Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Get ready, because the Stallones are going all “Kardashian” on us. Paramount+ has announced “The Family Stallone,” which will follow Sylvester Stallone, wife Jennifer Flavin Stallone and daughters Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet. The show’s synopsis says: “While he’s the man, the myth and the legend to the world, Stallone is simply known as “Dad” to his daughters. While he headlines box office smash hits, at home he is focused on building for the future and raising 3 independent and ambitious women. The series will also explore Jennifer’s entrepreneurship…she is the co-owner of the wellness brand Serious Skin Care.” The 8-part reality series will debut on the streaming service this spring. ★ “The Daily Show” correspondent Roy Wood Jr. is about to step onto an even bigger political stage. The White House Correspondents’ Association has announced that the comedian will be the headlining entertainer for its 2023 dinner, set to be held at the Washington Hilton on April 29. Wood Jr. said in a statement: “It will be a great night that will go down in the history books, or not, depending on which state you live in.”

★ Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck planned to renovate her Bel-Air home after getting married, but they’ve pulled the plug on that plan, and now she’s selling — with the prospect of an eye-popping profit. J Lo has just listed her home for $42.5 million. Here’s the kicker: She bought the place in 2016 from Sela Ward – for $28 million. The estate is almost 8 acres, a huge property for the area. The main house is more than 12,000 square feet, with 9 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms. Ben and Jen have been looking for a home for well over a year, and are reportedly currently staying in a rental.

★ ‘Dr. Frasier Crane’ is taking his talents back to Boston. Paramount+ unveiled new details about the upcoming “Frasier” revival starring Kelsey Grammer as production began this week. In the new series, Frasier returns to Boston (where “Cheers” was set) to face new challenges, start new relationships and try to fulfill his old dreams. Grammer is the only original cast member in the main cast for the new series. Jack Cutmore-Scott plays Frasier’s now-adult son ‘Freddy’ while Nicholas Lyndhurst plays Frasier’s old college friend ‘Alan’. Anders Keith plays Frasier’s nephew ‘David’, the son of ‘Niles’ (David Hyde Pierce) and ‘Daphne’ (Jane Leeves).
-PopCulture
★ Gisele Bundchen has sent a message of support to Tom Brady after he announced his retirement. The 42-year-old model was quick to send well-wishes after her ex-husband shared a video on his Instagram account announcing he was quitting the NFL “for good”, almost a year after he declared he was hanging up his boots only to later change his mind. Bundchen, who divorced Brady in October after 13 years of marriage, commented on the video: “Wishing you only wonderful things in this new chapter of your life. [praying hands emoji]”
-Bang
★ Call it the “Sex Files”? Gillian Anderson is inviting people to write letters detailing their wildest sexual fantasies for her new book on the female sexual experience. “The Crown” star wrote in an op-ed for “The Guardian”: “I want women across the world…to write to me and tell me what you think about when you think about sex. Whether it’s when you’re having it by yourself or with a partner, or with more than one. Tell me.” The “Sex Education” star plans to document the sex lives of women around the globe to help shed light on “women’s sexuality and what it means to be a woman today.”

PRESCRIPTION TO PARTY?
I definitely hope you have something to celebrate this weekend – because according to new research, it’s good for your health. A paper published in the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing says that in order for your celebration to bring health benefits, it requires these 3 components: 1) gathering with other people; 2) having food and drink; and 3) highlighting an important milestone. The peer-reviewed publication says that celebrations reinforce our social support and provide reassurance to us that we have a social network for when adversity strikes. The lead author said they found that “Buying yourself a congratulatory gift to celebrate an accomplishment just isn’t the same as celebrating with a dinner and drinks with friends.” And the celebrations don’t need to be extravagant to be beneficial. It just needs to mark the occasion with food or drink and the company of others.
(If you ever celebrated a birthday with the guys I grew up with, you’d know there are absolutely NO HEALTH BENEFITS involved whatsoever…!)
(And that’s why, dear, that I had to spend our 10th anniversary at the bowling alley!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A man in Singapore is suing a woman who refused to date him — claiming she caused him “emotional trauma” by telling him she wanted to be “just friends”. The man — identified as K. Kawshigan — threatened to sue Nora Tan when she rejected him, but put the lawsuit on hold after she agreed to attend counseling sessions with him, which she did for a year and a half. But she continued to reject his romantic advances and eventually cut contact with him, so he filed 2 lawsuits. One is asking for $2.3 million for allegedly causing “damage to his stellar reputation” and “trauma, depression and impacts” to his life. The second asks for $16,700 in damages for breaching an agreement to improve their relationship after she stopped attending counseling sessions. (I think the correct baseball analogy for this guy is: “He reached negative first base”!)
➢ A pet fish did some online shopping and shared its owner’s credit card info — while playing a video game. Japanese YouTuber Mutekimaru, aka Maurice, runs a channel that features his Siamese fighting fish, or betta, playing Pokémon video games on a Nintendo Switch gaming console. A malfunction during a recent game, however, returned the device to its home screen. Due to movements the fish made, it opened the Nintendo eShop on the screen and spent $4 of Maurice’s money to purchase points. It also managed to expose its owner’s credit card information on a livestream. And he didn’t stop there. The fish went on to somehow download an app, spend reward money on a new avatar AND ask PayPal for a confirmation email. Then, just for the heck of it, it also managed to change Maurice’s account name from “Mutekimaru” to “ROWAWAWAWA.” (And me? I can’t figure out how to pay for parking with a debit card!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A Canadian study has found that smoking weed is more harmful than smoking tobacco. Researchers from University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital evaluated chest scans of marijuana smokers, non-smokers and tobacco-only smokers over age 50. They determined that 75% of cannabis smokers had emphysema — compared to 67% of heavy tobacco smokers and just 5% of non-smokers. The scientists say that “may be due to the…fact that marijuana smoke enters the lungs unfiltered.” (Gummy, anyone?)

