decorative, with no connection whatsoever to the flavor of each piece. They all taste the same. (Oh! Just like the entire McDonald’s menu!)
➠ Chocolate causes acne:  Studies show that chocolate alone doesn’t increase a person’s risk for developing acne. Some factors that do include nutrition, diet, hormones, hygiene, and genetics. (Also, going on a first date. What? Just me?)
➠ Coffee stunts children’s growth:  There is no scientific evidence coffee affects a person’s height in any way. (It’s the cigarette that they have with it…!)
➠ Milk makes your bones stronger:  Although calcium does strengthen bone, studies have revealed that milk-drinkers do not reduce their risk for fractures. (Also, apples do not keep doctors away!)
➠ A watermelon (or any fruit) will grow in your stomach if you eat its seeds:  Oh, just shut up!

DID YOU KNOW?
In many Chinese cities, there is a service called “Jam Busting” that allows drivers who are caught in traffic and need to get somewhere quickly to be picked up right away. Two people arrive; one to quickly get you through traffic on a motorcycle, and the other drops off your car at your arranged location. (This happens a lot in Philadelphia too, but usually it’s involuntary!)