BS CHRONOMETER 02.03.23

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Halfway point of Winter”, In the Northern Hemisphere, today is the exact halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. Many think the midpoint of winter is always Groundhog Day, but it varies. Winter is the shortest of the 4 seasons, lasting 88.99 days.
• “Carrot Cake Day”, saluting an idea hatched in the Middle Ages. At that time, sugar and other sweeteners were rare and very expensive, so people used sweet vegetables for flavor.
• “Bubblegum Day”, when those who donate 50 cents or more get to chew gum in school, with proceeds going to charity. Some creative teachers even incorporate bubble gum into their lessons today!
• “National Missing Persons Day” in America. Every day in the US, approximately 2,300 people are reported missing. We’re encouraged to be alert, share the names and pics of those who have gone missing, and help bring them home to their families.
• “American Painters Day”, Although this day honors all American painters, there is a special emphasis on Norman Rockwell, who was born in New York on this date in 1894. He is best-known for the covers he created for “The Saturday Evening Post”, beginning in 1916.
• “Doggy Date Night”, Scientists have consistently found that dogs provide social, physical and emotional benefits for their owners . . . and vice-versa! Today, spend a little extra time with your dog: play games like fetch or frisbee, or go on a nice long hike with the friend who is always there for you – your dog.
• “Winterlude”, the annual celebration of the season in Canada’s capital region of Ottawa-Gatineau. Back in-person this year for its 45th edition, ending Feb. 20, the national celebration includes fun activities such as the live ice-carving championships, light art, the Snowflake Kingdom, Indigenous Experiences, the Aurora Festive Winter Experience…and beaver tails! SATURDAY-
• “Rosa Parks Day”, an American observance honoring the Black civil rights activist, known for refusing to give up her seat on a bus. It’s a legal observance in California today, and in Ohio on December 1.
• “Thank a Letter Carrier Day”, your chance to say thanks to the person who delivers your junk mail.
• “USO Day”, honoring the 1941 creation of the United Service Organization, which continues to provide support for American troops and their families worldwide.
• “World Cancer Day”, to encourage prevention, detection, and treatment. It’s led by the International Union Against Cancer, a consortium of more than 280 cancer-fighting organizations in over 90 countries.
• “Ice Cream for Breakfast Day”, invented on a snowy winter day in the 1960s by Florence Rappaport in Rochester NY. To entertain her 6 kids on a day when her city experienced several feet of snow, shutting down schools, she decided…well, you know…
• “Homemade Soup Day”, a day to chop and blend and simmer, creating yummy goodness in a bowl all on your own. AllRecipes.com has over 1,000 recipes for homemade soup.
• “National Hemp Day”, it has been an essential material in the innovation of several industries including shipping, construction, and textiles. Most recently, the construction industry began using hemp in place of concrete (known as hempcrete) because it is windproof and offers a lower carbon footprint.
• “Liberace Day”, honoring the flamboyant pianist and entertainer. “Mr. Showmanship” is perhaps as well-known for his persona as his musical talent. From the 1950s to the 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world. Today is the anniversary of his 1987 death at age 67.

SUNDAY-
• “Weather Forecasters Day”, commemorating the 1746 birth of Boston physician Dr. John Jeffries, one of the first to keep detailed records of weather conditions.
• “Dump Your Significant Jerk Day”, when you’re encouraged to terminate your jerk relationship before Valentine’s Day, thereby saving the money and awkwardness involved in faking romance.
• “Western Monarch Day”, celebrating the stunning orange & black migratory butterfly. The eastern North American monarch population is notable for its annual migration from the northern and central United States and southern Canada to Florida and Mexico. Western monarchs have been known to winter in California and Mexico.
• “Shower With a Friend Day”, Got your attention? New Wave Enviro of Denver, which sells water filters, reusable water bottles, and sustainable lunch containers, came up with this celebration as a marketing gimmick to sell shower filters during the “coldest and loneliest season of the year”.
• “World Nutella Day”, the annual celebration of the chocolate-y hazelnut spread that’s best eaten right out of the jar … by the handful. (***NOTE: ‘Nutella’ is pronounced “New-TELL-uh”, according to the company’s FAQ page***) LINK: http://www.nutelladay.com
• “Chocolate Fondue Day”, the word “fondue” is derived from the French word “fondre,” which means ‘to melt’. Traditional dippers include fresh fruits such as bananas, strawberries, and tangerines; small pieces of cookie or cake; and miscellaneous goodies like marshmallows and pretzels. (I just use a straw!)
• “Disaster Day”, strangely enough, despite all the things that could potentially have gone wrong, there weren’t any major disasters today. (Although that’s now up for discussion, having seen what [***co-host***] chose to wear….)
